2020 Discover Days for Parents & Families Learn about how we embrace you—our parents and families—as partners! WEDNESDAY, JAN. 8 9 a.m. Residence Hall Move-in Upon arrival, your student will check in to receive their ID, residence hall room key and important information. Instructions for move-in will be sent via email prior to your arrival on campus. 4 p.m. New Student Check-in (New residential students only) Tinkham Veale University Center (D4) New residential students should check in for Discover Days and pick up meal plan information, including a meal card and dining options, name tags and other helpful information. Commuter students can pick up materials Thursday during the breakfast & mingle session. 4 p.m. Parent & Family Welcome Tinkham Veale University Center, Ballroom A (D4) Join staff from student advancement, student affairs and first-year experience and family programs to learn more about your affiliation with Case Western Reserve University. You will learn about sources of support and what to expect from Parent and Family Orientation. THURSDAY, JAN. 9 8:45 a.m. Breakfast & Mingle, Check-in Nord Hall, Room 356 (D5) A light continental breakfast and coffee will be available. 9 a.m. Dean of Students — Student Support & Advocacy at CWRU Strosacker Auditorium (D5) The Dean of Students Office is central to the educational mission of Case Western Reserve University, seeking to retain students and providing them an environment conducive to academic success. In an effort to support the needs of our CWRU students and the campus community, the Dean of Students Office has established case management, Behavioral Intervention Teams (BIT) and CARE Management. This presentation will give a brief overview of these student support services and discuss how students’ family and friends can work with our Dean of Students Office to help support students through life transitions, mental and medical health concerns, and other needs during their time at CWRU. 9:50 a.m. Paying for College Strosacker Auditorium (D5) Representatives from the Offices of University Financial Aid and Student Financial Services will discuss financial aid, student employment, scholarships, loans, payment plans and the student billing system. Staff will review payment due dates and answer questions on both financial aid and the payment process. 10:40 a.m. Campus Services Greatest Hits Strosacker Auditorium (D5) Learn the basics about campus services: meal plans, CaseCash, car-sharing programs and Bookstore Bucks. Information will be provided about the CaseOneCard and its uses, including bookstore and banking functions. We will also provide information about travel, hotel and car rental discounts for parents and families. THURSDAY, JAN. 9 11:30 a.m. Academic Resources Strosacker Auditorium (D5) Join Academic Resources staff members for a discussion about programs and services to help students achieve their academic goals. Learn about Supplemental Instruction (SI); Peer Tutoring; Study Group +1; Spoken English programs and seminars; and one-on-one assistance with time management, study skills, test-taking, note- taking strategies and spoken English. Presenters will also discuss UNIV 100, a popular five-week, non-credit seminar on study skills and time management available to students during both halves of the fall and spring semesters. 12 p.m. Lunch Tomlinson Cafe (D5) or Tinkham Veale University Center, Smith Commons (D4) Join your student for lunch in the Tomlinson Cafe or choose one of the options in Smith Commons in the Tinkham Vealer University Center. Bring your meal voucher. 1:30 p.m. University Health & Counseling Services Tinkham Veale University Center, Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, Room 248 (D4) Find out about the services available to your student through University Health and Counseling Services. You will learn about health and wellness care, medical resources, educational programs, individual and group counseling, and psychiatric services. 2:20 p.m. Safety and Student Conduct Tinkham Veale University Center, Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, Room 248 (D4) It is important for your student to stay safe and make good decisions during their time at Case Western Reserve University. The CWRU Police Department will review safety information, crime prevention tips and safety-related services provided by the campus police and the university, such as transport services and emergency notification. The University Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards will discuss how and why your student may interact with the office, expectations about behavior and the importance of making good decisions. 3:15 p.m. University Welcome Tinkham Veale University Center, Ballroom C (D4) Join all new students and their families for our official university welcome from President Barbara R. Snyder. 4 p.m. Reception and Information Resource Fair Tinkham Veale University Center, Ballroom (D4) The Information Fair is your opportunity to connect with campus resources, ask questions and learn how CWRU students utilize programs and services offered by the university.
