. More than 25,000 children each year in our outpatient clinic, for a Volume total of 96,000 patient visits. In addition to well-child check-ups, we care for children with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and sickle-cell disease.

Our Mission to initiate, fund and develop special programs and to act as an advocate for children and their families within Bellevue Hospital (BHC). Our programs: . help ease fear, pain, and other difficult aspects of hospitalization . help abused or neglected children cope, recover and heal . advance language and social development among children at risk of delay . nurture children and teens hospitalized for psychiatric reasons . provide early evaluation and intervention for children with delays

One of the greatest gifts we can give a child is a love of reading, and it is never too early to begin. Reach Out and Read makes books and parent Reach Out & counseling a routine part of pediatric care, starting at a baby’s six month check-up! Reach Out and Read encourages reading aloud as a regular, joyful Read home activity that can improve language development, parent child interactions and school success.

The American Academy of Pediatrics calls Child Life services an essential component of pediatric care. Child life specialists provide emotional Child Life and support for families, and encourage development of children and Development adolescents facing a broad range of challenging experiences, particularly those related to health care and hospitalization.

The Frances L. Loeb Center provides comprehensive medical and Child Protection psychosocial intervention to child victims of abuse and neglect and their families in a safe haven with special interview rooms where a child can be and interviewed be a trained expert while people from other agencies observe Development through one-way glass. This prevents a child from reliving an ordeal more times than necessary.

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit is a temporary home where Child and 3-18 year-olds find structure, routines and activities that promote Adolescent behavioral, emotional and cognitive growth. These opportunities to have positive, corrective emotional experiences prevent regression Psychiatry and self-destructive behavior.

Video Children from poor homes are at the greatest risk for entering school without the foundation necessary to succeed. VIP videotapes parents Interaction and children engaging in play. A developmental specialist reviews the Project tapes with the parents to improve cognitive, language and social development. Results prove a 3 to 6 month advancement in ability to learn and socialize.

Autism & 1 in 88 children is estimated to have an autism spectrum disorder Developmental (ASD), and other of developmental disabilities that cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges.
