Texas Wesleyan University Athletics Director Message Women’s Golf TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS DIRECTOR MESSAGE Dear Ram supporters, My name is Steve Trachier, and it is a privilege to be in my second year serving as Director of Intercol- legiate Athletics at Texas Wesleyan University. It is my honor to welcome you to this publication, the athletic department, and to Texas Wesleyan Universi- ty. I hope that you find this media guide informative and useful as you learn more about our great institu- tion. Texas Wesleyan offers student-athletes an out- standing combination of both academic and athletic excellence. Located just minutes away from beautiful downtown Fort Worth, Texas Wesleyan competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics at the Division I level and is a member of the Red River Athletic Conference. Diverse in membership, the conference includes both public and private in- stitutions located in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New Mexico. The athletic department features thirteen NAIA varsity intercollegiate programs, including: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s track & field, and women’s volleyball. In addition, we boast the nation’s most dominant collegiate table tennis program. Texas Wesleyan offers students a unique blend of personal attention in the classroom and tremendous coaching on the athletic field. The University’s 13:1 student-faculty ratio allows students to obtain a new degree of confidence, while our outstanding coaching staff includes former professional athletes as well as an Olympic Medalist. Our coaches spend countless hours preparing their student-athletes for success in the classroom and on the field of play, as well as for success in life. Address. 1201 Wesleyan St CREDITS: The 2012-13 Golf Media Guide was created by Fort Worth, TX, 76105 Claudia Ikeizumi, RAM Integrated Media Group, Josh Lacy and Jeremiah Washington. 1 2012-2013 Coaching Staff Kevin Millikan Assistant Athletic Director Head Women’s Golf Coach Kevin Millikan will head up the Texas Wesleyan University women’s golf program which is set to begin play in fall 2012. Millikan is in his seven- teenth year of service at Texas Wesleyan University. He also serves the department as Assistant Athletic Director after previously serving seven years as Athletic Director and 10 seasons as head men’s golf coach. In10 seasons as head men’s golf coach, he led the Rams to 17 tour- nament wins. In his first four years, the Rams qualified for the NCAA Division II Regionals three times, earning a national championship berth and an 11th place finish in 2000. In five of his last six seasons as head coach, Millikan led the Rams to a top-10 finish in the NAIA National Tournament and had at least one All-American selection in each of his last six seasons. In 2009, he led the Rams to their ninth NAIA National runner-up finish. Millikan joined the Wesleyan golf team as a player following the 1995 championship season and has been involved with the University ever since. As a player, he participated in the 1997 NAIA National Golf Championship and was a member of the 1997 H.O.T. Conference Championship Team. That season he was chosen by his teammates to receive the Lewis & Dorothy Peek 3-D Award, given annually in recognition of a player’s desire, dedication and determination. In both the 1996 and 1997 seasons, Millikan was nominated by the coaching staff for the Gene & Ann Burge Sportsmanship Award. Following his senior season, Millikan served as the Rams’ assistant coach for two years before taking over as head coach after the 1999 National Championship season. Millikan also held a tremendous record in his seven years as Texas Wesleyan’s Athletic Director. He was named Red River Athletic Conference Athletic Director of the Year for the 2009-10 school year after Texas Wesleyan’s eight NAIA sports posted an overall record of 150-94 (.615). The Rams excelled in conference play, posting a record of 82-28 (.745) and winning RRAC Championships in baseball, men’s basketball, men’s golf, and softball. Five teams were ranked in the top-25 na- tionally, while three made NAIA National Tournament appearances. That year, 31 Rams received All-Conference recognition, while four were named NAIA All-American. The Rams also excelled in the classroom. Six athletes were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes, while 82 posted GPAs of 3.0 or higher. In all, 242 student-athletes notched a cumulative GPA of 2.84. In the following year, Millikan led the Department to its first Red River Athletic Conference All- Sports Award. The Rams took one RRAC Championship and six runner-up finishes while scoring points in 11 of their 12 sponsored sports. The department added men’s and women’s cross coun- try and track and field programs and continued to excel in the classroom. More than 300 athletes combined for a GPA of 2.78, while 117 held a 3.0 or higher. In addition, Millikan has helped make tremendous improvements to the school’s athletic facili- ties. A newly renovated Sid Richardson Center (basketball, volleyball, and table tennis) opened in the fall of 2008 the Morton Fitness Center opened in 2010, and parking and field lighting have been added to Martin Field (soccer). Millikan graduated from Texas Wesleyan in December 1998 with a bachelor of arts degree in psy- chology.     The Trinity River Project is transforming the identity of Fort Worth into a bustling, waterfront city. first ever civil works project to win the “Good Neighbor Award” for sustainability from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Trinity River Vision Authority (TRVA) is the organization responsible for the implementation of the Trinity River Vision (TRV) – a master plan for the Trinity River in Fort Worth, Texas. The seeds of this vision are now taking shape before the eyes of the city. While the primary purpose of the project is to provide needed flood protection, it will double the size of the most livable central business district in the nation. The Vision also provides for the creation of new recreational amenities, improved infrastructure, unique public spaces and responsible environmental enhancements. The components TRVA oversees include the creation of Panther Island, a vibrant, pedestrian-oriented, urban waterfront district adjacent to downtown Fort Worth, the expansion of Gateway Park into one of the largest urban-programmed parks in the nation and the enhancement of the river corridor including over 90 user- requested projects along the Trinity Trails. In addition to this, to help attract businesses and entertainment to the district, TRVA is responsible for programming the project’s public spaces, including Panther Island Pavilion, a waterfront event venue directly adjacent to downtown Fort Worth hosting concerts, festivals, runs and other exciting events. Panther Island, the most well-known component of the Trinity River Vision, has triggered a rebirth of the district north of Flowing canals will be the heart downtown Fort Worth into an urban waterfront community.

    1 Profile Texas Wesleyan University: Located in Fort Worth, Texas, Texas Wesleyan University was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in 1890. A committee under the direction of Bishop Joseph S. Key explored locations for a campus and settled on a site east of Fort Worth donated by area pioneers, A.S. Hall, W.D. Hall, and George Tandy. Originally called Polytechnic College, which has the literal meaning “many arts and sciences,” the school held its first classes in September 1891, with a handful of faculty members and 111 students. In 1902, H.A. Boaz assumed the presidency and managed a period of moderate growth. He conceived the idea of a new university for Southern Methodism and planned to develop Polytechnic College into that university. Since 1934, Texas Wesleyan has remained a co-educational liberal arts institution with an increasingly comprehensive academic and student life program. Much of Downtown’s recent growth has been office construction, hotels, new residential development and the adaptive reuse of office buildings for residential use. These expanding residential, office and visitor populations have created a greater need for usable green and open space Downtown. The desire to have a place for respite and recreation in the center city dates back to the beginning of Fort Worth.
