Despite the drought, there was a good flow of water over the falls. Next, on to Tooma and afternoon tea at Scott & Meryle’s property, then on to Corryong for our first night. It was an easy stroll from the Motel to the pub for dinner. Day two: a bit of a look around Corryong including the Man From Snowy River Museum, then on to Thredbo for two nights, having lunch at Khancoban. The Chrysler got a bit hot on the climb and needed a rest not far from the top. No other troubles were reported. Weather conditions were excellent. Rocky consumed the most oxygen! Heading off We made it!! On the way back to the base Who are these two lovebirds? WAGGA WAGGA VETERAN & VINTAGE MOTOR CLUB INC – THE FAMILY CLUB - Page 7 REFLECTION — APRIL 2019 Day four: Thredbo to Talbingo via the Cooma Wrecking Yard was the longest drive of the trip. 4000 vehicles on 20 acres is a huge number to look at. The older stuff is pretty well picked over but still worth a look for that illusive part. Those not interested in the wrecking yard had a look around the shops in Cooma. The clouds closed in as we drove to Talbingo and many cars copped a good downpour with thunder and lightening. IanH confided that he and ChrisH were so close to a lightening strike that he was forced to utter a profanity and to check that he still had a boot lid. We enjoyed a pre-booked dinner at Talbingo Lodge. Julie had avoided the drive home by catching an ambulance and Careflight chopper to Canberra Hospital. Rocky gave regular updates by text message. Day five: homeward bound via Tumut, again through heavy rain. Special thanks to Rob and ChrisB for organising this event. Stu, Events Director EXTRAS Just a couple of little things along the way: And some of us had to brave the water to rescue their lift pass from an icy stream. B. poiciloptilus is a large, stocky, thick-necked heron-like bird with camouflage-like plumage growing up to 66-76 cm with a wingspan of 1050-1180 cm and feeds on freshwater crustacean, fish, insects, snakes, leaves and fruit. N. oxleyana is light brown to olive coloured freshwater fish with mottling and three to four patchy, dark brown bars extending from head to tail and a whitish belly growing up to 35-60 mm. This is a mobile species that is often observed individually or in pairs and sometimes in small groups but does not form schools and feed on aquatic insects and their larvae (Allen, 1989; McDowall, 1996). E. leuraensis is an insectivorous, medium-sized lizard growing to approximately 20 cm in length. This species has a relatively dark brown/black body when compared to other Eulamprus spp. Also has narrow yellow/bronze to white stripes along its length to beginning of the tail and continuing along the tail as a series of spots (LeBreton, 1996; Cogger, 2000).

  • The Dawes Family of Good Hope, Yass, New South Wales
The Dawes Family of Good Hope, Yass, New South Wales A Family History Compiled from various sources and written by Joan Murray Dawes B.A.(LibSc) 2018 For Bill and Babe This is a story for the many Australian descendants of a Yass pioneer family created by Emigrants William Henry Daws from Cornwall, per “Herefordshire” 1857 & Mary Anne Flanagan from Galway, per “Kate” 1855 Married Yass NSW 1859 Why do we research our Family History? We are the chosen. My feeling is that in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again. To tell the family story and to feel that somehow those who went before know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called as if it were in our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us; Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told my ancestors, "You have a wonderful family; you would be proud of us." How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting the facts. It goes to who I am, and why I do the things I do.
