5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (11) Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. (12) Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

NICE TO MEET YOU GETTING TO KNOW YOU Welcome! What is a quirky or unusual fear that you have?

FROM THE SUMMARY OF THIS WEEKS SERMON What did He say? What is the scripture telling us?

How did Pastor Jim relate the scripture to our lives?

MATTHEW 5:10-12 IN THE WORD A recipe for disaster Read Matthew 5:3-12

If we are continuing to grow spiritually we should start to see the world from a different lens than what is considered normal.

John MacArthur says "Those who live out the will be

persecuted--the more a person lives for Christ, the more likely the

world will react negatively. To whatever degree a person fulfills the

first seven Beatitudes he is likely to experience the eighth."

Are the Beattitudes a recipe for life and what comes out the oven?

What is different about this be attitude than all the others and what does it mean?

Is it significant that the first and the last Be attitude have the same outcome "for there's is the kingdom of heaven"? How do these two beattitudes relate?

WHO DOES THIS IMPACT? ALL You talking to me? 2 TIM 3:12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ will be persecuted,

John 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you: A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also

persecute you.

What should we expect to see in our lives if we live out Jesuss'

commands?

What people will never see persecution from the world?

What are some ways you avoid persecution?

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF LIVING THE BEATTITUDES GOD HAS A WONDERFUL PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE, RIGHT? The side effects Take a look at who Jesus says "there is no one greater born may include the from a woman." following: Matt 11:11 Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

What is his worldly reward for living a faithful life?

Matthew 14:4 because John had been saying to him, It is not lawful

for you to have her.

Matthew 14:10 He sent and had John beheaded in the prison, and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.

What does it mean to be persecuted for "righteousness sake"?

2 How does the world and false teachers contrast what the says about living a life right with GOD? i.e. prosperity preachers

WHAT DOES PERSECUTION LOOK LIKE? "OFF WITH HIS HEAD" Not all persecution Matt 5:11 Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute is the same you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

Some saints are called to the ultimate sacrifice and give up their lives to serve GOD. Most of us will not experience this, but what does Jesus tell us to expect?

What does it mean to be reviled?

What devastation have you seen when people "utter all kinds of evil falsely"?

Have you been surprised when this happened to you, and how did you respond? How do you wish you responded?

THE OFFENSIVE MESSAGE OF THE "NO POLITICS OR RELIGION AT THE DINNER TABLE" The tolerant world Proverbs 29:27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, will not tolerate but one whose way is straight is an abomination to the wicked. truth. Sharing can be offensive, the gospel threatens a sinful person's lifestyle and confronts how they have placed themselves as god in their own life. We see that John and Jesus both called for a rejection of worldly lifestyles and both were persecuted for the truth.

Matthew 3:2 Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying,

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

We are called to do the same in gentleness and kindness.

1 Peter 3:15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect

Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of

the age.

Who are you praying for to receive salvation?

What can you do to overcome your apprehension of sharing the

gospel?

THE REWARDS ARE BEYOND THIS WORLD! THE BEAUTY OF IT ALL The rewards are Matt 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, immediate and last for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. for all eternity!

Luke 6:23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.

Romans 8:17 and if children, then heirsì heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

The Greek word for "Blessed" in Greek used here is makarios, and is an

adjective maening, "happy or blissful." What does this mean to us that are trying to live out these beattitudes?

What are the earthly and heavenly rewards for living out the be attitudes?

ADDING IT ALL TOGETHER SUMMARY The order! One way I look at these scriptures is from the view of a new believer.

Blessed are the poor in spirit. - When we receive faith, we are humble Blessed are those who mourn - We mourn over sins we have committed Blessed are the meek - We begin to learn the truth through humility Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness - the Holy Spirit works in our lives and causes change in our hearts Blessed are the merciful - we begin to have mercy as it was shown to us Blessed are the pure in heart - our lives are purged of the impurities Blessed are the peacemakers - we find , mercy, patience with others through the Holy Spirt allowing peace in our lives and relationships. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake - we bravely stand up for truth and share the good news, even when we know it will cost us.

I pray for all of us that these blessing will fill our lives as we glorify our Lord!
