Like PAGE 8 a three-legged stool of prejudice, when one falls, the rest follow.”—Tom Carpenter, co-chair of the Forum on the Military Chaplaincy Attorney Tom Carpenter, a former Marine, has been fighting against LGBT discrimination in the U.S. Armed Forces for more than two decades. He is the co-chair of the Forum on the Military Chaplaincy, established around 2005 and made up of 10 to 15 retired chaplains, veterans and ministers. “We were set up because, in 1993, we found out that the largest resistance to the lifting of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ [DADT] came from military chaplains,” said Carpenter. “We were being told that gay and lesbian soldiers were going to their chaplains to talk about their sexual orientation and some of the chaplains were turning them into their commanders. We wrote a white paper that led to strengthening of confidentiality within the military chaplaincy.” The Forum worked to repeal DADT using real-life stories to personalize the fight—which was key to getting public and Congressional attention—and went up against conservative military chaplains who were backed by hate groups such as The Family Research Council. But Carpenter, who compares DADT to post-integration’s farce of “Separate But Equal,” says the Forum on the Military Chaplaincy logo.

Over the summer Josh flew to Germany to visit his dad, grandparents and cousins for a couple weeks. Typically every summer he goes to Germany, but this summer was his favorite because he got to do many different kinds of life things like try new food that is special to Germany. He also traveled to Niagara Falls for Labor Day weekend, New York City, Colorado and New Orleans. His favorite place to travel during Michaela Sturm - 10 summer is tropical places like Hawaii. Haley Savastano is a sophomore at Hamburg During summer Josh loves to eat things like pasta salad. He also enjoys his favorite flavor Area High School who is in L.I.S.A and of ice cream, coffee. Summer is Josh’s favorite season because he really dislikes the cold. Wilderness club. Haley enjoys watch soccer, While at the beach, he enjoyed being able play volleyball with his friends and family. One football and baseball and her favorite soccer of his favorite things about summer besides the weather is that he gets to hangout with his team is the Philadelphia Union, and favorite friends and not have to worry about school. baseball team is the Phillies, and her favorite Josh really enjoys travel and explore the world. He also loves to see all the different football team is the Eagles. In her free time she cultures and different kinds of people.
