Devi Darshan Tour Devi Darshan Tour Overview: The temples are an abode of peace for those longing for relief; harmony and salvation. Famous among Hindus these temples attracts pilgrims from all over the country who seek the blessings of the Goddesses. Grand Fairs are also organized at respective temples fascinating the devotees in large numbers to these holistic destinations. Ambiance of the temples is an excellent venue for those who wish to meditate, pray and possess spiritual attainment. Maximum Altitude: 2082 Metres Best Season to Visit: Throughout the Year Duration of Tour: 05 Nights/6 Days Day 01: Arrival Jammu – Katra (51 kms/ 2 hrs) On arrival at Jammu railway station / Airport pick up and get transferred to Katra situated in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, where the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is located. On arrival check-in at hotel. Overnight at hotel in Katra Day 02: In Katra - Mata Vaishno Devi By: Trek After buffet breakfast start trek to the holy shrine. Vaishno Devi Ji resides in a Holy Cave located in the Trikuta hills. The shrine is a distance of approximately 14 kilometers (8.4 miles) from Katra. This trek requires a steep uphill climb upto Sanjichhat (around 3 Kms from Adkuwari) and then a downward climb for another 3 Kms till Bhawan. Vaishno Devi is an appearance of the Hindu Mother Goddess of MahaKali, MahaSaraswati and MahaLakshmi which is indicated to be nearly a million years old. After darshan, trek back to your hotel at Katra. Overnight at hotel in Katra. Day 03: Katra – Dharamshala (251 kms/ 07 hrs) Proceed to Dharamshala by road. Dharamshala also known a little Lahsa, is magnificently set to the background of the Dhauladhar Mountain range. The town has been the seat of his Holiness, the Dalai Lama, the leader of the Tibetans, since 1960. In the Evening stroll around Mcleodganj which is a charming Tibetan settlement. A giant prayer wheel ornaments the main street and in the monastery, a serene statue of the Lord Buddha presides over the gentle chanting of the monks. Also visit the Bhagsunag temple. Overnight at hotel in Dharamshala Day 04: In Dharamshala - Excursion to Chamunda Devi – (Brajeshwari Devi) Kangra After breakfast drive to Kangra enroute visiting Chamunda Devi temple which is the distinguished holy shrine of Goddess “Chamunda” who is the slayer of the demons Chanda and Mund. The Goddess is said to be the furious form of Durga who was granted the immense powers to kill the demons. The temple is positioned on the banks of Ban Ganga. After Darshan at Chamunda the journey continues to Brajeshwari Devi Temple. The temple also called as Kangra Devi is in the heart of the city amidst huge market hence easily approachable. This temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old. Sati’s charred breasts fell down at this part of Nagarkot village, making it a Sakthi Peeth. Late afternoon return back to Dharamshala. Overnight at hotel in Dharamshala Day 05: Dharamshala – Jwala Ji – Chintpurni (90 kms) After breakfast continue your holy tour to Jwala Ji. According to mythology the half burnt tongue of Sati fell at this place, when Lord Vishnu cut through the corpse of Sati. No idol is placed in the temple and the flame is only worshipped which lights up naturally through rock as the manifestation of Goddess Jwalamukhi. After Darshan continue to Chintpurni. Also known as Chinnamastika temple, it is here that the head of Sati fell here. Chinnamastika as the name suggests is the goddess without head. The temple is built in pyramid style of architecture where the image of Mata Chintpurni is placed in the form a pindi. In the Evening time you can join the Sandhya Aarti at the temple. Overnight stay at hotel in Chintpurni. Day 06: Chintpurni - Naina Devi – Chandigarh (220 kms/ 8-9 hrs) After breakfast drive to Chandigarh enroute visiting Naina Devi. Raja Bir Chand got this temple constructed in the 8th century. According to mythology her eyes fell at this place. Shri Naina Devi Temple is also known as Mahishapeeth because of defeat of demon Mahishasur by the Goddess. The Temple is located on a hilltop. The temple can also be reached by a cable car facility that moves pilgrims from the base of the hill all the way to the top. After darshan, continue towards Chandigarh. In time drop at Chandigarh Railway station or Airport for onwards journey. End of Services!!! .

