For years we have been conducting one cleanup after another at the Epicenter to remove weeds and improve the appearance of the grounds. It has occurred to me that maybe we are missing an opportunity here. If there is any- one reading this who has a green thumb and would like to design and build a small garden, please let us know. I honestly believe that with a good plan and the promise of sustained care, we can pass the hat and get funds to take care of the expense. So, if there is a frustrated gardener out there in need of a project, please let us know. On another subject, Challenger Middle School was recognized last week as a leading school in the Governor’s Challenge Competi- tion. Challenger was first in the region in total student completions. It was second in student active days and it was fourth in per- cent of student completions. As a ―front runner‖ Challenger received a $1,000 award. Congratulations to the Cheetahs for their hard work! How about those utility boxes!!! I hope that by now everyone has noticed that things are changing for the better in Mira Mesa. Leo Angelo Reyes in concert with the Art Department of Mira Mesa High, led by MMTC Board Member at Large Mike Davis, has been painting utility boxes around the center of the community. Please take a moment to look at this fine work; your comments are most welcome. And while I hope that the comments are all positive, we will accept criticism as well. So far this effort has been funded by private contributions, some from Mike himself. At this month’s MMTC board meeting we will discuss the possibility of MMTC contributions to help defer the cost of supplies. What about our banners? The next time you are stopped at one of the annoyingly uncoordinated traffic signals on Mira Mesa Boulevard look up. You may notice a ―Welcome to Mira Mesa‖ banner. There are a total of 54 banners in 27 locations all along our Main street. While these are currently in use to welcome
