No. 150705094 viii UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA ABSTRACT This thesis is entitled "An Analysis of Supernatural Power in Stephen King's Novel Carrie and Risa Saraswati's Novel Gerbang Dialog Danur: A Comparative Literature". In this research, the author analyzed the supernatural powers in two novels Carrie by Stephen King and Gerbang Dialog Danur by Risa Saraswati. This research uses the theory of Supernatural Power by Murray. The purposes of this thesis are to find out supernatural power portrayed in both novels and to find out the similarities and differences of supernatural power in both. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data were in the form of words, phrases, sentences and quotations. The result shows there are two kinds of supernatural power in Carrie‟s novel, which are Telekinesis and Telepathy. While in Gerbang Dialog Danur is sixth sense. Based on the analysis, it is found that the novels show similarities and differences regarding forms of the elements in novels. Key Words : Supernatural Power, Telekinesis, Telepathy, Sixth Sense and Comparative Literature ix UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA ABSTRAK Skripsi ini berjudul “An Analysis of Supernatural Power in Stephen King’s Novel Carrie and Risa Saraswati’s Novel Gerbang Dialog Danur: A Comparative Literature”. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menganalisa tentang kekuatan supernatural yang digambarkan dalam dua novel Carrie oleh Stephen King dan Gerbang Dialog Danur oleh Risa Saraswati. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori kekuatan supernatural oleh Murray. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan kekuatan supernatural yang tergambar di kedua novel dan untuk menemukan persamaan dan perbedaan tentang kekuatan supernatural di kedua novel. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian ini berupa kata, frasa, kalimat dan kutipan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan ada dua jenis kekuatan supernatural di novel Carrie yaitu telekinesis dan telepati. Sedangkan dalam novel Gerbang Dialog Danur adalah indera ke enam. Berdasarkan analisis, ditemukan bahwa ada kesamaan dan perbedaan berdasarkan element novel.
