SPRING/SUMMER EDITION BAECK IN THE MIDDLE FOR US, BY US Editor’s Note Wow, it has been a long and eventful year. So much has happened including the addition of the Joke of the Day to announcements, Friday’s Sportsdesk, Guinness Baeck of World Records and new Proso days and activities just to name a few. The entire Student Council has worked very hard to help create this amazing 2014-2015 year at Leo Baeck. As part of the Student Council Executive, one thing we can all take away from this year is that we learned how to innovate, and we all had so much fun doing it. Being on Student Council has taught me leadership skills, improved my public speaking and writing abilities. We are always trying to make sure we offer something for everyone. What could be better than that? Being on Student Council was a Coaster Rankings great experience. by Josh Till As the year closes, I’d like to wish good luck to Grade Eights in high school, the Grade Fives in Middle School, and the SK’s in Grade One. I hope If you are a coaster lover like me, then everyone enjoyed this year as much as I did. check out my rankings of the best coasters As your editor of Baeck in the Middle and Co- around. There is a lot of adventure to be VP of Communications, I’d like to wish you all a great summer. had this summer if you dare to ride... Stay Smooth, Leo Baeck. For our final sprit day, the Proso team created a whole new idea that will hopefully continue in the next few years at Leo Baeck: Crazy Day! Over the years, Crazy Hair and Shirt Day have been a fun day, where everyone in the school comes wearing their wackiest outfits. This year, the Proso team decided to add something new. Grades Five and under continued the tradition of Crazy Hair and Shirt Day, but Middle School changed it up. Together, every class voted on something weird, crazy, or exciting to dress up as. Each class went beyond our expectations and surprised us with their spirit and excitement towards this day. Whether it was a box of crayons, emojis, or the periodic table, Middle Schoolers came up with the most creative and unique ideas to dress up while showing class and school spirit. As the V.P’s of Proso, we are so proud of every class this year and all the enthusiasm during our spirit days. We also want to thank and congratulate every member of the Proso team, and the wonderful advisors, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Gordon, who guided and helped us weekly to plan these amazing activities. We could not have been able to lead these fun-filled days without you. We have had an amazing experience leading this committee, and we are excited to see how it will grow over the next couple of years. We are Proso, we’ve got spirit, Yo! Have an amazing summer everyone! Amy Kohn and Orli Amar Co-VP’s of Proso The RS360 Full Circle By Eliana Barbuzzi Your Student Council President and Lead RSA YAA stands for You Are Awesome. This year, the RSAs have brought many exciting features to make this campaign so...well... AWESOME. After introducing the campaign, we began collecting songs for a monthly playlist. Songs from the YAA playlist were not only used to begin our school days, but these great lists reflected a soundtrack of tunes to pick us up when we feel low. These are songs that can keep keeping us going even after school is over. Next, we brought you the Corridor of Awesomeness that was filled with your lists of adjectives and much more. After a very successful P.I.N.K. Shirt Day celebration, where we showed you the amazing video of each class singing the What I Am by Will i Am song, we continued our theme and refreshed the corridor with your decorated shirts, uplifting quotes and words that can help when you are feeling unsure. Next, we created and brought you the Self Esteem Toolbox. This toolbox was used by many classrooms to focus learning around the 10 tools we highlighted and can be used anywhere to change your frame of mind and help build your self esteem. To finish the year, we put all the pieces together and came back to where we began. Was it as great year in the RS360? Oh Device Advice By David Hascal and Noah Juravsky In this edition of Device Advice, we will be reviewing a couple of products that we had talked about earlier in the year. Now that they have hit store shelves, our Device Advice will have been tested in real life scenarios. Ringly Ring We think product is quite alright. It has a few benefits that we do like. Here is our review based on the reviews of some of the buyers of this product. This is an amazing product that can really be useful in many ways and is directed to people who are typically into fashion and want convenience and quality. This product discourages having your phone at the table. This way you can have a nice conversation without having your phone out. Instead of an obnoxious phone that rings at every single moment, the ring shines a coloured light that is very discreet that notifies, yet isn’t annoying. It comes in a lovely box that is also its charging station. This product is targeted for women because it’s fashionable and it comes in many unique colours. However, the Bluetooth on the ring is of poor quality not to mention that it’s battery life lasts for very few hours. This product needs a lot of improvement. The Apple Watch The Apple Watch is a marvelously constructed, compact Smartwatch. The Apple Watch conveniently sits on your wrist which allows you to hide your phone and still speak, text or listen to music, no headphones required. It's feature-packed with solid fitness software, hundreds of apps and has the ability to send and receive calls via an iPhone. The Apple Watch is the most ambitious, well-constructed Smartwatch ever seen, but we feel that the product is more like a fashionable toy than a necessary tool to really make life easier. The battery barely lasts a day and recharge time is somewhat slow. The watch is also sometimes slow to communicate with a paired iPhone. This watch can get up to a 4 hour charge, so it requires regular recharging. As well, most models and configurations cost more than they should and requires an iPhone 5 or newer to work. Watch out before you buy this watch. Leo’s Listz(1) Hello and welcome to the first edition of ‘Leo’s Listz’! I list things from best activities to most popular songs.
