Porsche at Le Mans Meet the Heroes of Le Mans • Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1 Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans Porsche in the starting line-up for 63 years The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the most famous endurance race in the world. The post-war story of the 24 Heures du Mans begins in the year 1949. And already in 1951 – the pro - duction of the first sports cars in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen commenced in March the previous year – a small delegation from Porsche KG tackles the high-speed circuit 200 kilometres west of Paris in the Sarthe department. Class victory right at the outset for the 356 SL Aluminium Coupé marks the beginning of one of the most illustrious legends in motor racing: Porsche and Le Mans. Race cars from Porsche have contested Le Mans every year since 1951. The reward for this incredible stamina (Porsche is the only marque to have competed for 63 years without a break) is a raft of records, including 16 overall wins and 102 class victories to 2013. The sporting competition and success at the top echelon of racing in one of the world’s most famous arenas is as much a part of Porsche as the number combination 911. After a number of class wins in the early fifties with the 550, the first time on the podium in the overall classification came in 1958 with the 718 RSK clinching third place.

Gérard Gilles Marie Armand Larrousse was born in 1940 in Lyon, where his father ran a textile factory. “I was fascinated by motorbikes and sports cars from a young age but my family had other plans for me. For my father, cars were mainly a means of transport,” he reminisces. When he was 21 and still a student, he attended the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris and took part in his first rally in France. After completing his studies and military service, Larrousse decided in 1966 to make racing his career. “My first job was as official works driver at NSU France. After that, I drove for Automobiles Alpine for two successful years,” he says of his early days as a professional racing driver. Rallye Monte Carlo 1969: Gérard Larrousse and Claude Perramond (co-driver) finished in second place overall in a Porsche 911 S 2.0 Coupé www.porscheroadandrace.com In 1968, Gérard Larrousse almost prevented the first Porsche win at the Monte Carlo Rally. Driving a Renault Alpine 1300, he was a major threat to Porsche works driver Vic Elford who was behind the wheel of a 911 T. Only when spectators shovelled snow onto the track on a special stage did Gérard lose control of the car and have to give up.

  • Porsche 919 Hybrid English.Indd
Porsche 919 Hybrid Return to top-level sport Porsche is making its comeback to the top-level motorsport arena: with the new 919 Hybrid the sports car brand is sending a platform for pioneering technology to the top category of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the undisputed seasonal highlight of the 24-hour Le Mans race. Porsche's reputation precedes it at this venue: with 16 overall victories under its belt, the brand holds the record for this, the most famous endurance race in the world. In 2014 Porsche is returning to the top-level class endurance race after a 16-year absence - namely Le Mans Prototypes (LMP1). Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG explains: "The new and revolutionary efficiency regulations for this class were what prompted us to take this step. In 2014 it is not going to be the fastest contender who is going to win the sports car world championship and Le Mans, but the car that gets furthest with the defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that the automotive industry has to face. The 919 Hybrid is like a high speed research laboratory and the most complex racing car Porsche has ever built." The new WEC regulations for the LMP1 racing car gives engineers an unusual amount of leeway and demands pioneering technology, such as hybridisation, downsizing engines and consistent lightweight construction. This is all particularly relevant for the development of future generations of factory-spec sports cars. Maximum sporting performance and highest efficiency are at the heart of "Porsche Intelligent Performance".

Recommended by CHRYSLER, GM, MERCEDES and VAG (Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Seat). Specially designed for the latest generation cars, powered by Gasoline and Diesel engines, naturally aspirated or turbocharged, indirect or direct injection, Euro 4, 5 or 6 emission regulation compliant and requiring an ACEA C3 engine oil i.e. high HTHS (> 3.5 mPa.s) viscosity and "Mid SAPS" with reduced content of Sulfated Ash (≤ 0.8%), Phosphorus (0.07 ≤ x ≤ 0.09%) and Sulfur (≤ 0.3%). Compatible with catalytic converters (CAT) and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF). Always refer to the owner’s manual if in doubt. PERFORMANCES STANDARDS ACEA C3 API SERVICE SN APPROVALS MB-Approval 229.51 VW 505 00 – 505 01 PERFORMANCES CHRYSLER MS 11106 GM dexos2® (replaces GM-LL-A-025 & B-025) RECOMMENDATIONS HONDA, KIA / HYUNDAI, MITSUBISHI, NISSAN, SUBARU, SUZUKI, SSANGYONG, TOYOTA,… Engines compliant with Euro 4, 5 and 6 emission regulations are fitted with sensitive exhaust gas after treatment systems. Indeed, Sulfur and Phosphorus inhibit catalytic converter operation leading to inefficient exhaust gas treatment. Also, Sulfated Ashes clog DPFs leading to shorten regenerating cycles, quick oil aging, higher fuel consumption and engine power loss. The ACEA C3 standard requires from the lubricant significant oil film resistance and low emission performance during use in powerful engines. MOTUL 6100 SYN-clean 5W-30 has Technosynthese® synthetic base stocks coupled with specific friction modifier molecules and dedicated SAPS levels that generate outstanding oil film resistance, reduce friction in the engine and provide after treatment devices compatibility.
