Tournament of POWA Round 1 Results From Sunday, February 24th to Wednesday, March 13th 2019 the POWA Club held six polls to make up the first Round of the Tournament of POWA (https://powaclub.com/powa-hall-of-fame/). 120 anime series watched by the club ​ ​ were split into groups of four and matched up against one , eventually ending with 30 series to go into Round 2. The first part of this document analyses the results of the round. Winners will be bolded throughout. For the complete final results of the polls, go to page 4.

Facts and Analysis Which series continued to the next round? Round 1-1: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Anohana, Overlord, and ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Mushishi. ​ Round 1-2: Welcome to the N.H.K., Full Metal Panic!, Steins;, and ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ReLIFE. ​ Round 1-3: The Devil Is a Part-Timer!, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a ​ ​ ​ ​ Dungeon?, Durarara!!, Baccano! and Is This a Zombie? ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Round 1-4: Interviews with Monster Girls, The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and ​ ​ ​ ​ Hostel Behavior, Toradora!, Everything Becomes : The Perfect Insider and The Pet ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Girl of Sakurasou. ​ Round 1-5: KonoSuba, Haven't You Heard? Were there any ties? Yes, three pairs of series in Round 1-3 (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a ​ Dungeon? and , Gurren Lagaan and Durarara!!, ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ and Baccano!) earned the same votes and thus were forced to go into a tie breaker ​ ​ poll.

Which series received the highest percentage of votes? The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, which received 68.2% of the votes for its question in ​ Round 1-4 (Wolf’s Rain vs Bokurano vs Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple vs The Pet ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Girl of Sakurasou). ​

Which series that continued to the next round received the lowest percentage of votes? The World God Only Knows, which received 26.9% of the votes for its question in ​ Round 1-6 (The World God Only Knows vs Rental Magica vs Kamen no Maid Guy ​ ​ ​ vs Dennou Coil). ​ ​

Dimension W, which received 37.5% of the votes for its question in Round 1-5 ​ (Psycho-Pass vs Dimension W vs Toriko vs Utawarerumono). It was beaten by ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Psycho-Pass, which received 54.2% of the votes. ​

Which question received the most “abstain” votes? The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior vs vs ​ ​ ​ vs My Bride is a Mermaid in Round 1-4, which had 27.3% “abstain” votes. ​ ​ ​

Which question received the least “abstain” votes? Three questions received no “abstain” votes at all: ● Tales of the Abyss vs Penguindrum vs Toradora! Vs Slayers in Round 1-4. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ● Space Battleship Yamato 2199 vs Clannad vs Canaan vs Gate in Round 1-6. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ● Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches vs Fate/Zero vs vs ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in Round 1-6. ​

Were there any series that continued to the next round that were dropped from the club? Yes. Full Metal Panic! (dropped in 2009), Toradora! (dropped in 2010) and Fullmetal ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Alchemist: Brotherhood (dropped in 2010). ​

What series that continued to the next round did POWA watch most recently? The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, which finished screening at POWA on 16/12/2018. ​

What series that continued to the next round did POWA watch the longest ago? Spice and Wolf, which finished screening at POWA in 2008. ​

2 What series that continued to the next round is the newest? Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, which finished its original airing on 06/04/2017. ​

What series that continued to the next round is the oldest? Full Metal Panic!, which finished its original (first season) airing on 18/06/2002. ​

What is the most common airing year for series that continued to the next round? 2016, which had five winners (91 Days, ReLIFE, KonoSuba, Haven't You Heard I'm ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Sakamoto? and Erased). ​ ​ ​ This is followed closely by 2012, which had four (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, The Pet ​ ​ ​ Girl of Sakurasou, Psycho-Pass and Kokoro Connect). ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 2015 and 2011 had three. 2017, 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2007 had two. 2014, 2013, 2006, 2005 and 2002 had one.

What series that continued to the next round has the highest My Anime List score (as of Thursday, March 14th 2019)? Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood which has a MAL score of 9.24. Steins;Gate ​ ​ follows closely with a score of 9.13.

What series that continued to the next round has the lowest My Anime List score (as of Thursday, March 14th 2019)? Everything Becomes F: The Perfect Insider which has a MAL score of 7.31. ​ Psycho-Pass 2 (the second season of Psycho-Pass) follows closely with a score of ​ ​ ​ 7.52.

What is the average (mean) My Anime List score of all the series that continued to the next round (as of Thursday, March 14th 2019)? The average MAL score of all the series comes out to 8.18.
