God Damn (Live from London) Two years ago, Avenged Sevenfold took everyone by surprise with The Stage, which showed the band elevating their ambitions and taking on board influences from Queen and Queensrÿche. In the process they came up with a brilliantly explosive and intelligent musical presentation. Now, that album has been expanded, with the addition of seven studio recordings, six of which are covers, plus four live tracks. The live material, which is basically the opening quartet of tracks from The Stage, and Dose, the one previously unreleased studio original, are all worthy additions. But it’s those covers which get the attention. The band give the Rolling Stones’ 50-year-old As Tears Go By a contemporary thrust, Mr Bungle’s Retrovertigo sounds like it was actually composed with this version in mind, and the Del Shannon’s Runaway is spritely. Malagueña Salerosa, meantime, stays true to its Mexican roots. However, the shining moments on this reissue come with a breathtaking march through The Beach Boys’ God Only Knows and Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were, both of which have distinct Avenged affectations yet are respectful of the classics we know so well. Download avenged sevenfold the stage torrent. ----- AVENGED SEVENFOLD ----- Formation and early recordings (1999�2000) Avenged Sevenfold's debut album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, was recorded when the band members were just eighteen years old and in high school. It was originally released on their first label, Good Life Recordings in 2001. After lead guitarist Synyster Gates joined the band, at the end of 1999 when he was 18, the introductory track "To End the Rapture" was re-recorded featuring a full band element. The album was subsequently re-released on Hopeless Records in 2002. The band started to receive recognition, performing with bands such as Mushroomhead and Shadows Fall and playing on the Take Action Tour. After playing Ozzfest in 2006, Avenged Sevenfold memorably beat out R&B Singers Rihanna and Chris Brown, Panic! at the Disco, Angels & Airwaves and James Blunt for the title of Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards, thanks in part to their Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas-inspired song �Bat Country.� On October 26, 2007, Avenged Sevenfold released their self-titled album, the band's fourth studio album. It debuted at No.4 on the Billboard 200 with over 90,000 copies sold. Two singles, "Critical Acclaim" and "Almost Easy" were released prior to the album's debut. In December 2007, an animated video was made for "A Little Piece of Heaven." Due to the song's controversial subject matter, however, Warner Brothers only released it to registered MVI users over the internet. The third single, "Afterlife" and its video was released in January 2008. Their fourth single, "Dear God", was released on June 15, 2008. Although critical reception was generally mixed the self-titled album went on to sell over 500,000 copies and was awarded "Album of the Year" at the Kerrang! Awards. Avenged Sevenfold headlined the 2008 Taste of Chaos tour with Atreyu, Bullet for My Valentine, Blessthefall and Idiot Pilot. They used the footage from their last show in Long Beach for Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough, a two-disc B-sides CD and live DVD which was released on September 16, 2008. They also recorded numerous covers, including Pantera's "Walk", Iron Maiden's "Flash of the Blade" and Black Sabbath's "Paranoid". In January 2009, M. Shadows confirmed that the band was writing the follow-up to their self-titled fourth album within the upcoming months. They also announced that they will be playing at Rock on the Range, from May 16�17, 2009. On April 16, they performed a version of Guns N' Roses' "It's So Easy" onstage with Slash, at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Nightmare (2010�2011) The band members admitted in a number of interviews that they considered disbanding at this point of time. However, on February 17, 2010, Avenged Sevenfold stated that they had entered the studio, along with now-former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, to drum for the record, in place of The Rev. The single "Nightmare" was digitally released on May 18, 2010. A preview for the song was released on May 6, 2010 on Amazon.com, but was removed soon after for unknown reasons. Mixing for the album had been completed in New York City, and Nightmare was finally released worldwide on July 27, 2010. It met with mixed to positive reviews from music critics but was well received by the fans. Nightmare beat sales projections easily, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 with sales of 163,000 units in its first week. After finishing recording, in December, Portnoy and the band posted simultaneous statements on their websites stating that he will not be their replacement for The Rev. However, Portnoy did travel with the band overseas in December 2010 for three shows in Iraq and Kuwait sponsored by the USO. They played for U.S. Soldiers at Camp Adder, Camp Beuhring, and Balad Air Base. On January 20, 2011, Avenged Sevenfold announced via Facebook that former Confide drummer Arin Ilejay will tour with them starting this year. Whether or not he will be joining the band on a permanent basis has not been decided yet. In May 2011, it was confirmed that the band had written a new song to be included in the Escalation DLC pack for the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops. The song is the first time developers Treyarch have commissioned an outside band to contribute a song since the franchise began. The song, titled "Not Ready to Die", was released on iTunes on May 2, 2011. Avenged Sevenfold performed at the Rock am Ring and Rock im Park festivals on June 3�5, 2011 alongside other bands such as Alter Bridge, System of a Down, and In Flames.     Epworth UMC October 2010 Student Ministry News Model healthy priorities and time management Last month, our back-to-school issue addressed stress and anxiety that teenagers face. Stress often results from out-of-whack priorities and poor time management—two areas many adults struggle with also. To gauge the priorities of Christian teenagers, Group Magazine surveyed 20,000 kids who represent a cross-section of youth group members. Although kids listed “praying and developing a relation- ship with God” as their top priority, youth leaders say kids’ actions don’t seem to back that up. “They’re so busy with school, work, sports, and so on—and their parents encourage it—that it seems the first things to get dropped are the items listed as priorities,” said a Pennsylvania youth leader. Kids’ crazy schedules get a lot of blame for their stress and upside-down priorities. But now some research says hyper-busyness isn’t necessarily a bad thing—as long as teenagers’ goals and activities are clear and harmonious. Psychology professor Robert Emmons found that health and quality of life suffer when young people have what he calls “conflicting strivings.” Teenagers whose activities revolve like spokes around a “hub” (such as faith in Christ) are likely to thrive. Emmons’ team discovered that kids who pursue many strivings that are all connected somehow to their spiritual commitments generally have less conflict among them. Because their day-to-day goals center around their faith in God, these young people experience more harmony in their life, less stress, and less illness. This issue of “The Parent Link” explores ways you can help kids—and yourself—keep priorities in line and wisely use God’s gift of time.

Publicado por: Joaquín Borges-Triana Hace unos días, una lectora de esta columna me abordó a la salida de un teatro para solicitarme que dedicase uno de estos espacios a los californianos de Avenged Sevenfold, sin discusión alguna la banda más popular actualmente en la escena de rock y metal de los Estados Unidos. Le prometí que sí, que a la primera oportunidad escribiría algo acerca de dicha formación, poniendo énfasis en su última producción fonográfica, el disco titulado Nightmare. Mientras pensaba en lo que iba a escribir, la primera idea que me vino a la cabeza fue que haber escuchado mucha música durante años tiene su lado bueno, pero también una arista negativa. Sucede que de manera inevitable y por más que se trate de evitar, los que como yo llevamos tiempo en estas lides, no podemos resistirnos a establecer comparaciones y a evocar lo hecho en otras épocas por múltiples artistas que, en muchos casos, resultan desconocidos para la gente joven. Algo así me ocurre con Avenged Sevenfold, agrupación de la que no niego el talento de sus integrantes, pero que a mí en lo particular, no me aporta nada nuevo, al margen de que soy consciente de sus altísimos niveles de venta y del reconocimiento del cual han gozado por importantes publicaciones del medio rockero y metalero, como las revistas Guitar World, Metal Hammer, Total Guitar y Kerrang.
