A PLAYER WRITES WHAT PAUL HALLIDAY THOUGHT VALE OF LUNE 55 pts CARLISLE 24 pts

CARLISLE LOSE AT LUNE

Carlisle travelled to big spending Vale of Lune hoping to build on last weeks win over . Several changes from the team last week, notably with fly half Glen Weightman returning to the ten shirt after holi- day, and new signings Jared Stewart and Ali Randall making their 1st team debuts.

Traffic disruptions meant Carlisle arrived later than planned, with a shorter warm up than normal. This how- ever wasn’t to blame for the 1st half assault that took place on the Carlisle try line. After only 2 minutes, Vale winger James Curran crossed the line for 1 of his 3 tries. Vale’s game plan was obvious from the outset, as they spread the ball across the field with the hope of stretching the Carlisle defence.

A penalty for fly half Turton extended Vale’s lead, closely followed by another try for Curran, who profited from a chip ahead from Vale’s ex 7’s international , as he won the foot race to touch down.

Another chip ahead, this time Curran returning the favour to Royle, set Vale up for their third try extending Vale’s lead to 24-0. A shell shocked Carlisle were further weakened when fly half Weightman was forced off the field, still suffering from an encounter with some dodgy overseas water.

This seemed to stir Carlisle into life, as they produced their best passage of play in the game, as the unusually quiet forward pack drove towards the line. Tight head prop Tom Graham was on hand to drive over in the corner, to register Carlisle’s 1st try of the game.

Sloppy handling was a feature of Carlisle’s play all afternoon, which gifted Vale a series of tries, and their next try was no exception. Poor handling in midfield allowed Vale to capitalise, which allowed star signing Royle to feed Phil Berry who raced over for another try.

Coach Gary Hewer asked his players for more in the second half, to cut out the handling errors and to pro- duce a performance more recognisable of a Carlisle team. Carlisle delivered a much improved 2nd half show- ing, drawing the second half 19-19. Inside centre Barry Earl scored a try seven minutes after half time, which he converted.

Substitute Josh Holmes was the next Carlisle player to cross the white wash, as he powered over from close HEADLINES HALLIDAY’S range. This left Carlisle with 3 tries and the possibility of a bonus point. Carlisle began to keep the ball for more phases of possession, helped by the returning Weightman had shaken off his illness to return to the field. Carlisle were camped in the Vale 22 for long periods of the second half, constantly turning down the chance of three points in search of the bonus point fourth try. Several cynical fouls which stopped almost certain tries were unpunished by the ref, when observers, even from the Vale camp, were heard to say a yel- low card was more than justified.

Winger Karim Moualem, on the back of last week’s two try master class, crossed for a try with the last play of the game to earn Carlisle a bonus point, and something to build on for next week’s local derby with Kendal. Whilst outplayed for large periods of the game, the Carlisle players were left to ponder what might have hap- pened had their 2nd half showing been extended throughout the full game. An improved performance is re- quired next week in front of their home crowd.

FORMER CARLISLE PLAYER, NOW WITH , BARES ALL TO HALLIDAY!

At what age did you first become interested in ? Eight year old, as a junior at Carlisle.

Best player played with at Carlisle?

Best Player trained or played with ever? Tane Tuipoluto, a monster of a man to tackle in training. He plays same position and liked to learn from him and watch how he plays to pick up point.

Biggest influence? Biggest influence Rougerie as i like how he plays and I try to replicate what he does.

Best moment at Carlisle? Beating Penrith at any opportunity and making my 1st team debut as 17 year old

What has been the best advice that you have received? if you're not going all the way, then why go at all. Also as a motivation thing - proving peo- ple wrong, all those who didn’t think I’d make it any further than Carlisle.

How did it feel to sing the national anthem/represent your country? The singing wasn’t great, didn’t hit all the notes, but was a massive honour to shout it out with pride. Playing the two games, one I came off the bench v Belgium A team and the sec- ond v Belgium 1st XV. It was a great experience playing out there; we were given the li- cence to play and express ourselves and ultimately to enjoy it, which we did.

