    # 2021/17 dschungel https://jungle.world/artikel/2021/17/die-poproboter Die Geschichte der von der Band Der Plan erdachten Musikroboter Die Poproboter Von Johannes Creutzer 1989 fasste die Band Der Plan einen Entschluss: sich selbst überflüssig zu machen. Inspiriert von den Residents kreierten sie eine aus Robotern bestehende Band – das dazugehörige Album erschien erst kürzlich, 32 Jahre später. Pop ist seit langem die ständige, nur ein klein wenig variierte Wiederkehr des Immergleichen. Die Popindustrie verkauft ihre Produkte dennoch immer als »Neuheiten«. Nirgendwo wird diese einfache, aber weitreichende Erkenntnis über das Immergleiche deutlicher als in den diversen Castingformaten wie »American Idol« oder dessen hiesigem Pendant »Deutschland sucht den Superstar«: Alljährlich werden mehrere neue »Talente« gekürt, die ihre Befähigung durch den Vortrag von Popklassikern unter Beweis gestellt haben. Zur Belohnung dürfen sie meist zumindest ein Album mit Songs aus der Konserve aufnehmen, bevor sie wahlweise wieder in ihrem Alltag verschwinden oder in andere Formaten des Reality-TV weitergereicht werden. Und weil sich immer genug Menschenmaterial findet, das allergrößte Hoffnungen auf die eigene Verwertbarkeit setzt, können immer neue Superstars aus der Retorte geschaffen werden. Der einzelne Musiker, der im Beispiel natürlich höchstens Interpret ist, wird so nicht nur austauschbar, sondern in der Konsequenz auch überflüssig. Bereits auf dem sehr experimentellen Debütalbum »Geri Reig« von 1980 waren die musikalischen Einflüsse von Kraftwerk und The Residents auf Der Plan unverkennbar. Selbst nannten sie ihre Musik »elektronische Schlager«. In der Musikindustrie ist diese Form der Verwertung keineswegs neu. Als Kommentar dazu und zur fortschreitenden Technologisierung wollten sich die Musiker der Düsseldorfer Band Der Plan 1989 selbst überflüssig machen.

Minute details of old and new songs of various genres are sliced and dissected, their rhythmic and melodic elements carefully analyzed and cataloged to be recombined into a new, unpredictable yet classic sound. Performing live electronics together since early 2000s – anywhere from art galleries to grimy warehouse raves and various traditional music venues – they have proven to be an undeniable and highly versatile force in the Chicago music scene. Moment Sound does not have a static "sound". Instead, the focus is on the aesthetic of innovation rooted in tradition – a meeting point of the past and the future – the sound of the moment.

    4. Northern England 1. Progress in Hell Northern England was both the center of the European industrial revolution and the birthplace of industrial music. From the early nineteenth century, coal and steel works fueled the economies of cities like Manchester and She!eld and shaped their culture and urban aesthetics. By 1970, the region’s continuous mandate of progress had paved roads and erected buildings that told 150 years of industrial history in their ugly, collisive urban planning—ever new growth amidst the expanding junkyard of old progress. In the BBC documentary Synth Britannia, the narrator declares that “Victorian slums had been torn down and replaced by ultramodern concrete highrises,” but the images on the screen show more brick ruins than clean futurescapes, ceaselessly "ashing dystopian sky- lines of colorless smoke.1 Chris Watson of the She!eld band Cabaret Voltaire recalls in the late 1960s “being taken on school trips round the steelworks . just seeing it as a vision of hell, you know, never ever wanting to do that.”2 #is outdated hell smoldered in spite of the city’s supposed growth and improve- ment; a$er all, She!eld had signi%cantly enlarged its administrative territory in 1967, and a year later the M1 motorway opened easy passage to London 170 miles south, and wasn’t that progress? Institutional modernization neither erased northern England’s nineteenth- century combination of working-class pride and disenfranchisement nor of- fered many genuinely new possibilities within culture and labor, the Open Uni- versity notwithstanding. In literature and the arts, it was a long-acknowledged truism that any municipal attempt at utopia would result in totalitarianism.

