List of Journalists for Bayer to Select for Engagement 9/5/2019 FOREIGN PRESS ASSOCIATION Mail - BAYER-Foreign Press Association: next steps Thanos Dimadis <[email protected]> BAYER-Foreign Press Association: next steps 2 messages Thanos Dimadis <[email protected]> Thu, Sep 6, 2018 at 12:52 AM To: Christopher Loder <[email protected]>, [email protected] Chris: thank you for lunch today and for taking the time to meet. It's always nice to spend a great time with you, and I always enjoy our conversation. Thank you also for introducing me to Dan. Dan, it was a pleasure to meet you, and I am very excited about started working closely together on developing some great initiatives through the vehicle of the Foreign Press Association. As an immediate start and following up to our conversation let's focus on the two most immediate thing which is the Centennial Gala on November 8th at 7 World Trade Center (from 6.30 pm until 11 pm). The major supporters that will present their own corporation's major Scholarship Award are Microsoft and UnitedHealth Group with $50.000. Skybridge Capital of Scaramucci, CBS News, Procter & Gamble and Barilla Foundation are in the second category of the $25.000. Chris: following to our conversation what I want to please you kindly is if Ray approves that BAYER will be the number one supporter of the Foreign Press Association and Scholarship Awards above Microsoft and United Health Group. So far I have considered you in the level of the last year ($25.000). It will be an essential and valuable help to us to increase the level of the financial support to our scholars if BAYER becomes the Platinum supporter of the Foreign Press Scholarships on November 8th and also of the Centennial Drink Reception that will follow up in December (and we can combine it with a pre-Xmas party). For this to happen, it'd be important if BAYER can increase the level of its annual sponsorship from $25.000 to $70.000. If Ray and you want to approve this increase of $45.000 in the annual sponsorship (the 70% of this increase will go to increase the level of the financial support and other 30% for the costs related to the training of the scholars), I will be able to get all the boards agreed that BAYER would be above and before all other corporations presenting the number one scholarship award (BAYER Foreign Press Scholarship Award). You will be recognized as the major sponsor of the Centennial Gala, and at the same time, I will make sure Ray or you will give a speech on a broader media topic related to the foreign press and BAYER's investment in the future of the Foreign Press. In that major level, from the 150 VIP tickets, I will provide you at least 30-40 tickets to invite the list of all prominent journalists that you want to keep them engaged with BAYER, and I will also help you sort out the invitations and who are the right people to provide them tickets. I will also provide you access to all Knight Bagehot Fellows of all past 5 years (see here their profile), they are young and successful and I believe that having BAYER co-chairing the Centennial Gala will be a unique opportunity for BAYER's team to engage with them. In that level of support, you will be the major sponsor of the Centennial Drinks Reception that will follow up in December (we will figure out together the date) following the Centennial Gala on November 8th. Among the confirmed speakers so far Fareed Zakaria, Alison Smale from the United Nations, Lally Weymouth from Washington Post, and we expect some confirmations from CBS News and Wall Street Journal. I believe by working from now with Dan until November we can achieve some great success around this landmark event and if Bayer decides to go for the major sponsorship, it would help me justify to the board members and to other sponsors with Bayer will be above all other levels. Will you be able to confer with Ray today and let me know what the final decision will be? It will take off a lot of stress from my shoulders if we get approval for this from Ray and I guarantee you it will be tremendously successful both the Centennial Gala and the Centennial Drinks reception that will follow for those who were not able to attend the Gala because of the prices tickets and the costs. Below is also a list of foreign correspondents that we can select together who make sense for you to include as your guests given that will be a major supporter of the international press. Feel free to take a look. This is only a part of the list (300 plus names). The total list exceeds the 700 credentialed journalists we have access. I look forward to hearing from you! • Prime Minister Suga, Gender Equality and Rapport Speech: a Study of Speech Style
IPRPD International Journal of Arts, Humanities & Social Science ISSN 2693-2547 (Print), 2693-2555 (Online) Volume 02; Issue no 06: June 08, 2021 Prime Minister Suga, Gender Equality and Rapport Speech: A Study of Speech Style Shoji Azuma 1 1 Department of World Languages and Cultures, University of Utah, USA Abstract Issues related to gender equality have been widely and globally discussed in settings such as politics, education, healthcare and the workplace, among others. In Japan, the Japanese government has been working very hard to increase the number of women involved in Japanese politics, with minimal progress to date. The present prime minister of Japan, Yoshihide Suga, has intentionally sought to bring attention to this issue. He has, for the first time, selected a female cabinet relations chief for his government. His appointment of a female to this post is unprecedented. Unfortunately, due to a recent ethical code violation by the newly appointed female appointee and role model of female leadership in Japan, he felt constrained to accept her resignation from the post. The present study explores Prime Minister Suga’s treatment of this gender-related issue by examining his personal interviews with the media and press reporters in his cabinet. The study finds that Suga falls short of adopting an emotive and rapport style of speech which in turn, fails to attract listeners’ and voters’ support. Keywords: Emotion, Gender, Rapport, Speech style, Japan 1. Introduction Since the post-war period, Japan has been trying to address the controversial issue of gender roles in Japanese society. One particular focus has targeted the state of women in politics and government at the national and local levels.