THE HALLIDAY INTERVIEW HALLIDAY THE Now for some questions about the lads:

Most skilful: Paul Halliday - heard he’s been throwing ridiculous off loads everywhere. Quickest: Tom Graham, ridiculous over 2m, and unbelievable tekkers! Slowest: Tom Graham, after 2m he can’t maintain much pace! Least like to be stuck on a Dessert Island with: Mark Barron – he would eat me. Funniest: James Clark- Never shuts up. Best Trainer: Marty Brody - he was always so dedicated and serious about every aspect of the sessions Worst Trainer: Lee Brumpton - scared I’d put him on his arse. Who do you miss the most?: I couldn’t pin it on one person. Carlisle is such a great club to start, continue and progress your rugby. and hopefully finish your rugby. Carlisle have been absolutely fantastic over my time there, and I appreciate that. so I would have to say I miss the whole club.

Carlisle have a history of being slow starters, and this season turns out to be no exception! Some might think last week was a drubbing at Powderhouse Lane, where by half time the game seemed lost. Not so - the second half gave rise to a fight back that had the faithful from the Vale wondering, with Carlisle camped for long periods in the home twenty two area. Albeit that V of L added points in the second period, it was Carlisle who won the sec- ond half! Winning the second half is not enough though, and there is a need for consis- tency. The last ten minutes was pulsating with the Lancastrians getting away with unpun- ished cynicism - and the referee deemed three Carlisle touch downs to have been held up!

In defeat it’s always the easy way out to cast blame elsewhere, but rugby is not just about what happens on the field. Loyalty is always a creditable attribute to possess and there- fore it is has been more than a little disappointing to witness the loyalty of some being tested by the dangling of carrots, with a promise of better things to come if “you join us”. It could be said that an alley cat has greater morals than representatives of some clubs who, and for no other reason than selfish partisanship, invariably get what they want.

It’s right that lads and lasses should be ambitious and Carlisle have never ever stood in the way of those who have the opportunity of a “step up”. We have had players come to us from elsewhere in the county, but at least our director of rugby has the decency to contact

relevant clubs before an approach to a player is made. How sad is it that press have a greater knowledge of what is going on before we do?

Some clubs are professional, a majority are amateur, although the latter contains a substan- tial number who apparently make illegal payments in pursuit of success. They are killing the game at community level and nothing less than an RFU enquiry into this widespread malpractice will do.

There is nothing wrong with paying players but it has to be within the rules, all members of the squad getting the same rate and covered by an RFU approved contract.

Don’t let anyone convince that all clubs abide by the rules - simply, they don’t.

MORTS’ MUMBLINGS MORTS’ Guide Dogs has been adopted as the official club charity for the current season. The Sportsman’s Dinner at the end of the season will have a new theme with the proceeds being divided between junior / youth rugby and Guide Dogs. Look out for details in due course.

Any support for Guide Dogs will be greatly appreciated.

16

We’ve seen it all now - JOHN TIFFEN found a new way to attract the fairer sex. At Tebay Services last week whilst on the way to Vale, he managed to spill his cof- fee down his front when a young lady passer by came to his aid, patting him down! Hopefully he has now recovered (not from the spillage) from all the attention! Young colt, NAT MANLEY, recovering from a broken arm sustained in training, is filling is his time by taking up refereeing, and is currently on the ELRA course. Who said Carlisle didn’t produce enough referees? Former Carlisle youngster (now just a little bit older), EUAN DOWES, has agreed to pass on some of his experience gained elsewhere in his varied career. He will be leading some skills and drills sessions with the senior squad over the next couple of weeks. CHRIS HARRIS (now Falcons) has donated his England Counties shirt to the club/ It is currently being framed for display in the club. Chris won his shirt playing for the England Counties in Belgium. Well done, and thanks Chris. Welcome to ALLY RANDALL, a front row player who has moved to the city from Portsmouth, and joins the club from United Services Portsmouth. Also new at Carlisle, making his debut last week at Vale of Lune, JARED STEW- ART. The youngster is a powerful centre and joins us from Blaydon and he has ex- perience at the Falcons Academy and also with Leeds Rhinos.

