The learning, growth and development of my skill set in this area begins with exposure to the Silva Method, which was then called Silva Mind Control, in my pre-teens as Jose da Silva toured the nation’s campuses with mind control training targeting study habits and test taking. Those simple study and test taking skills generalized to other areas of my life as they are tools found within normative human behavior. I thought all adults thought like this. We will more fully explore the naturalness of hypnosis and hypnotic experiences over this course of study. How do we learn? How do we find the most delightful experience of living possible? Psychology education places hypnosis into the realm of cognitive behavioral science. My practice of hypnosis is a more humanistic-transpersonal application of human capacity in that it contains multi-cultural spiritual and transpersonal components that transcend the limitations of Western behaviorism and material monism. I thank all the people who have educated me about the many things by different names that are all built upon the same innate human capacity for wisdom, prudent choices, mature goal setting and practical applications of time. I am a spiritual monist in that I believe all things come from a intelligence that is always creative and never competitive in spirit. I am an animist in the view that nature is minded and I am a part of a creative thinking substance from which all things emerge. The thinking substance is always creative and never competitive in spirit, so it is important to dwell upon those things which we desire. That which is held clearly in our hearts, minds and body tend to manifest in our lives through our applied efforts in thought and behavior. The natural powers of your own mind can serve you and the world around you to your best capacities through the basic skills of hypnosis. You will find that these methods are familiar to you as you already use them every day, even if you are not consciously paying attention to it. Welcome to a study of how to relax fully, engage the indwelling spark of creativity that resides inside you, and formulate effective suggestions that guide the process as you become more and more effective in setting and achieving your goals. They are musicians from St. Louis of long standing and we are going to talk today about their early lives and also about their experiences on the music scene in St. Louis. CORTINOVIS: First, I'll ask you a few questions, gentlemen. Did you ever play on any of the Mississippi riverboats, the J.S, The St. Paul or the President? FINNEY: I never did play on any of those name boats, any of those that you just named, Mrs. Cortinovis, but I was a member of the St. Louis Crackerjacks and we played on kind of an unknown boat that went down the river to Cincinnati and parts of Kentucky. But I just can't think of the name of the boat, because it was a small boat. Do you need the name of the boat? CORTINOVIS: No. I don't need the name of the boat. FINNEY: Mrs. Cortinovis, this is Martin McKay who is a name drummer who played with all the big bands from Count Basie to Duke Ellington.

Because in the old days August the First was La Lughnasa, the feast day of the pagan god, Lugh; and the days and weeks of harvesting that followed were called the Festival of Lughnasa. But Aunt Kate – she was a national schoolteacher and a very proper woman --she said it would be sinful to christen an inanimate object with any kind of name, not to talk of a pagan god. So we just called it Marconi because that was the name emblazoned on the set.

Despite their different forms and eras, my subjects—the French playwright Molière (1622-1673), the English novelist Jane Austen (1775-1817), and the American screenwriter Nora Ephron (1941-2012)—arguably participate in the romantic comedy genre, and my analysis of their work seeks to reveal both genre mechanics and the nature of sociocultural evaluation. I suggest that Molière did indeed participate in the romantic comedy genre, and it is both gender politics and the high cultural prestige of his work (and the low cultural prestige of romantic comedy) that prevents this classification. I also suggest that popular interpretations of Austen’s work are driven by romanticised analysis (inseparable from popular culture), rather than the values implicit in the work, and that Ephron’s clever and conscious use of postmodern techniques is frequently overlooked. Further, my exegesis shows how parody provides a productive methodology for critically exploring genre, and an appropriate one, given that genre involves repetition—or parody—of conventions and their relationship to form.
