This ride was designed with the help of Mike Johnston. The goal was to create a cymbal that can effortlessly transition from articulate sticking to wide-open crashing (and back) while never losing the stick definition. This makes the 21" cymbal surprisingly versatile. The top is unlathed and slightly polished for clear sticking and a present, but not overpowering, bell. The bottom is lathed and The Byzance polished to a brilliant finish, which allows the cymbal to open up for slightly trashy Transition Ride crashes. Test out the Byzance Transition Ride at your authorized Meinl dealer. MEINL PROFESSIONAL CYMBALS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE AT AUTHORIZED STOCKING DEALERS. fromMeinl. • Most Underrated Band of All Time?
:: View email as a web page :: For the past 15 years, Manchester Orchestra has been one of the most popular emo bands on the planet. The one person who has been there every step of the way is founding singer-songwriter Andy Hull, who started the band when he was in his teens and has charted his own growing-up process with each album. Manchester Orchestra has also matured a lot over the years, evolving from an intense and volatile post-hardcore outt on albums like 2009’s Mean Everything To Nothing to the expansive and philosophical indie rock of their latest, The Million Masks Of God, which drops next week. Along the way, they’ve managed to somehow grow their audience while retaining committed fans who connected with the early records as teenagers, including famous acolytes like Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker. “Even though everything did well at that time, it wasn’t really accepted by critics and ‘cool’ people,” Hull recently mused about his back catalogue, “and that totally worked in our favor, because it still holds up. It sounds, to me, pretty timeless.” Ahead of the release of The Million Masks Of God, Hull reected on every Manchester Orchestra LP, candidly breaking down the myriad fascinating dramas that marked the process of making each record. L'album, il settimo della carriera, raccoglie 12 tracce ed è stato anticipato dal singolo "I Don't Rise Against: il nuovo album "The Want To Be Here Anymore". Questa la tracklist del disco: "The Great Die-off", "I Don't want to be here Anymore", "Tragedy + Time", "The Black Market", "The Eco-Terrorist in me", "Sudden Life", "A Beautiful Indifference", "Methadone", "Zero Visibility", "Awake too long", "People Live Here", "Bridges".

MODERN DRUMMER VOL. 8, NO. 12 Cover Photo by Layne Murdock CONTENTS FEATURES TERRY BOZZIO Although his work with such artists as Frank Zappa, the Brecker Brothers, and UK established Terry Bozzio's reputation as a fine drummer, his work with Missing Persons has revealed that there is more to Bozzio than was demonstrated in those other situations. Here, he talks about the hard work that went into starting his own band, explains his feelings that drummers should be more visible, and details his self-designed electronic drumset. by Rick Mattingly 8 OMAR HAKIM The fact that Weather Report and David Bowie have been sharing the same drummer says a lot about Omar Hakim's versatility, especially when one considers the wide range of styles that each of those situations encompasses. But Hakim's background prepared him well for the many diverse musical settings he has encountered, and he recounts that background in this amiable discussion of his life and career. by Robin Tolleson 14 INSIDE CALATO by Rick Van Horn 18 IAN PAICE The drummer for Deep Purple reminisces about the group's formation, discusses the band's reunion after an eight-year breakup, and describes Deep Purple's effect on today's music. He also talks about his experiences as the drummer for Whitesnake and Gary Moore, and explains the differences in playing with a guitar-oriented versus a vocal-oriented band. by Robyn Flans 22 TRISTAN FRY Modest Virtuoso by Simon Goodwin 26 DRIVER'S SEAT COLUMNS Phrasing With A Big Band PROFILES by Mark Hurley 112 PORTRAITS EDUCATION JAZZ DRUMMERS WORKSHOP Allen Herman New Concepts For Improved by Don Perman 30 THE MUSICAL DRUMMER Performance Chord Changes—Part 2 by Laura Metallo, Ph.D.