Back to the ever mounting shirt collection - LISA RITCHIE - has donated one her Scotland (she can’t help that!) shirts that she earned in last seasons Women’s . That shirt will also be displayed in the club. Pleased also to report that he stay at MP was short lived. She has resigned for the Cougars - home is where the heart is! Past club president, DAVE RAWLING, has taken delivery of a new iPad this last week. Hopefully he is a fast learner and will soon learn to open it and download messages!! Well, here’s hoping. Seen at the Falcons v Gloucester match last Sunday, apparently trying to pick up tips - DAMIAN ARMSTRONG, PAUL HALLIDAY and MATTY LITTLE. As the tickets were freebies, Gossip is at a loss to understand why TOM GRAHAM missed the trip that should have included lunch! Still, perhaps he was still full after demol- ishing the soup and sarnies after training last week!

HELP WANTED TO RAISE MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR THE “HOSPICE AT COLUMN GOSSIP HOME”. MARTIN BURNETT, ALONG WITH ANDREW JEFFERSON IS OFF TO RUN IN THE ATHENS MARATHON ON 10TH NOVEMBER. SELF DEPRACAT- ING BURNETT SAID, “YES, I AM STUPID, BUT IT’S FOR A GREAT CAUSE”. YOUR SUPPORT FOR MARTIN AND ANDREW WOULD BE GREATLY APPRE- CIATED. Best wishes to JOE ANDERSON who has been spirited away to Tynedale and has now signed for them. We will miss his drive and enthusiasm on the field, and it has to be a hope that he is not being used for purely selfish reasons by the Corbridge outfit! Read into that what you will! Two young ladies will be around and about Warwick Road this afternoon carrying out an official collection of behalf of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Please give gener- ously, your support will be greatly appreciated. Special thanks to DAVID MITCHELL and his staff from Carlisle United who looked after our grounds for a couple of weeks whilst MATT HENRY was on holiday. We’re told that BRUMMO is expected to make a full recovery from his misfortune at . A bit of rest and TLC is what’s needed apparently. The lads were heard to quip that at least he has a legitimate reason to miss training this time!

GETTING SENT OFF this season brings with it a new dimension, Until now a player sent off could continue to play until such time as their case was dealt with by the disciplinary panel. Now, a player sent off will be immediately suspended from playing all rugby and will not be able to play again until a sanction has been deter- mined by the relevant panel. This new procedure applies at all levels of the Game,

ADMISSION FEES for entry to 1st XV (and other selected) matches have been in- creased to £4. It is excellent value for an afternoon of sport and includes the match programme, and if you are a driver and not a club member, you can park your car too. Increasing costs meant we had little option other than to raise the charge. Compared to some places we visit it is a “snip”.

FREE PROGRAMME BOTTLE DRAW: there is a bottle of LIQUOR on offer as a prize with each issue of our match programme. Only one copy of the programme will contain the lucky logo that will entitle the holder of that programme to the prize. You need to find a small picture of a Guiness rugby ball hidden somewhere your programme. To claim your prize you must do so before 6.00pm on the date of the match, producing your programme for validation to either Dave Morton or Stewart Rawes

NEWCASTLE FALCONS ‘A’ will play WORCESTER ‘A’ at Warwick Road on Mon- day, 28th October at 7.00 pm. Come along and see some of the stars of the future.

SPORTSMAN’S DINNER 2014 - this season will be at The Shepherd’s Inn on FRI- DAY, 2nd MAY 2014. Please put the date in your diary and more details will be forthcoming in due course. It will be jointly organised with Guide Dogs, the pro- ceeds being split between the club and Guide Dogs.

