  • Laurel Racing Camaro
Laurel Racing Camaro History The story of the Laurel Racing 1970 Camaro begins in 1968. In 1968 and 1969, Laurel Racing successfully campaigned a 1968 Camaro in Trans Am, A Sedan, and endurance races. As a result of this success, in 1970, Chevrolet Product Performance offered to support Laurel Racing’s effort in Chevrolet’s new “second generation” Camaro. Chevrolet had achieved great success in the Trans Am series with its first generation Camaro. When the second generation Camaro was introduced, the “Win on Sunday. Sell on Monday” philosophy led Chevrolet to offer its top performing teams new second generation Camaros. Based on this commitment, Larry Drover, owner of Laurel Racing offered his 1968 Camaro for sale. To sell his “first generation” Camaro, Larry placed a classified ad in Autoweek. The text of Larry’s advertisement read: Trans Am Camaro. Very competitive. Full roll cage, 1969 engine, all new suspension, mags, all possible factory options, extra wheels, 4 gear ratios, extra engine if desired. Preparing 1970 automobile. Laurel Racing, 3220 Rexford Drive, South Bend, IN 46615. (219) 234-2535 Autoweek, September 20, 1969 The Laurel Racing “first generation” Camaro at the 1969 24 Hours of Daytona. Note that the Camaro is a 1968, but it is sporting a 1969 cowl induction crossram hood. Later, the front body panels would also be converted to the 1969 versions. February 2, 1969. Photo: Louis Galanos. In 1969, Chevrolet won the Trans Am manufacturer’s championship. The “factory team” was Penske Racing with Mark Donohue the primary driver. After winning the T/A championship, Roger Penske announced that, for 1970, Penske Racing would compete in the T/A championship with AMC Javelins.

  • CGRFS Claims Top-Five Finish at Raceway at Belle Isle Park
Results (with starting position) from the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic Presented by Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers P1 (5) No. 31 Corvette DP (Curran/Cameron) P2 (6) No. 60 Honda HPD Ligier JS P2 (Pew/Negri Jr.) P3 (1) No. 5 Corvette DP (Barbosa/Fittipaldi) P4 (4) No. 01 Ford EcoBoost Riley (Pruett/Hand) CGRFS Claims Top-Five Finish at Raceway at Belle Isle Park DETROIT, Mi. (May 31, 2015) – Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) with drivers Scott Pruett and Joey Hand finished fourth in the Prototype class in the Chevrolet Sports Car Classis Presented by Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers in Detroit, Michigan. Pruett started the No. 01 Ford EcoBoost Riley in the fourth position for the opening stint of the 100-minute sprint race. As the seven-car Prototype class navigated through the 2.35-mile street course, Pruett kept the No. 01 Prototype clean as the bumps in the new pavement proved to be a challenge. The first caution of the race fell with an hour remaining and allowed Pruett to make the team’s only pit stop and give the wheel over to Joey Hand. Hand restarted the race in the fifth position as the rain began to fall. With 10 laps to go, a third full-course caution came out allowing Hand to make the pass for fourth on the final restart. On the final lap, the No. 5 had a mishap causing the Corvette DP to spin allowing Hand to close the gap. A late-race battle between third, fourth and fifth led to an exciting finish, but Hand wasn’t able to make the pass for third resulting in a fourth-place Prototype class finish.

  • SRT Motorsports Pre-Race Release - Trans Am Series at Lime Rock Park
Contact: Bill Klingbeil Adam Saal Matthew Simmons SRT Motorsports Pre-Race Release - Trans Am Series at Lime Rock Park September 17, 2014, SALISBURY, Conn. - Coming off SRT (Street and Racing Technology) Motorsports’ first Trans Am Series runner-up result in its most recent race, the team’s Dodge Challengers are eager to contend for a victory at Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park in the ninth Trans Am race of the 2014 season on Saturday, Sept. 20 – and will do so with a new, familiar face behind the wheel. After making two starts in the No. 11 Dodge Challenger, Tommy Kendall will hand off the wheel to fellow legend Tommy Archer for a spot start in the SRT entry. With Kendall scheduled to make an appearance in California as a talent on a television broadcast that same weekend, the famed road racer and long-time Dodge driver will get his opportunity to return to Trans Am for SRT’s third series start. Archer is an accomplished road racer whose career has spanned five decades since his debut in 1970. The native of Duluth, Minnesota has collected victories in IMSA, SCCA and Trans Am Series racing, in addition to recording a pair of runner-up results in the 1998 and 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Dodge Viper. In addition to his racing successes, Archer also worked with Dodge on the development of the Viper Competition Coupe during the 2000s. In the most-recent Trans Am Series event, Kendall piloted the No. 11 Challenger to a runner-up result in just SRT’s second race in the series, the 26th Annual Muscle Car Shootout at Minnesota's Brainerd International Raceway in August.
