Abstract The article discusses the monitoring of horizontal displacements of the channel of Dniester, the second largest river in Ukraine, based on topographic maps, satellite images, as well as geological, soil and quaternary sediment maps. Data pro- cessing has been carried out using the geographic information system ArcGIS. The monitoring over a 140-year period (1874– 2015) has been performed at the river’s transition from a mountainous to plain terrain on the 67 km section of the river. During this period, maximum displacements in the study area were 590–620 m. The research examines water protection zones needed for channel displacements. -

Given the historiogra- phical disproportions in the coverage of his biography, which has been reflected in relatively little attention to the early period of life and the creation of new “myths”, the periodization of main stages (milestones) of life and consistent reconstruction of biography of Casimir / Klymen- tiy Sheptytsky have been conducted. His family environment, education, worldview formation and evolution have been described, the peculiarities of his social and political activity in the re- gional societies and the Austrian parliament have been shown, the motives and circumstances of the choice of monastic life have been clarified. -

Accepted 21.12.2020 The article analyzes the military landscapes, and a special role is given to the monuments of the military group of Lviv region. The role and significance of military landscapes in the formation of the historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine, which reflects the peculiarities of the formation of modern natural conditions of its specific regions, are considered. A chronological table is formed, their classification according to the time of origin, formation and origin of military landscapes of Lviv region. Key words: military landscapes; fortifications; natural landscapes; defensive towers; defensive shafts; mounds; wall; Lviv region. Introduction Military landscapes include complexes of military origin - ancient fortified settlements and fortresses, ditches and ramparts, mounds and more. Over time, the number of landscapes of military origin becomes smaller, which gives fewer opportunities to study their impact on nature and assess their historical value (Antonyuk, 2010). It is in Ukraine that the densest network of long-term border fortifications (SFS) built between the First and Second World Wars, known as the “Stalin Line” (old border) and the “Molotov Line” (new border), has been preserved. -

TEKA 2020, Nr 2 Komisji Architektury, Urbanistyki i Studiów Krajobrazowych Oddział Polskiej Akademii Nauk w Lublinie Artistic painted decorations on the outside walls of the castles in western Ukraine Mykola Bevz https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1513-7045 [email protected] Department of Build Conservation, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Lublin University of Technology Abstract: The article describes the newfound fragments of polychrome paintings in the upper tiers of the southeastern cas- tle tower in Pomoriany (Pomorzany – in polish). The pictures are found on the outside wall of the tower. The polychrome murals are preserved in fragments. The paintings decorated the plastered walls of the at the top two levels of the tower and can be dated roughly to the 17th century. Another mural fragment, discovered on the outside of the north wall of the castle in Yazlivets, is much smaller, but with more vibrant colors. Such exterior castle walls decorating with polychrome paintings are rare in Ukraine. It is proposed to preserve and conserve these fragments of murals. Remains of polychrome art paintings are also found in other castles – in Zhovkva, Pidhirtsi, Stare Selo. Keywords: castles, painting murals, the towns of Pomoriany, Yazlivets, Zhovkva, Stare Selo, the 16−17th century. Introduction Painting mural at the exterior walls of castle buildings is a rare occurrence. The defensive function of the outside castle walls with holes cut for firing the enemy required walls to be strong and reliably thick, not decorated or painted. It became popular in recent times only, when castles lost their defensive value and turned into palace objects. -