CLUB ANNUAL DINNER & AWARDS NIGHT - this annual event will be held in the Club on Friday, 9th May 2014..

NEW GOAL POSTS have been erected on the 1st XV pitch. They were one of 50 sets made available by the RFU, along with the new post protectors. Carlisle were one of the lucky clubs to apply for kit, being another (two in one county!). The 3rd XV pitch will be furnished the original posts from 1st XV pitch.

OUR team of volunteers who man the gate and car park on match days and other occasions could do with a few more volunteers to ease the load. They do a fine job between them and special thanks to Stewart who does the organising. Interested,

YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW THAT.... KNOW LIKE TO MIGHT YOU then please get in touch with Stewart Simpson - he will be delighted to hear from you.

NEW SCOREBOARD - trialled at the end of last season, the new electronic score- board will now be in full use. Special thanks are due to Heineken whose kind spon- sorship has covered the cost of the project. Also, thanks to Stewart Rawes who has spent a lot of time programming the laptop with information to display on the scoreboard. CLUB SHOP - the amount of stock held in the club shop has been dramatically reduced, although some items do remain on the shelves. Shop opening hours are displayed on the shop door, otherwise you will now be able to buy all your club goods on line through the club shop - go to www.pitchero.com/clubs/carlislerugby/and then follow the links to O.Neills where you will find and array of club kit - new cargo shorts have been popular so far. Support O’Neills and we make money too! 18

RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION 5 Core Values of Our Game

TEAMWORK Team work is essential to our sport. We welcome all new team members and include all because working as a team enriches our lives. We play selflessly: working for the team, not for ourselves alone, both on and off the field. We take pride in our team, rely on one another and understand that each player has a part to play. We speak out if our team or sport is threatened by inappropriate words or actions RESPECT Mutual respect forms the basis of our sport. We hold in high esteem our sport, its values and traditions and earn the respect of others in the way we behave. We respect our match officials and accept our decisions. We respect opposition players and support-

ers. We value our coaches and those who run our clubs and treat clubhouses with consid- eration.

ENJOYMENT Enjoyment is the reason we play and support rugby union. We encourage players to enjoy training and playing. We use our sport to adopt a healthy lifestyle and build life skills. We safeguard our young players and help them have fun. We enjoy being part of a team and part of the rugby family. DISCIPLINE Strong discipline underpins our sport. We ensure that our sport is one of controlled physical endeavour and that we are honest and fair. We obey the laws of the game which ensure an inclusive and exciting global game. We support our disciplinary sys- tem, which protects our sport and upholds its values. We observe the sport's laws and regulations and report serious breaches. SPORTSMANSHIP Sportsmanship is the foundation upon which rugby union is built. We uphold the rugby tradition of camaraderie with teammates and opposition. We observe fair play both on and off the pitch and are generous in victory and dignified in defeat. We play to win but not at all costs and recognise both endeavour and achievement. We ensure that the wellbeing and development of individual players is central to all rugby activity

ALSO PLEASE NOTE

REFEREES are an integral part of our game. There is a severe shortage (in ) of officials throughout the county, and clubs have been warned that, unless more people come forward and take up “the whistle”, there could be a serious impact on the game. At Carlisle we have a number of senior referees and also several people who officiate at junior levels.

ETIQUETTE & CODES OF CONDUCT OF CODES & ETIQUETTE In recent years there has been an unwelcome trend of verbal abuse of referees across the country, and that is one of the reasons cited for the reduction in numbers. At Carlisle RFC we do not condone abuse of any kind, be it verbal or otherwise, and we will take all neces- sary steps to ensure that any one found to have been guilty of such conduct, and any member of club finding themselves in that position can expect a severe sanction.

