CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO COMMISSION ON THE ENVIRONMENT DIRECTOR’S REPORT September 27, 2016 ------------------------------- This report covers San Francisco Department of the Environment updates for the period of July 1 – August 31, 2016 Residential Programs - SCHOOL EDUCATION: Gave 11 assemblies/presentations to 985 students at six schools and youth programs across the city. - TOXICS REDUCTION: Approved, with conditions, the Safe Drug Disposal Product Stewardship Plan submitted by MED-Project. Plan approval is a major milestone in implementation of the 2015 Ordinance, which requires installation and operation of a minimum of 55 free medicine collection locations for San Francisco residents to safely dispose of their unwanted and expired medicines. The approved Plan commits to installation of all 55 collection locations by the end of 2017. - ENERGY: The San Francisco BayREN Multifamily program is on track to meet our units-served goal (1,250 units) for 2017. Moreover, projects in other neighboring counties BayREN programs been canceled, resulting in an 800-unit deficit for the regional BayREN (administered by the Association of Bay Area Governments). San Francisco BayREN will help the region make-up that deficit by bringing in an additional 400 units by December 2016. - ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE: Working with the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development to provide Healthy Homes trainings and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) services at two HOPE SF sites, Hunters View (HV) and Alice Griffith. Provided IPM workshop with Pestec at Hunters View in July. - OUTREACH – ZERO WASTE: The RealFoodiesCompost.com campaign launched in Mid-July and runs through Mid-October. The campaign targets those who are new the city and least aware of the green bin program, with a goal of raising awareness and ultimately keeping organics out of the landfill. -

In accordance with the provisions of Section 73.2080(f)(4) of the Commission’s EEO rules, the FCC annually audits the EEO programs of randomly selected broadcast licensees. Each year, approximately five percent of all radio and television stations are selected for EEO audits. Attached are a list of the radio stations to which the audit letters were sent, as well as the text of the June 26, 2013 audit letter. The list and the letter can also be viewed by accessing the Media Bureau’s current EEO headline page on the FCC website at http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/equal-employment-opportunity-2013-headlines . NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER Ethnic Media Services, founded in 2018 to sustain and build on the work of New America Media, is pleased to publish our Directory of California Ethnic Media, which lists almost 300 news outlets — print, broadcast, digital — across the state. We are grateful for the support of key partners including California Black Media, ImpreMedia, Hoopa Radio, and the Center for Community & Ethnic Media, in compiling this list. The Directory aims to expand access to the sector at a time when communicating with California’s diverse communities has become more urgent than ever amidst the rollout of the 2020 census, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the economic turmoil it has generated. This Directory is a work-in-progress — in today’s highly fluid media landscape, we will update the online information monthly. Thanks to support from the Complete Count Committee Office 2020 Census and several national funders, we were able to expand our research and discover ethnic media platforms we never knew existed: podcasts, radio stations, weeklies, online news sites serving newly settled immigrants and long-siloed ethnic groups. The takeaway from our daily interactions with the sector is that despite the collapse of the business model that has decimated all media, the ethnic news outlets are determined to survive to inform and advocate for their audiences. Some of those outlets have been in opera- tion for decades while others are much newer. Their resilience is inspiring. Their role in creating an inclusive communications infrastruc- ture for this state is indispensable. We look forward to replicating the California Directory with a national listing of our ethnic media partners later this year. -
