The day the time machine manifested in sand at Glenelg.

On Thursday 8 January 2015, five strangers appeared around a pile of silicon at the seafront, and a shape became distinct. Adelaide Symphony Orchestra mem- bers Judy Polain, Marie-Louise Slaytor and Shirni Lim played violins while Martin Butler rocked the viola. Sand sculptor Jino van Bruinessen created a TARDIS and they played Who theme. The sculpture was sheltered from inclement rain by a canopy, and had fortunately appeared above the tide line.

The single BBC channel premiered An Unearthly Child at 17.16 on 23 November 1963. The then Australian Broadcasting Commission bought Doctor Who in 1964, but censorship problems caused it to be held over to time slots after 19.30 in 1965. ABC was beaten to transmission by the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation AKTV-2 (Aukland) on 18 September 1964. On 12 January 1965, ABW-2 screened An Unearthly Child in Perth. The show was next seen on ABN-2 (Sydney, also ABC-3 ) on 15 January, ABQ-2 (Brisbane) on 22 January and ABV-2 () on 20 February. Adelaide’s ABS-2 had to wait until 15 March and Hobart (ABT-2) didn’t get the series until 18 June. Darwin got television in 1971 and ABD-6 began Fury from the Deep on 15 August. ABC has run Who every year since with the exceptions of 1976 (Adelaide only), 1981 and 1995 to 2003, excluding the Hubble Space Telescope image of Andromeda telemovie and its repeat in 1996/7. By Austin Boothey

Survival was a three day convention held at the the Chameleon Factor 68, January 1995. Novotel on Collins in Melbourne from November 25th to 17th, 1994 (Ed. 25th to 27th).

I arrived at the Novotel for the opening ceremony before 7pm on Friday 25th November, only to find out the the con had been sabotaged. How anybody could destroy (and that is exactly what happened) a convention is beyond me. I am disgusted that anyone would try (Well, only a moron would).

How did this happen, I hear you ask?

Well, apparently someone sent a fax to the Survival Committee claiming to be from Sophie Aldred. This fax, sent late in the week, claimed that Sophie cold not attend due to work commitments and was received too late to contact anyone in the UK.

The Monday before the committee were due to purchase the air tickets couldn’t be done until they knew what was going on overseas. On contacting Sophie’s agent that night, they found out that no such fax had been sent. But of course this info had come too late to be of any use. They couldn’t get any tickets in time.

But that wasn’t all.

Other guests who had been organised were: Highlights of the weekend: Katy Manning Couldn’t come due to being offered a higher paid American Con. (And you :Shakedown Premiere of an enjoyable Who can’t blame her for that). spinoff available only through Dallas Jones. Always a joy to listen to. The biggest Highlight in my opinion. Still the committee had to get on with the Con, and must be commended for the job at that they did. Anyhow, even though they had endless problems I’ll be back next year, especially if they do get to bring out Ms. Although all they had left was the usual panels, games Aldred. and videos that could be held at any local club meeting, they still remained optimistic and for this reason the con was enjoyable.