The referee is a volunteer and out to enjoy their day of sport. He / she may make mistakes just as player may do. Such mistakes should not be the signal of any form of abuse di- rected at the referee, or for that matter, at anyone else. PLEASE RESPECT THE REFEREE AT ALL TIMES

THE PRESIDENT

WRITES

A very warm welcome to everyone to Warwick Road today for what I hope will be an excellent game of rugby. Rugby continues to evolve and it sometimes difficult to keep up with all the changes that are foisted upon us by both the IRB and the RFU. Nevertheless, we always seem to manage and adapt to what is expected of us. It is my special pleasure to greet Roger Wilson, the Kendal President, his com- mittee and team to Carlisle today. It is a long time since we last met at senior level (except in the cup) and I look forward to an entertaining game; but with- out wanting to sound churlish I hope they result is not in their favour! Given the activities of the last couple of weeks I believe it is about time that the RFU did something to put a stop to the unwelcome conduct of some clubs in enticing players to join them with the offer of inducements - something that is always denied but without doubt is taking place! Have a great day. Geoff Jackson—President

CAPTAIN’S CRACK

We welcome Kendal to Warwick Road today in the first of 6sixleague Cumbrian derbies. Again, like the previous twohome games, an- other team whom in my twelve years I have not played in a league fixture. They, like us have had an indifferent start to the season, two poor results on the road followed with a couple of good wins at home. We don’t read much into other results and have no doubt that they will travel up to Carlisle stronger than the trips to Wirral and Birkenhead. We are looking forward to a huge challenge from a side who have, up until very recently, been playing a couple of leagues above us. The league this year does seem to be throwing in some strange results, no more so than Kirkby beating Birkenhead Park last week. It really goes to show that there are no easy games. Who- ever turns up, wants it more and performs on the day will take the points.

Training has been excellent this week. We have talked about our intensity and leaving everything on the pitch. The lads have really put

the effort in to make sure that happens and we kick start our season today. MATCH DAY NOTES DAY MATCH

Good luck to all involved. Bobby Sherlock - Captain

NEWS Second and third XV rugby is more than a little worrying at the moment. Last week the Hornets travelled to the rejuvenated Ambleside in a Cumbria 2 league match and came home defeated by one point after an exciting and entertaining encoun- ter. It’s just as well that the Crusaders game was in the subsidiary cup competi- tion, because if it had been a league game, we would have had a problem. The cup game at Wigton was called off because we couldn’t raise a team. Family and work does get in the way, and that is understood, but what is not palat- able, is not letting team management know until the last minute, when it is then al- most too late to find replacements. A little bit of consideration for your peers would be helpful as well as appreciated! Mike Howe and Paul Minett, who have been coaching the Crusaders, both have considerable business demands, and as we all know work comes first. From now, Geoff Grieves and Simon Little will takes over the reins with coaching for the Cru- saders, with Simon also skippering the side. Please give them your support, They

are both experienced guys and will bring a lot to improving fortunes. The Crusaders are away at Furness today in the , with the Hor- nets entertaining a St Benedict’s XV.

COLTS CRACK Despite joining a new league in the hope of getting more fixtures, the early signs are, that it could be status quo! So far, Darlington and Bishop Auckland have pulled the plug, leaving a group of frustrated players and coaches etc.

Eventually the lads got their season under way when Sunderland Colts travelled to Warwick Road on Sun- day, 22nd September. It could have been a bigger massacre if the referee had not blown up early! Carlisle were just far too superior for the chaps from the north east and by the break had amassed 55 pts.

The game kicked off a little earlier than planned, and right from the outset the home side exerted their su- periority in all phases of the game. Such was the style of the game, it allowed the use of five rolling subs, gaining valuable game time for those who don’t always get the opportunity to display their silky skills!

