The new machines are much more efficient than the devices previously in use, allowing staff to provide care in a more efficient and timely manner. The Auxilliary made the donation from funds raised through raffles, their monthly book stall at the Koo Wee Community Market, morning teas, fashion fundraisers and their annual open day at Harewood House. The Auxilliary meets at 10am on the first Friday of every month in the training room at the hospital. New members are very welcome; and, despite the name, you don't need to be a lady to be a member. Please call Jan on 5997 1035 if you would like to find out more about joining the Auxilliary. THE TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES (Edited Extracts) The Township held its AGM and monthly meeting on Wednesday, 5 November. Township Meetings are open to anyone who would like to attend. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 3 December at 7:30 pm at the Community Centre. Lyn van de Hoef again raised the issue of why there was only one footpath built along Denhams Road and not one on both sides. There is only one footpath and that eventually deviates into the newly built parkland. This is contrary to the Koo‐Wee‐Rup town strategy plan. Cr. Young replied that two footpaths were required on major roads but only one footpath is normally built in courts and such like minor roads. Lyn will send details from the strategy plan to Cr. Young for him to follow up and check. On the subject of a possible new recreational reserve, the Shire Council is still awaiting details from the Koo‐Wee‐Rup Cricket and Football Clubs with their requirements. Dr Wirth joined the RSPCA as a junior member in 1948, trained in veterinary science and practiced as a veterinarian for 47 years, and has become one of LETTER TO THE EDITOR It was with some concern that I read the article in Monday's Herald Sun citing Crime Regional Hotspots reporting Kooweerup having 5 homicides in the last 4 years.. Young advised that this work would not be done for some while. He said he would find out an answer for the next meeting of the Township Committee. Frank Crameri asked if the Media release, announcing a new $120 million fund for growth Council infrastructure, is just an election promise? Cr Young advised that, yes, it is part of the Coalition’s election campaign but, with Cardinia’s rapidly growing population, we should create a needs list now to strengthen our case. Cr Young told the meeting of the visit to Pakenham by the Governor of Victoria, His Excellency the Hon Alex Chernov AC QC. The Governor toured the Shire for the day and presented awards in the evening to local businesses. He was very impressed with what he saw of the Shire. The Shire Council, its offices and personnel, are moving to their new premises in Officer on the 17th November. It is hoped that there will be a good improvement in productivity following the move. Re Public Art for Koo‐Wee‐Rup. The three artists, who came individually to the community centre to explain their conception for a public artwork in Koo‐Wee‐Rup, will be taking their proposals to the Shire arts committee within the next few weeks. Cr. Young advised that a selection by the arts committee would take some time to resolve to be sure of a correct decision. Gus Moore asked about the timing of the installation of the proposed bollards for the ‘Avenue of Honour’. Cr. Young said he would coordinate work on this project with the relevant Shire Council officers. The bollards will prevent vehicles from driving through the memorial trees in the Avenue. A question was asked about the exit and entrance to the proposed microbrewery. VicRoads, the consulting authority, has approved the plans for the entrance and exit to the site. At the time of completion, the Koo‐Wee‐Rup by‐pass will be open and that will have a considerable effect on reducing the traffic flow through the Town. Re: the subject of cars taking a short cut through the unused premises at the junction of Station Street and Rossiter Road. It is not illegal to drive through the site and it is the responsibility of the landowner, not the Shire Council to install preventative devices on site. However, the Shire Council is negotiating with the owner to install better bollards George Fittock asked about overhanging bushes and trees that obstruct footpaths. Cr. Young said that vegetation that obstructed free passage was the responsibility of the householder or landowner to clear and they have to guarantee free passage for pedestrians. The Shire Council officers will do an audit and send warning letters to offending householders or owners. Caroline Roff asked about plants on nature strips that obscured vision for residents driving out of their own driveway. It can be quite hazardous. Cr. Young replied and said affected residents should contact the Shire Council to trim or replace these types of plants. Valmai Walker asked if Townley Road could be opened through to John Street. Cr. Young said he would enquire with the Shire Council the wherewithal of the question. Cr. Young commented on a question in previous minutes about the correct spelling for Alexandra Avenue –should it be changed back to Alexander Avenue after Alexander Mickle the pioneer.
