MALAYSIA The Kampung Kuantan Firefly Reserve Jamil bin Hamzah and Suzana Mohkeri Wetlands International-Asia Pacific INTRODUCTION Malaysia is comprised of 13 federal states with Kuala Lumpur as the federal capital situated in the Federal Territory. Eleven states are in West Malaysia (also known as Peninsular Malaysia) and two states are situated in Borneo Island. Selangor is one of the most highly developed and urbanized states in Malaysia. However, there are still large areas of forested lands scattered throughout the state either under forest reserves, owned by the state, private companies or private landowners. Since the beginning of civilization rivers have been the most important source of food, water resources and transportation. In Malaysia, human settlement always related or concentrated along the rivers. Sungai Selangor (Selangor River), is one of the main rivers in the state of Selangor. The headwater of Sungai Selangor originates from the highland area of the Titiwangsa Range, which is part of the Main Range, the backbone of Peninsular Malaysia. It is an important source of water supply for domestic and agriculture use and fishing industries for people living along the riverbanks. Sungai Selangor flows mainly through oil palm estates and small villages and it does not pass through any major towns. Thus the riparian vegetation along the riverbanks is still intact. According to a report prepared by the Department of Environment, Sungai Selangor river basin is listed as one of the two cleanest rivers in Selangor (Environmental Quality Report, 1996). This river is highlighted here not because of its important food and water resources but of its ecotourism factor. -

Among these modes, bus transportation continues to be the top choice for intercity travelers in Malaysia. Bus offers more flexibility compared to the other transport modes. Due to its relatively cheaper fare as compared to the air transport, bus is more affordable to those with low income. However, bus transport service today is starting to face higher competition from rail and air transport due to their attractive factors. The huge challenge faced by intercity bus transport in Malaysia is the management of its services. The intercity bus transport does not fall under one management; unlike rail transport which is managed under Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), or air transport which is managed under Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB). -

Media Release Terminal 2 prepares to handle more passengers SINGAPORE, 30 August 2012 – With the closure of the Budget Terminal (BT) at Singapore Changi Airport on 25 September 2012, airlines currently operating at the terminal – Berjaya Air, Cebu Pacific, Firefly, Mandala Airlines, South East Asian Airlines and Tiger Airways – will move their operations to Terminal 2 on that day. Changi Airport Group (CAG) has implemented measures to ensure a smooth transition for the airlines while passenger facilities at Terminal 2 are undergoing upgrading works so that service levels will continue to be high. CAG has actively engaged its airline partners to prepare for the move. This has included ensuring that ground handlers and service staff are trained and ready to operate in the new terminal. Since April 2012, CAG has also reassigned the check-in counters for existing carriers in Terminal 2 to accommodate the BT airlines. The revised list can be found in Annex A. Improvements are being made to key touch points in Terminal 2 to enhance the travelling experience for passengers. For example, the Departure and Arrival Immigration areas are currently being upgraded to increase the number of automated immigration gantries. In addition, the taxi waiting area in the Arrival Hall will be expanded and additional taxi bays will also be constructed. The move of the six BT airlines to Terminal 2 will see the addition of some 790 weekly flights. In terms of passenger movements, Terminal 2 and BT managed about 13 million and 5 million respectively in the past year. Terminal 2 can handle up to 23 million passenger movements a year and managed 21.6 million passenger movements in 2007, just before the opening of Terminal 3 in January 2008. -

A total of 783 complaints were registered with MAVCOM for the period 1 July to 31 December 2019, with 751 complaints on airlines and 32 on airports. This is a decrease of 4.7% as compared to the period 1 July to 31 December 2018, when MAVCOM registered 822 complaints. 98.6% of the complaints received for the period 1 July to 31 December 2019 have been resolved and closed by MAVCOM. Mishandled baggage, processing of refunds and flight delay issues represent 51.9% of the nature of complaints received by MAVCOM during this period. Through the Commission’s review of the complaints for the period 1 July to 31 December 2019, 51.0% of the complaints resulted in the airlines reversing its initial decision and producing a resolution that is more equitable or satisfactory to the consumer than initially provided. -

RASG‐PA ESC/29 — WP/04 14/11/17 Twenty ‐ Ninth Regional Aviation Safety Group — Pan America Executive Steering Committee Meeting (RASG‐PA ESC/29) ICAO NACC Regional Office, Mexico City, Mexico, 29‐30 November 2017 Agenda Item 3: Items/Briefings of interest to the RASG‐PA ESC PROPOSAL TO AMEND ICAO FLIGHT DATA ANALYSIS PROGRAMME (FDAP) RECOMMENDATION AND STANDARD TO EXPAND AEROPLANES´ WEIGHT THRESHOLD (Presented by Flight Safety Foundation and supported by Airbus, ATR, Embraer, IATA, Brazil ANAC, ICAO SAM Office, and SRVSOP) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Flight Data Analysis Program (FDAP) working group comprised by representatives of Airbus, ATR, Embraer, IATA, Brazil ANAC, ICAO SAM Office, and SRVSOP, is in the process of preparing a proposal to expand the number of functional flight data analysis programs. It is anticipated that a greater number of Flight Data Analysis Programs will lead to significantly greater safety levels through analysis of critical event sets and incidents. Action: The FDAP working group is requesting support for greater implementation of FDAP/FDMP throughout the Pan American Regions and consideration of new ICAO standards through the actions outlined in Section 4 of this working paper.
