4. ANALISIS DATA 4.1 Gambaran Umum Sasaran Penelitian 4.1.1 4. ANALISIS DATA 4.1 Gambaran Umum Sasaran Penelitian 4.1.1. On The Run Tour II London. Beberapa karya musik seperti Bonnie and Clyde (2002), Crazy in Love (2003), dan Drunk in Love (2013) menjadi karya kolaborasi yang telah dinikmati berbagai kalangan masyarakat. Selain itu, Beyonce dan JAY-Z juga telah melakukan beberapa konser bersama seperti On The Run Tour (2014), dan OTR II (2018). Gambar 4.1. Foto Personil The Carters Sumber: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/beyonce-jay-z- collaborators-detail-how-everything-is-love-came-together-665914/ 38 Universitas Kristen Petra Hingga saat ini, The Carters baru merilis satu album saja yaitu “Everything is Love”. Pada album ini, Beyonce menaruh tema cinta dan kehidupan dengan ungkapan terkenal, “when life gives you lemon, make some lemonade”. I was given lemons and I made Lemonade”. Pada suatu wawancara eksklusif yang dilakukan iHeartRadio JAY-Z mengatakan, “4:44 is a song that I wrote, and it’s the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album. And I woke up, literally at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 AM, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.” Profil Anggota The Carters 4.1.2.1. Ia mengeluarkan album berjudul I am… Namun beberapa yayasan yang telah tercatat Beyoncé sumbang adalah American Foundation for AIDS research, Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Feeding America, Food Bank for New York City, GEMS, Global Poverty Project, Keep A Child Alive project, Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, Music Rising, Stand up

  • Midnight Special Songlist
west coast music Midnight Special Please find attached the Midnight Special song list for your review. SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Dance etc) FOUR WEEKS in advance prior to your event so that we can confirm that the band will be able to perform the song(s) and that we are able to locate sheet music. In some cases where sheet music is not available or an arrangement for the full band is need- ed, this gives us the time needed to properly prepare the music and learn the material. Clients are not obligated to send in a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and avoided. Recently, we’ve noticed in increase in cli- ents customizing what the band plays and doesn’t play with very specific detail. If you de- sire the highest degree of control (allowing the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), we ask for a minimum of 100 requests. We want you to keep in mind that the band is quite good at reading the room and choosing songs that best connect with your guests. The more specific/selective you are, know that there is greater chance of losing certain song medleys, mashups, or newly released material the band has.

  • Music Video As Black Art
IN FOCUS: Modes of Black Liquidity: Music Video as Black Art The Unruly Archives of Black Music Videos by ALESSANDRA RAENGO and LAUREN MCLEOD CRAMER, editors idway through Kahlil Joseph’s short fi lm Music Is My Mis- tress (2017), the cellist and singer Kelsey Lu turns to Ishmael Butler, a rapper and member of the hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces, to ask a question. The dialogue is inaudible, but an intertitle appears on screen: “HER: Who is your favorite fi lm- Mmaker?” “HIM: Miles Davis.” This moment of Black audiovisual appreciation anticipates a conversation between Black popular cul- ture scholars Uri McMillan and Mark Anthony Neal that inspires the subtitle for this In Focus dossier: “Music Video as Black Art.”1 McMillan and Neal interpret the complexity of contemporary Black music video production as a “return” to its status as “art”— and specifi cally as Black art—that self-consciously uses visual and sonic citations from various realms of Black expressive culture in- cluding the visual and performing arts, fashion, design, and, obvi- ously, the rich history of Black music and Black music production. McMillan and Neal implicitly refer to an earlier, more recogniz- able moment in Black music video history, the mid-1990s and early 2000s, when Hype Williams defi ned music video aesthetics as one of the single most important innovators of the form. Although it is rarely addressed in the literature on music videos, the glare of the prolifi c fi lmmaker’s infl uence extends beyond his signature lumi- nous visual style; Williams distinguished the Black music video as a creative laboratory for a new generation of artists such as Arthur Jafa, Kahlil Joseph, Bradford Young, and Jenn Nkiru.

  • The Life & Rhymes of Jay-Z, an Historical Biography
ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: THE LIFE & RHYMES OF JAY-Z, AN HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY: 1969-2004 Omékongo Dibinga, Doctor of Philosophy, 2015 Dissertation directed by: Dr. Barbara Finkelstein, Professor Emerita, University of Maryland College of Education. Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the life and ideas of Jay-Z. It is an effort to illuminate the ways in which he managed the vicissitudes of life as they were inscribed in the political, economic cultural, social contexts and message systems of the worlds which he inhabited: the social ideas of class struggle, the fact of black youth disempowerment, educational disenfranchisement, entrepreneurial possibility, and the struggle of families to buffer their children from the horrors of life on the streets. Jay-Z was born into a society in flux in 1969. By the time Jay-Z reached his 20s, he saw the art form he came to love at the age of 9—hip hop— become a vehicle for upward mobility and the acquisition of great wealth through the sale of multiplatinum albums, massive record deal signings, and the omnipresence of hip-hop culture on radio and television. In short, Jay-Z lived at a time where, if he could survive his turbulent environment, he could take advantage of new terrains of possibility. This dissertation seeks to shed light on the life and development of Jay-Z during a time of great challenge and change in America and beyond. • 1 When Mars and Venus Collide
1 When Mars and Venus Collide: The Struggle for Power and Respect in Romance as told by The Carters In the wake of the recent public reconciliation of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s marriage in their latest joint project, Everything is Love, we are reminded yet again of the cultural supremacy of The Carters as they continue to place themselves as the ‘power couple’ we can base our understandings of love and relationships upon. While this current project lives on a cloud of renewed trust through forgiveness, it is still fresh in our mind the first gauntlet that was thrown by Beyonce through her hallmark Lemonade project, and its effect on our perception of The Carters and their place in our culture. Renowned as an aesthetic and cultural tour de force, Beyoncé’s visual album, Lemonade is an exposition of the emotional hardships women undergo in romantic relationships. The pop culture relevance of Lemonade is rooted in its ability to give rhetorical form to the experiences of women in relationships, thus validating and supporting these experiences. Specifically, Beyoncé shows the struggle for power and respect that often takes place in heterosexual romantic relationships is rooted in a patriarchal model of love and romance. In this article I briefly analyze several poems from Lemonade that most saliently display its themes of love, womanhood, and the struggle for power and respect in relationships. To supplement my analysis I reference Bell Hooks’s book, All About Love, because of its explicit discussion of the shifting state of power within male/female romantic relationships.
