Tracing back its roots to Europe’s Founding Fathers - Robert Schuman, Alcide De Garperi, and Konrad Ade- nauer - EPP is committed to a strong Europe, based on a federal model that relies on the principle of subsidiarity. Founded in 1976, the EPP strives for a demo- cratic, transparent and efficient Europe that is close to its citizens. The EPP wants a prosperous Europe through the promotion of a free mar- ket economy with a social consciousness. The EPP is the largest political organisation in Euro- pe with 73 member-parties from 39 countries, 19 heads of state and government (13 EU and 6 non-EU), 13 European Commissioners (inclu- ding the President), and the largest group in the European Parliament with 265 members. The EPP is governed under the 2003 “EU Regu- lation on political parties at European level and the rules regarding their funding“. In late 2007, this Regulation was revised in order to allow all European level political parties to campaign for the European Parliament elections. As a result of this mandate, the EPP conducted – in close cooperation with its national member-parties - its first Europe-wide campaign for the June 2009 elections and reinforced its leading posi- tion in the European Parliament. – THE EUROPEAN PEOPLE’S PARTY – – THE EUROPEAN PEOPLE’S PARTY – 02 03 1 America contributed to the establishment of EPP History the intercontinental network. • The Sustainable Electric Motorsport of the 21St Century
EC8.19 October 4, 2019 To: Chair and Members of the Economic and Community Development Committee: Re: Exploring the potential opportunity of Toronto becoming a host city of Formula E: the sustainable electric motorsport of the 21st century Dear colleagues, I am writing to request that we explore the potential to bring FormulaE to the City of Toronto. Formula E was conceived in 2011 by FIA (International Automobile Federation) President and former Scuderia Ferrari General Manager Jean Todt and Spanish businessman Alejandro Agag as the world's first all-electric international car racing platform. The first race was held in Beijing's Olympic Park in 2014, and has grown into a global entertainment brand with 11 teams and 22 drivers. There are multiple major international corporate sponsors and 9 global automobile manufacturers are engaged; including Jaguar, Nissan, BMW, Audi, DS (Peugeot), and Mahindra. Formula E describes its venue metropolises as being the 'most progressive' cities in the world, and they include New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Seoul, Jakarta, Rome, and Mexico City, among others. Formula E markets itself as a cutting edge catalyst to propel the latest electric vehicle design and research work, as well as improving driving experiences for everyday car users of all classes and types, all while providing incredible entertainment. As the capital city of North America's top auto-producing region with over 2.2 million vehicles assembled in 2017, Toronto has long benefited from the economic activity, employment, and tax revenue generated by the automobile sector. Over 200 companies in southern Ontario are developing autonomous vehicle technology, with our automobile sector employing over 100,000, and generating almost 20% of manufacturing GDP.

Adoption of the draft agenda The agenda was adopted. 2. Adoption of the minutes of 19 March 2013 The minutes were adopted. 3. Announcements by the Chair The Chair made the following points: 1) Conference of Delegation Chairs I would like to report back to Members on the last Conference of Delegation Chairs meeting which was held in Strasbourg last week. It is concerning to note the increasing number of decisions which are being taken by the Secretary General without debate. The most recent is on the availability of interpreters for delegation meetings which have been allocated Thursday afternoons as a viable time. Unfortunately, as we are well aware, most Members need to return to their national constituencies by Thursday afternoons, so this is not a viable option for the delegation. This is a concerning development as it limits the participation of Members and staff who rely on the interpreters services. Ongoing issues remain regarding the budget and travel allowance for delegations, and the fact that this does not adequately take into account multi-country delegations or those with PV\935068EN.doc PE510.439v01-00 EN United in diversity EN countries who cannot easily conduct visits to Brussels. This is possibly something Members could discuss with their Group Presidents, and I will continue to follow up within the Conference of Delegation Chairs.

11/6 Reading Assignment Why is Angela Merkel in a comfortable position compared to Peer Steinbruck? The hypothesized impact of the eurozone debt crisis and, related, Germany's eurozone role. Though Merkel represents the country's ideological right, how might her prescription for economic growth contrast with the right among American candidates for federal office? Who and what experienced the "biggest election victory " since reunification (i.e., of E. and W. Germany into one Germany)? How does the position of "party chairman" in Germany contrast with, for example, the Republican Party Chairman or Democratic Party Chairman in the United States? What is Sigmar Gabriel's job and what is his goal? What is driving the Social Democratic Party into a likely, grand coalition with the Christian Democrats? What drove the Greens and the CDU apart? Where do we see federalism (e.g., Bavaria's role) factoring into the CDU/CSU's willingness to accommodate SDP demands? What demands are those? What are Merkel's "red lines"? The significance (not just defitinition) of gerechtigkeit, particularly in light of the liberalizing labor and welfare reforms enacted a decade ago (ironically [Why "ironically"?] by the SPD-Green government. The impact of Catholic/Lutheran views on the right-of-center CDU/CSU. Can you speculate, based on this, why the FDP was ejected from parliament? How is Merkel thinking about economic inequality in terms of electoral strategy? What is a GINI coefficient? What is the trend in GINI in the east and west of the country? How does public opinion contradict the measured reality of inequality? So, how might this explain the growing fortunes of the Left and Greens at the expense of the Free Democrats? How does Germany compare to other OECD nations based on the varying New Social Maret Economy's (INSM) quality of life indicators? ------------------------------------------------------- The Boston Globe (The Boston Globe) - Clipping Loc.

  • Brussels, 27 March 2017 Dear Mr. Dijsselbloem, Earlier This Week We
Brussels, 27 March 2017 Dear Mr. Dijsselbloem, Earlier this week we have known the statements you have made to a communication media, which we consider unequivocally discriminatory and offensive against several EU countries as well as offensive and sexist towards women. Shortly after the publication of your statements, you had the opportunity to rectify at the European Parliament, but you avoided doing so. On the contrary, instead of apologizing, you have said that the problem is that we do not understand the direct style of speech known to Calvinist culture. In our opinion, Calvinist culture has nothing to do with disdain for other people. This is the reason why we are again asking you - as representatives of European citizens, who have chosen us directly - to reflect and to rectify. Your statements attack one of the most important values that underpin our European Union: equality. In the last six decades, we have all managed together, Mr Dijsselbloem, to materialize a dream that once seemed unthinkable: that Europeans should be equal in opportunities, rights and obligations. The EU is not just rules, meetings and political decisions. What supports all of this, what gives meaning to the EU, are our common values, and equality as the most important one. Therefore, respecting these values should be the first obligation for any European leader, Mr Dijsselbloem. This includes assuming that European citizens, like any human being, are all equally respectable, regardless of our gender and our country of origin or residence. Attacking a certain group of countries as you have done is attacking each one of the EU countries.