After the break, Carlisle continued their demolition job, and with ten minutes to go, the referee blew for time at 101 pts to nil - although the Sunderland coach thought it wasd 103! Numerically it may have been a good win, but we all know that such a one sided encounter does little for either side - winner’s can be- come complacent, and those who lose might have a problem retaining the interest of the less committed! Don’t get carried away though on the back of one game - there will be much sterner tests as the season rolls on.

Tomorrow, come to Warwick Road, kick off 12.30 pm.

STILL AWAITING UPDATE BY LEAGUE OFFICIALS 27

COUGARS CHATTER It rather looks like it could be hard season ahead for the Cougars with the re- cent trip to Firwood Waterloo on 22nd September, resulting in a reverse by 108 pts to nil and a subsequent slump to the penultimate slot in the league table. A week of rest last week allows time to re-assess for the home match tomorrow with Camp Hill.

Last week saw the women do another recruitment day - this time at Cumbria University Fresher’s Fair. After a full day talking to students about rugby the cougars got 28 people persuaded to give rugby a try. We hope to retain a large proportion of these new recruits to add to the base of players will al-

ready have.

Our mother-daughter combo at 9 (Ashley Lloyd) and 10 (Bethan Lloyd) are also settling in to playing together. Rumour has it that daughter Bethan has been making her mum Ashley do her homework with passing practise through the week.

The Cougars will be pleased of any support tomorrow afternoon at Warwick Road.

Ben Blain, chairman of youth & junior rugby writes:

T he season is well into full flow and the it’s been a mixed start for our youth teams. The under 16s have played 3 and won 1. They had a convinc- ing win at Blaydon two weeks ago but suffered a defeat to Morpeth last weekend at Warwick Road. The Under 15s have made good progress so far with two wins from two games. They beat Percy Park 21-19 and followed up with a 63-7 trouncing of Morpeth at the weekend. Patrick Noutch is the early leading try scorer with 8! Our 13s made a good start away at Mor- peth earlier in the season but were unfortunately let down by West Hartle- pool at the weekend. Tomorrow our 13s and 14s entertain Percy Park at Warwick Rd whilst the 15s play Sunderland in what will likely be a close en- counter.

The minis and midis kick off tomorrow at Penrith and Kendal. There has been a switch in fixtures this season with the youth committee opting to play all 7s to 12s rugby in the north east leagues. Too many times last sea- son they were let down by fellow Cumbrian teams and although Carlisle is conscious in supporting the development of Cumbria rugby, it goes back to that old saying of ‘looking after your own’. The club has proven that through a well structured youth system, and appropriate training and games for development for its players will provide a foundation for any fu- ture senior rugby. The same teams will shortly play in the Lexus competi- tion in Edinburgh where they will represent the Carlisle branch. Many thanks go to Mike Allan at Lexus for providing the club with this opportu- nity.

We are always on the lookout for new coaches, referees and volunteers to NEWS YOUTH & JUNIOR help on match days and through the week with training. If you can be of as- sistance and would like to get involved please contact; Ben Blain on 07827 298911 email: [email protected]

Finally, best of luck to the 1st XV today. Ben

ABOUT THE NEIGHBOURS LAST WEEK

Tough times out there in Cumbrian rugby! National 2 North has PENRITH lan- guishing at the foot of the table, although last week they managed a 29 all draw at Bradford & Bingley. North 1 West has three other Cumbrian representatives as well as ourselves; KENDAL (our guests today) recorded a victory over Warrington at Mint Bridge, whilst their neighbours down the road at KIRKBY LONSDALE gave Birkenhead Park more than a fright with a 27 pts to 20 pts victory....and Carliols thought BP were the best side seen at this level for a number of years! What does that say about KL. Underley Park has been a happy hunting ground in recent sea-

sons for Carlisle, who will need to be on their mettle next Saturday! To the west

