FOOTBALL The Tampa Bay Buccaneers began their journey in 1976, and their proud home is the Raymond James Stadium. Known as the “The Crown Jewel of the NFL”, Raymond James Stadium features state-of-the-art technology and modern design. In January of 2003, the Buccaneers brought home the Lombardi Trophy after defeating Oakland in Super Bowl XXXVII.
Is college football more what you’re looking for? We have that too, with the University of South Florida. If you’re in town for New Year’s be sure to catch the Outback Bowl, which takes place at Raymond James Stadium every year.
HOCKEY Hockey fanatics can visit the Lightning while in Tampa. The Tampa Bay Lightning, known as the “Bolts”, play at the Amalie Arena and have been an active team since 1992. They have made it to the championship rounds twice, and won the Stanley Cup in their 2003-04 season. The Lightning’s regular season runs from October to April, so be sure to catch a game.
BASEBALL The Tampa Bay Rays franchise was born in 1998 at the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and have played at the Tropicana Field since their inception. In 2007, they changed their team colors and franchise name to Tampa Bay Rays. In 2008, they were able to finish in 1st place as the Eastern Division Champions. You can catch spring training or a ball game starting in March every year at Tropicana Field. Be sure to check out the Rays Touch Tank while you’re there, the 10,000 gallon tank is home to three different species of rays.
