Last week, interagency assessment teams identified 3,633 IDPs who will receive humanitarian assistance in the coming days in Laghman and Nangarhar provinces. Across the East, 12,929 IDPs received cash assistance for winterisation, agriculture, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). 6,060 returnees, IDPs and people from host communities were reached with emergency outpatient health services. This week, a total of 5,521 children were vaccinated for polio and measles. 247 people (115 women and 132 children) from who have been displaced to city, Nangarhar province continued to receive life-saving humanitarian assistance. North: Ongoing fighting displaced people in Clashes between the ANSF and an NSAG continued in , Faryab and Jawzjan provinces. Initial reports indicate that ongoing fighting displaced some families from Pashtun Kot, Khwja Sabz Posh and Almar districts to city in Faryab province. Also, 15 civilians including one child were killed and wounded as a result of the ongoing fighting between an NSAG and the ANSF in , Bilcheragh and Dawlat Abad districts, Faryab province. In the last weeks, control of roads connecting Mazar-e-Sharif to Shiberghan and Andkhoy to Maymana remained contested. Interagency assessment teams verified 1,057 people displaced by conflict in Balkh, Faryab, Samangan, Sar-e-Pul and Jawzjan provinces. 455 IDPs received humanitarian assistance in Faryab province. 9,394 people in protracted displacement received assistance to help them through the winter in Balkh, Faryab, Sar-e-Pul and Jawzjan. South: Over 2,000 people displaced in Hilmand province Fighting between the ANSF and an NSAG continued in Hilmand, and Uruzgan provinces. According to initial reports, ongoing fighting displaced 2,450 people in the Surkhdoz area in Nawa-e-Barakzaiy district, Hilmand province on 19 January. On 23 January, a health worker in , Kandahar was reportedly severely wounded by an improvised explosive device while on the road and later died in hospital. An interagency assessment in Shah Joi district, was delayed as road access to different villages was blocked by heavy snowfall. Therefore, the team returned to Qalat to assess accessible areas with plans to return to Shah Joi once road conditions permit. Last week, 3,107 IDPs affected by conflict and natural disasters received humanitarian assistance in Hilmand and Kandahar provinces. Following successful access negotiations with an NSAG, humanitarian assessment teams have been granted access to affected areas in Zabul province; however, their work has been temporarily delayed due to heavy snowfall and road closures. West: Delivery of humanitarian aid interrupted due to road closure Harsh weather and snowfall continued to limit road movements from Hirat to Badghis and travel to and within . Despite these challenges, 17,355 people received cash assistance in hard-to-reach areas in and 2,670 IDPs received cash assistance to help them through the winter in Badghis, Ghor and Hirat provinces. On 24 January, heavy rains across Hirat province reportedly affected a number of areas. During the reporting period, joint inter-agency assessment teams identified 98 people in need of emergency assistance in Hirat province. Additional assessment teams have been deployed to affected areas. Centre: 10,920 people received winter assistance Last week, 10,920 people received assistance for winter in Bamyan, Daykundi, Kabul, Khost, Paktika and Parwan provinces. Some, 273 IDPs received cash assistance in . Need assessments of IDPs were ongoing in Kabul, Khost, Logar, Paktika and Paktya provinces. Last week, heavy snowfall resulted in the death of six civilians in Wormamay district in . Seven people died in Logar due to cold weather and heavy snowfall and also two civilians were killed in in due to avalanches.

On 23 January, a polio worker covering Jaji district in Paktya province was reportedly killed. Since the beginning of 2020, attacks on healthcare reportedly caused the deaths of two health workers and affected 17 health facilities.