of us, WIGTON wandered south to Widnes in confident mood after a great start to their season; they came off second best where the “Chemics” are always hard to overcome. ASPATRIA have had a moderate start to their second successive campaign in the Nortth Lancs / Cumbria League. They ran out victors over a mediocre outfit from Fleetwood. By all accounts the latter are still whingeing and moaning about having to travel to Cumbria! CREIGHTON, our closest friends, are mid table with two bonus points grabbed from the losses they have suffered in their opening tow games. Their last outing was away at Millom a couple of weeks ago where they were eclipsed by 16 pts to 10 pts in front of a large crowd, there to celebrate a local event!. No match for the Parklands side in the league last week. LANGHOLM (for those who didn’t know, is just north of the border) - last week they had a home victory over Duns by 17 pts to 7 pts and this afternoon they are at home again, this time to North Berwick. IRB - RFU - COUNTY IRB - probably the two matters of interest to emerge from the Dublin powerhouse are, the changes to the scrum laws (see elsewhere in the programme; and the al- teration to discipline regulations. Any player now sent off for whatever reason, will remain suspended until their case has been adjudicated on by the relevant disci- pline panel.

RFU - have recently announced the availability of substantial grant monies through Sport England to help with the creation of satellite sports clubs in the com- munity

COUNTY - Cumbria RFU Ltd have a new team at the helm; MEL HANLEY from GENERAL NEWS & INFORMATION (1) INFORMATION & NEWS GENERAL Aspatria is the county President, with JOHN HEYWORTH, also Aspatria, having taken over the reins as the Chairman. With Jason Spires having relinquished the post of Treasurer, the county finance committee have re-jigged the set up. The fi- nance committee is headed up by ROGER HACKNEY as chairman, and the day to day book keeping has been outsourced to someone from Aspatria (details to be announced). JOHN ROGERS (Creighton) has taken as the RFU Council Mem- ber for Cumbria, replacing Roger Hackney who has retired from the post a few years after succeeding John Owen. That enigma that is PETER RIDDLE sent in the picture (below), entitled “THE HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING A GUIDE DOG!”

REFEREES, as we are regularly reminded, are in short supply throughout Cum- bria. At Carlisle we provide more referees to the society than any other club in the county, so it was little bit disconcerting this week to be told, due to a misunder- standing, that we would have to find two referees to handle 2nd & 3rd XV games, all because that pedantic society official (sorry Norman) had seen his own a**e!

A gentle reminder to ALL OUR COACHES that, apart from the obvious part of the CV is to be able to coach effectively; but their are other responsibilities regarding welfare, safety and safeguarding. Please bear this in mind, and there is now a copy of the rugby bible, the RFU Handbook for every section of the club to refer to.

BITS & PIECES NOTEPAD PIECES & BITS SECURITY of club property and equipment, and your own personal kit etc., is of

paramount importance. Please make sure you put gear away when you are fin- - ished with it and secure the room. Do not leave wallets, money or other valuables in the changing rooms. Arrange for someone to look after it.

GROUNDS SAFETY: Please do not leave plastic, glass or anything else around the grounds, and especially on the fields. Apart of the chance of maintenance equipment you endanger the safety of others as well as yourself. Do you you to train or play among broken glass?

KIT BAGS must not be taken into the clubhouse after training or games. Such items found there, and especially in the hallway and near fire exits, WILL BE RE- MOVED WITHOUT NOTICE. You have been warned - it is for your safety too.

GOSSIP EXTRA GOSSIPEXTRA AFTER MATCH MEALS are supplied to all players and some match officials on production of a meal voucher, Please do not harass the kitchen staff for a meal if you have not got a voucher - unless you want to pay the £3 cost. Tedam manag- ers / administrators are asked to collect their own, and the opposing teams, meal vouchers BEFORE THE MATCH.

PATRON’S PRIVILEGE CLUB: Apologies to those of you who are have a mem- bership. We are late sending out the annual renewal notice, but fear not they will be delivered shortly. The date of your Christmas Lunch will be advised to you at the same time; the draw will take place at the President’s Xmas “Do”.