    Immersion Into Noise Critical Climate Change Series Editors: Tom Cohen and Claire Colebrook The era of climate change involves the mutation of systems beyond 20th century anthropomorphic models and has stood, until recent- ly, outside representation or address. Understood in a broad and critical sense, climate change concerns material agencies that im- pact on biomass and energy, erased borders and microbial inven- tion, geological and nanographic time, and extinction events. The possibility of extinction has always been a latent figure in textual production and archives; but the current sense of depletion, decay, mutation and exhaustion calls for new modes of address, new styles of publishing and authoring, and new formats and speeds of distri- bution. As the pressures and re-alignments of this re-arrangement occur, so must the critical languages and conceptual templates, po- litical premises and definitions of ‘life.’ There is a particular need to publish in timely fashion experimental monographs that redefine the boundaries of disciplinary fields, rhetorical invasions, the in- terface of conceptual and scientific languages, and geomorphic and geopolitical interventions. Critical Climate Change is oriented, in this general manner, toward the epistemo-political mutations that correspond to the temporalities of terrestrial mutation. THROBBING GRISTLE ROUGH TRADE EAST EVENT – 1 NOV CHRIS CARTER MODULAR PERFORMANCE, PLUS Q&A AND SIGNING 40th ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEBUT ALBUM THE SECOND ANNUAL REPORT Throbbing Gristle have announced a Rough Trade East event on Wednesday 1 November which will see Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti in conversation, and Chris Carter performing an improvised modular set. The set will be performed predominately on prototypes of a brand new collaboration with Tiptop Audio. Chris Carter has been working with Tiptop Audio on the forthcoming Tiptop Audio TG-ONE Eurorack module, which includes two exclusive cards of Throbbing Gristle samples. Chris Carter has curated the sounds from his personal sonic archive that spans some 40 years. Card one consists of 128 percussive sounds and audio snippets with a second card of 128 longer samples, pads and loops. The sounds have been reworked and revised, modified and mangled by Carter to give the user a unique Throbbing Gristle sounding palette to work wonders with. In addition to the TG themed front panel graphics, the module features customised code developed in collaboration with Chris Carter. In addition, there will be a Throbbing Gristle 40th Anniversary Q&A event at the Rough Trade Shop in New York with Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, date to be announced. The Rough Trade Event coincides with the first in a series of reissues on Mute, set to start on the 40th anniversary of their debut album release, The Second Annual Report. On 3 November 2017 The Second Annual Report, presented as a limited edition white vinyl release in the original packaging and also on double CD, and 20 Jazz Funk Greats, on green vinyl and double CD, will be released, along with, The Taste Of TG: A Beginner’s Guide to Throbbing Gristle with an updated track listing that will include ‘Almost A Kiss’ (from 2007’s Part Two: Endless Not).

As a manifestation of the era’s “industrial” culture, moreover, the work of SRL artists Mark Pauline and Eric Werner was often conceived in collaboration with industrial musicians like Monte Cazazza and Graeme Revell, and all of whom shared a common interest in the same influences. One such influence was the novel Crash by English author J. G. Ballard, and which in turn revealed the ultimate direction in which all of these artists sensed society to be heading: towards a world in which sex itself has fallen under the mechanical demiurge.     2007-10-31 11:02 CET Einstürzende Neubauten (DE) 26 april - Stockholm, Berns 27 april - Göteborg, Trädgår'n I närmare 30 år har avantgardisterna Einstürzende Neubauten överröst oss med industriella tongångar och med första skivan på eget bolag, "Alles Wieder Offen", har de gjort ett av sina allra bästa album. Skivan spelades in under 200 dagar i bandets egen studio och finansierades av fans som har prenumererat på exklusiva skivor, webcasts mm via bandets hemsida www.neubauten.org. 2000 års "Silence is Sexy" fick oss kanske att tro att bandet hade lugnat ner sig och kanske till och med blivit tystare, men allt det ställs nu på ända. Bandet tar sitt uttryck vidare, använder både en stråkkvartett och konventionella instrument, givetvis vid sidan av sina hembyggda instrumentkreationer. 1981 släppte bandet första albumet "Kollaps", som sägs ha spelats in i ett hålrum under en motorväg i Berlin, och raserade alla konventioner med oljud, metalliska rytmer och avgrundsvrål. Det är ett banbrytande och samtidigt svårlyssnat album, men redan här förklarade Neubauten krig mot alla konventionella sätt att lyssna på musik och blev förgrundsfigurer i en ny våg av industriella band. Instrumenten stals från byggarbetsplatser, skrotupplag och järnaffärer. De spelade på stålfjädrar, metallrör, tryckluftsborrar, hammare, sågar och ostämda gitarrer, allt toppat med Blixa Bargelds hårresande skrik och feberaktigt apokalyptiska texter. Publiken blev lika delar chockerad, förbryllad och fascinerad. "Halber Mensch" (1985) och "Haus der Lüge" (1989) blev två milstolpar som än idag rankas som verkliga klassiker. På industripionjärernas senare skivor har de lugnat ner sig betydligt och har en mer konstnärlig och intellektuell framtoning, men det extrema och experimentella står ännu i centrum och de hittar ständigt nya sätt att förnya sig.
