Detroitgp.Com / 866.464.Prix Grand Prix Fans DETROITGP.COM / 866.464.PRIX GRAND PRIX FANS We are so excited to be able to return to Belle Isle this summer and host the 2021 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. After all that the world and our region has experienced in the last 18 months with the global pandemic, we are so thankful for the opportunity to bring racing back to the Motor City. As we continue to emerge from the pandemic, it is important that we start to bring big events back to Detroit and Southeast Michigan and host fans in a safe manner. We thank you for being part of the Grand Prix and helping to get the wheels turning again. Now more than ever, we are proud of what our event brings to Belle Isle and to our region. With more than $13.5 million in improvements to the island since the Grand Prix returned to Detroit in 2007 and working with our partners at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, we remain focused on helping to restore and rejuvenate this world-class island park. Through our annual Grand Prixmiere fundraising event, the Grand Prix has also helped raise more than $5 million for the Belle Isle Conservancy over the past seven years. We are thrilled to share the beauty of Belle Isle and the Detroit and Windsor international riverfront with the world this weekend through back-to-back days of network television programming on NBC and around the globe with international broadcast coverage. It is going to be a memorable weekend on track with three incredible series competing in five races over three days on Belle Isle. Continu- ing our doubleheader tradition with the high-powered cars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, we will once again host the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit on Saturday-Sunday. The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship returns to compete in the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic on Saturday and for the first time since 2008, we will see the iconic Corvette GT cars in action at their home race with the powerful mid- engine C8.Rs in IMSA action for Corvette Racing. We also welcome the future stars of racing on the Road to Indy as Indy Lights present- ed by Cooper Tires will compete on Belle Isle for the first time since 2012 with races on both Saturday and Sunday. We want to thank Chevrolet and General Motors for their continued support of the Grand Prix, as well as our partners at Lear Corporation for helping us bring this summertime celebration back to the Motor City. We appreciate all of our partners that are represented at the Grand Prix. With the support of these great companies and the hard work and dedication of our amazing Detroit Grand Prix Association volunteers, the Grand Prix continues to be a positive force. We appreciate you joining us for the 2021 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear and for following the health and safety guide- lines and protocols in place this weekend. With your help, we look forward to a fun, exciting and safe weekend on Belle Isle. Please visit our website at DetroitGP.com after the event to share your feedback. Sincerely, Bud Denker Chairman Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear 2 DEAR RACE FANS On behalf of General Motors, Chevrolet and Cadillac, I’d like to welcome you to Detroit and to Belle Isle for a great week- end of motorsports action at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. It’s been two long years since we’ve heard the roar of racing in downtown Detroit, but the teams are now poised to start their engines. It will surely be a different kind of race weekend at Belle Isle in 2021, with limited crowds and COVID-19 protocols in place, but it’s going to be an- other big step toward the return to normalcy we all want and need. And in this particular case, normalcy is watching the world’s best drivers face the challenge of the island’s 2.3-mile street circuit – an exhilarating experience no matter how many times you’ve done it before. Belle Isle will host five races from three series, June 11-13, includ- ing what continues to stand out as the only doubleheader race weekend on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule – the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit. With two full-points races on Saturday and Sunday, the event weekend has huge implications in the Series’ championship battle. It’s a true test of strategy, setup and execution of race plan. These ingredients are sure to combine for an exciting weekend of great racing action. The weekend’s races at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear include: • Chevrolet Dual in Detroit (NTT INDYCAR SERIES) • Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires (Rounds 5 and 6) • Chevrolet Sports Car Classic (IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car Championship Race) Whether you can enjoy it in person or via the superb live television coverage, it’s sure to be a weekend to remember. Thank you for your interest in and support of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. Sincerely, Mark L. • Laurel Racing Camaro
Laurel Racing Camaro History The story of the Laurel Racing 1970 Camaro begins in 1968. In 1968 and 1969, Laurel Racing successfully campaigned a 1968 Camaro in Trans Am, A Sedan, and endurance races. As a result of this success, in 1970, Chevrolet Product Performance offered to support Laurel Racing’s effort in Chevrolet’s new “second generation” Camaro. Chevrolet had achieved great success in the Trans Am series with its first generation Camaro. When the second generation Camaro was introduced, the “Win on Sunday. Sell on Monday” philosophy led Chevrolet to offer its top performing teams new second generation Camaros. Based on this commitment, Larry Drover, owner of Laurel Racing offered his 1968 Camaro for sale. To sell his “first generation” Camaro, Larry placed a classified ad in Autoweek. The text of Larry’s advertisement read: Trans Am Camaro. Very competitive. Full roll cage, 1969 engine, all new suspension, mags, all possible factory options, extra wheels, 4 gear ratios, extra engine if desired. Preparing 1970 automobile. After winning the T/A championship, Roger Penske announced that, for 1970, Penske Racing would compete in the T/A championship with AMC Javelins.