Pilgrimage is an old practice of travelling to the sacred places such as temples, mosques, churches and shrines etc. Religious tourism mixes pilgrimage and features of tourism and is considered a tool for sustainability, change and peace building among communities. It is particularly important for India being the fastest growing segment of tourism and given the fact that the whole country is dotted with important religious sites and is known for largest congregation in the world as in the case of Mahakumbh. While each state of country has a unique mix of religious tourism but the state of Jammu and Kashmir have a wonderful mix of Hindu, Muslim and Sikh religions sites though it is known more for Vaishno Devi shrine and Amarnath yatra. Kashmir Valley in this state is popularly known for its natural beauty and leisure tourism than religious tourism despite the high resources for religious tourism. This study is an attempt to identify and map the religious tourist resources in Kashmir valley. The nature of the study is exploratory and to find answers to queries raised through objectives both primary and secondary data has been used. The mapping of the sites highlighted that Kashmir has a mixture of different religious attractions and some of these attractions are located in close vicinity to one another.

    ADDITION TO THE CYTOLOGY OF MONOCOTS FROM DISTRICT KANGRA (H.P.) OF WESTERN HIMALAYAS, INDIA Harpreet Kaur1, Santosh Kumari2, and Raghbir Chand Gupta2 1Department of Botany, Guru Nanak College for Girls, Sri Muktsar Sahib ( India) 2Department of Botany, Punjabi University, Patiala (India) ABSTRACT At present, the meiotic/varied chromosome numbers are reported for 27 species (33 cytotypes) belonging to 24 genera of 5 families of Monocots from district Kangra of Himachal Pradesh in the Western Himalayas. On the basis of the world-wide data, the chromosome counts for the two taxa as Lolium remotum var. aristatum (n=7) and Cymbopogon clandestinus (n=10) have been cytologically worked out for the first time. Seventeen species as Commelina hasskarlii (n=11, 30), C. kurzii (n=30), Murdannia nudiflora (n=12), Cyperus flavidus (n=32), Acrachne racemosa (n=6), Andropogon tristris (n=20), Brachiaria remota (n=16), Chrysopogon serrulatus (n=20), Digitaria granularis (n=36), Isachne albens (n=5), Microstegium vagans (n=20), Panicum antidotale (n=16), Pennisetum lanatum (n=21), P. purpureum (n=21), Pogonatherum crinitum (n=14), Setaria barbata (n=16) and S. homonyma (n=16) make new chromosome counts in the form of additional cytotypes on the world-wide basis. Also, the presence of B-chromosomes in the hexaploid cytotype (n=21+1B) of Avena fatua var. fatua are shown for the first time. To supplement the Indian data, chromosome counts for the ten species as Canna discolor (n=9), Briza minor (n=5), Bromus catharticus (n=21), Echinochloa crus-pavonis (n=27), Paspalum distichum (2n=50), Pennisetum lanatum (n=18), P.

The Department of Sociology was established in 1919 by Prof. Patrick Geddes and become the first Chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Civics at Bombay University, who was a city planner and human geographer. Latter he was replaced by G.S. Ghurye and N.A. Toothi and was a concrete step in the growth of sociology in India. Broadly the development of Sociology can be divided into following three schools: 1. The Bombay School 2. The Calcutta School 3. The Lucknow School 1.The Bombay School: The department of Sociology in the University of Bombay (now Mumbai) started to function since 1919—five years after the World War I began. Westernisation of sociological thought was found to be so profound in the department that many of the “little traditions” which could emerge in the course of development of sociology in the first part of this time period was unable to snowball to acquire further momentum. Patrick Geddes, G S Ghurye, A R Desai and scholars of subsequent generations. G.S. Ghurye can be considered the founder of institutionalized sociologyin India. He headed India’s very first post-graduate teaching department of Sociology at Bombay University for thirty-five years.
