    aus: Hugo Kastner: SNOOKER – Spieler, Regeln & Rekorde Update: Juli 2012 Geschichte der „Major“ Ranking- & Einladungsturniere Erst nach der Weltmeisterschaft 1976 entschied man sich dafür, auch im Snooker eine Weltrangliste zu erstellen, zunächst allerdings nur auf die World Championships der Jahre 1974 bis 1976 Bezug nehmend. Die erste Rangliste sah folgendermaßen aus: 1. Ray Reardon – 2. Alex Higgins – 3. Eddie Charlton – 4. Fred Davis – 5. Graham Miles – 6. Rex Williams – 7. Perrie Mans – 8. John Spencer – 9. Dennis Taylor – 10. Gary Owen – 11. John Dunning – 12. Jim Meadowcroft – 13. Cliff Thorburn – 14. Bill Werbeniuk – 15. John Pulman – 16. David Taylor. Bis zur Saison 1981/82, als das Jameson International (später Scottish Open) und das Professional Players Tournament (später Grand Prix) dazukamen, gab es keine Änderungen am System. 1984 folgte das Lada Classic (später Mercantile Classic), in dem Steve Davis zwei Jahre zuvor das erste Maximum Break bei den Professionals gelungen war. Im Jahr darauf kamen die ungemein prestigeträchtigen Turniere UK Championship und British Open dazu, wobei gleichzeitig große Änderungen im Punktesystem erfolgten. Ab der Saison 1988/89 ergänzten mit dem nur einmal als Ranking-Event ausgetragenen Canadian Masters sowie den European Open (heute Malta Cup) bzw. German Open weitere Ranking- Veranstaltungen den Kalender. 1990 öffnete die WPBSA den Markt in Asien mit Turnieren in Dubai, in Thailand, dem Asian Open (heute China Open) und dem Hong Kong Open. 1992 wurde zum einzigen Mal das Strachan Open als Ranglistenturnier gespielt. Alle diese Veranstaltungen wechselten jedoch mehr oder weniger oft den Schauplatz. Über die weiteren zahlreichen Ranking- und Invitational Events der folgenden zwei Jahrzehnte gibt die unten folgende tabellarische Aufstellung ein gutes Bild.

    Snooker aus Wikipedia, der freien Enzyklopädie Wechseln zu: Navigation, Suche Ronnie O’Sullivan Snooker ist eine Variante des Präzisionssports Billard, welche mit speziellen Queues auf einem 12-Fuß-Billardtisch mit sechs Taschen gespielt wird. Das Spielprinzip besteht darin, 15 rote und sechs andersfarbige Bälle („die Farben“) mit dem weißen Spielball nach bestimmten Regeln in die Taschen zu versenken. Der Name Snooker bezieht sich auf eine „Snooker“ genannte Spielsituation, in welcher ein Spieler einen Ball, den er laut Regeln anspielen müsste, nicht auf direktem Wege in vollem Umfang anspielen kann und so zu einer schwierigeren Lösung gezwungen ist (er wurde gesnookert). Das Wort snooker hat aus dieser Bedeutung heraus auch im übertragenen Sinne Eingang in die englische Sprache gefunden (to snooker somebody: „jemanden sperren, behindern“). Snooker hat verglichen mit anderen populären Formen des Billard einen höheren technischen Schwierigkeitsgrad und stellt größere Anforderungen an die spieltaktischen Fähigkeiten der Spieler. Die höhere technische Schwierigkeit ergibt sich hauptsächlich aus der im Vergleich zu vielen anderen Billardvarianten größeren Fläche des Spieltisches, aus dem kleineren Durchmesser der Kugeln und daraus, dass die Taschen weiter in die Banden eingezogen und enger sind als etwa beim Poolbillard. Das abwechselnde Anspielen von roten und nichtroten Bällen und das angestrebte Spiel auf den höchstwertigen (schwarzen) Ball erfordert darüber hinaus ein hohes Maß an Kontrolle über den weißen Spielball. Snooker gilt als „gentlemen’s sport“, da beim Snooker noch etwas mehr als bei anderen Billardvarianten auf Stil, Contenance und die Einhaltung der Etikette Wert gelegt wird. Bei den meisten großen Turnieren ist zudem förmliche Kleidung mit Hemd, Weste und Fliege vorgeschrieben (dresscode).

Und selten genug gelingt es sogar den absoluten Superstars in professionellen Snookerwettkämpfen ein „147“ zu schaffen. Der Grund liegt nicht allein in der Schwierigkeit, 36 perfekte Stöße in Serie zu machen, sondern auch in der Spannung, die bei den heute üblichen Kurzserien auf jedem Frame liegt. Sicherheitsspiel und der Wechsel von Angriff zu Verteidigung, wenn nicht mit hohem Prozentsatz ein Potten zu erwarten ist, lassen die „147“ zu einer Rarität werden, auch bei den heute hochkarätigsten Turnieren. Glück gehört auch noch dazu, keine Frage, denn bisweilen entscheiden Millimeter über einen exzellenten oder katastrophalen Stoß. Dafür ist der Lohn hoch, der ideelle wie auch der finanzielle. 147.000 Pfund, die viele Jahre für ein Maximum bei der Weltmeisterschaft ausgeschüttet wurden, entsprachen fast dem Siegerscheck für dieses Turnier. Seit der Saison 2011/12 lässt ein Roll-over-System das Preisgeld für ein „147“ von Turnier zu Turnier anwachsen, falls nicht irgendein Spieler durch ein „Max“ den Jackpot knackt. In den TV-Spielen werden 5000 Pfund ausbezahlt (bzw. mitgenommen), in den Qualifikationsphase 500 Pfund, ebenso in der Players Tour Championship.
