The Civil War has begun and superheroes are forced to make a choice: register with the government or face incarceration. Ms. Marvel has chosen the former. Ms. Marvel leads a S.H.I.E.L.D. team to arrest unregistered superhero the Prowler, also known as Hobie Brown. Their mission is a success and the team returns to base. The next morning, Simon Williams visits Carol at her apartment, reminding her of their debriefing with Iron Man. They fly to Stark Tower and re- meet Julia Carpenter, now operating under the identity "Arachne." In the debriefing, Iron Man assigns their new missions: Arachne will go after Max Coleridge/The Shroud while Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man will search for the teenage superheroine Araña. Before Ms. Marvel leaves for her mission, Iron Man asks her about Captain America's whereabouts, and she claims she does not know. Ms. Marvel remembers her earlier conversation with Captain America. He wanted her to support his anti-registration movement, but Carol had decided to register, claiming she was doing her duty as an American citizen. Cap says she is obeying an unjust law that disregards civil liberties, but Carol replies people are afraid and the Superhuman Registration Act will make them feel safer. Meanwhile, at Ryker's Island, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent interrogates Hobie Brown about who informed him of S.H.I.E.L.D. presence in his neighborhood. The agent even threatens Hobie's wife with incarceration and Hobie is forced to admit Arachne was his informant. Arachne visits The Shroud, her boyfriend, at his apartment. The Shroud advises her to remain at Iron Man's faction lest her daughter will be in danger at the same time S.H.I.E.L.D. forces storm the penthouse. Although the Shroud claims Arachne was about to arrest him, Arachne chooses to help the Shroud escape, both becoming fugitives. Later, after an evening of patrolling, Carol and Simon go to a fast-food restaurant to have dinner, the same restaurant Anya Corazon works at. A bunch of robbers attempts to attack the customers, but Carol and Simon neutralize them, just as Anya puts on her Araña outfit before them. "Civil War" Collections Checklist. While commercial success is not always consistent from one decade to the next it is clear that the medium has been and will continue to be a cultural staple in the society of the United States. I have selected this type of popular culture for analysis precisely because of the longevity of the medium and the recent commercial success of film and television adaptations of comic book material. In this project I apply a Critical lens to selected comic book materials and apply Critical theories related to race, class, and gender in order to understand how the materials function as vehicles for ideological messages. For the project I selected five Marvel comic book characters and examined materials featuring those characters in the form of comic books, film, and television adaptations. The selected characters are Steve Rogers/Captain America, Luke Cage, Miles Morales/Spider-Man, Jean Grey, and Raven Darkholme/Mystique. Methodologically I interrogated the selected texts through the application of visual and narrative rhetorical criticism.

    Marvel Comics Avengers Chronological Appearances By Bob Wolniak ased initially on the Bob Fronczak list from Avengers Assemble and Avengers Forever websites. But unlike Mr. B Fronczak’s list (that stops about the time of Heroes Reborn) this is NOT an attempt at a Marvel continuity (harmony of Marvel titles in time within the fictional universe), but Avengers appearances in order in approx. real world release order . I define Avengers appearances as team appearances, not individual Avengers or even in some cases where several individual Avengers are together (but eventually a judgment call has to be made on some of those instances). I have included some non-Avengers appearances since they are important to a key storyline that does tie to the Avengers, but noted if they did not have a team appearance. Blue (purple for WCA & Ultimates) indicates an Avengers title , whether ongoing or limited series. I have decided that Force Works is not strictly an Avengers title, nor is Thunderbolts, Defenders or even Vision/Scarlet Witch mini- series, although each book correlates, crosses over and frequently contains guest appearances of the Avengers as a team. In those cases, the individual issues are listed. I have also decided that individual Avengers’ ongoing or limited series books are not Avengers team appearances, so I have no interest in the tedious tracking of every Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, or Hank Pym title unless they contain a team appearance or x-over . The same applies to Avengers Spotlight (largely a Hawkeye series, with other individual appearances), Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Vision, Wonder Man, Hulk, She-Hulk, Black Panther, Quicksilver, Thunderstrike, War Machine, Black Widow, Sub-Mariner, Hercules, and other such books or limited series.

The critical introduction details the literary, theoretical, and historical influences that led to the creation of my novel. Among these influences are the Star Wars original trilogy and the prequels, the historical figure of Grace O’Malley of Ireland, Audre Lorde’s concept of the female erotic as power, and romance as represented in Lois McMaster Bujold’s Shards of Honor and Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series. My introduction argues that The Pirate Queen uses the space opera genre and these influences to create a feminist representation of power and romance in the setting of the space opera, positioning femininity as a source of strength for the main protagonist, Grace O’Malley. The next portion of my thesis is my creative work, The Pirate Queen, a space opera centered around the romance between Captain Grace ‘Granuaile’ O’Malley and Captain Caleb Lewis. Dashing pirate outlaw Grace ‘Granuaile’ O’Malley travels the galaxy, fighting in the Rebellion against the Terran Republic and eluding capture by Captain Caleb Lewis of the Terran Republic’s Star Navy. Caleb and Grace are mortal enemies, the key players in the upcoming war between the Republic and Queen Elizabeth’s Rebellion.
