ON THE COVER The cover illustration is an imaginative rendition of the Ptolemy Library / Library of Alexandria in the ancient Alexandria, Egypt. The Library of Alexandria was considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The owl as a symbol of wisdom, at least in Eurocentric cultures, is said to come from the owl being a companion of Athena, the goddess of strategy. Other notable libraries in the world include the Library of Al-Qurawiyyin University in Morocco, an institution that has been in continuous use since its founding in 859 CE.