Presentation of the Stars4Media Initiative EURAGORA EURAGORA is an exclusive project of EFE (Spanish news agency) and LUSA (Portuguese news agency). The operational team was constituted by three people from each agency (one editorial, one commercial&marketing, and one multimedia), supported by another 10 mentors, including the directors and the national correspondents in both countries. Team’s Both agencies decided to choose young or relatively junior professionals, with different backgrounds and skills, to lead presentation the three mini-teams. Gender equality was taken into account – in fact, there were more women than men on the lead. The multidisciplinary approach was the added value of this common project. Both agencies decided to subdivide the team in three smaller groups – one for editorial aspects, another for commercial&marketing, and a third for technical aspects. Initiative’s summary EURAGORA is a project of Iberian nature with European scope, that designed a model of cross-border virtual debates on topics of broader interest. The subject chosen for the pilot debate was “Tourism in times of covid-19”, subdivided in two topics: "Security, what do consumers expect, how do industry, governments, the European Union respond?” and "Reinvention and opportunities: sun and beach / urban and cultural / rural tourism". This choice resulted from the huge impact this pandemic is having in Tourism globally, but especially in both Spain and Portugal, as countries much dependent on that economic sector. The Spanish and Portuguese government responsible for Tourism, the European commissioner with responsibility for the Internal Market (and Tourism), Thierry Breton and the European commissioner Elisa Ferreira were speakers in the debates, among almost 20 participants, representing international organizations, European institutions, national governments, regional and local authorities, enterprises, and civil society.

Who Set the Narrative? Assessing the Influence of Chinese Media in News Coverage of COVID-19 in 30 African Countries The size of China’s State-owned media’s operations in Africa has grown significantly since the early 2000s. Previous research on the impact of increased Sino-African mediated engagements has been inconclusive. Some researchers hold that public opinion towards China in African nations has been improving because of the increased media presence. Others argue that the impact is rather limited, particularly when it comes to affecting how African media cover China- related stories. This paper seeks to contribute to this debate by exploring the extent to which news media in 30 African countries relied on Chinese news sources to cover China and the COVID-19 outbreak during the first half of 2020. By computationally analyzing a corpus of 500,000 news stories, I show that, compared to other major global players (e.g. Reuters, AFP), content distributed by Chinese media (e.g. Xinhua, China Daily, People’s Daily) is much less likely to be used by African news organizations, both in English and French speaking countries. The analysis also reveals a gap in the prevailing themes in Chinese and African media’s coverage of the pandemic. The implications of these findings for the sub-field of Sino-African media relations, and the study of global news flows is discussed. Keywords: China-Africa, Xinhua, news agencies, computational text analysis, big data, intermedia agenda setting Beginning in the mid-2010s, Chinese media began to substantially increase their presence in many African countries, as part of China’s ambitious going out strategy that covered a myriad of economic activities, including entertainment, telecommunications and news content (Keane, 2016).

Energy in Jordan A Youth Perspective Position Paper A joint project between Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Germanwatch and the Written by: Green Generation Foundation Amjad Khashman Kareem Shukri Qusai Al-Abbassi Mohammad Aliwat Ehab Al-Amleh Sewar Taweel Safa Al-Momani Sarah Haddadin Leen Baddar Yousef Awawdeh “Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the leaders of today […] Young men and women like you are bringing new energy, creativity and dynamism to labor markets, to schools, to universities like this one [University of Jordan], to government, and – I hope – to diplomacy and international relations.” - UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon in Amman 2016 - [LW1] The impacts of climate change can already be felt across the world and are becoming more severe as the global average temperature rises. Countries all over the world are engaged in a race against time to tackle the global climate crisis. Limiting global warming implies reconsidering almost all elements of our daily life, most of which are connected to the energy sector: water, food, buildings, transportation, global trade, etc. The energy sector is the largest source of global greenhouse gas emissions through its burning of fossil fuels to generate electricity, produce heat or power engines, which directly causes climate change. However, as technologies rapidly improve and prices drop, many renewable energy options have emerged as an alternative to fossil fuels. Promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency is now an important part of the international climate debate and national energy policy in many countries, both of which are aimed at slowing down climate change.
