CENTRAL PARK SOUTH The City of Joondalup is excited to bring you the 2019-20 Arts and Cultural Guide containing the arts, events and cultural programs on offer for the year at various locations throughout the City. The City’s cultural program provides an opportunity for the community to access world-class events, exhibitions, workshops and programs across every art form. In 2018 the City conducted a cultural audit to determine the level and depth of existing arts and cultural practice, service and infrastructure in the City of Joondalup. More 3 than 600 residents responded to the survey highlighting a need for more workshops, spaces and networking opportunities. The City is proud to present an exciting mix of activities and events as a response to some of the feedback received. The City looks forward to working with you in 2020 to create a Cultural Plan to guide the future provision of Arts and Culture within the City of Joondalup. Sign up for the monthly e-newsletter at joondalup.wa.gov.au to be kept up-to-date. 9 NAIDOC Week Celebrations NAIDOC Week is an annual national celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Each July, to coincide with this and in recognition of their significance, the City of Joondalup hosts a month-long program of activities highlighting Australian Indigenous cultures. COMING UP NAIDOC stands for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander NAIDOC program Day Observance Committee. It is the northern corridor’s largest and most significant community event – a three-day feast of arts and culture, taking place in and around the 1 Joondalup City Centre. 12 As the population of the northern COMING UP corridor increases, the Joondalup Festival continues to grow and develop. Joondalup Festival Each year the Festival program features 3 – 5 April 2020 a mix of international, national and local performances. Central Park Grand Boulevard In 2020 the Festival will transform Joondalup City Centre Joondalup City Centre into a larger than life playground and a vibrant hub of arts and cultural activity. A total of 325 practitioners were identified through this survey and the City now has a live database of local artists. To continue to build this database the 15 City encourages you to reach out and be known! If we cannot see you, how do we plan for you? Connecting Creatives initiatives will be run throughout the year to keep artists, educators, training institutions, services, community and amateur groups connected. Little Feet Festival Little Feet Festival is the region’s most popular free cultural event for young families with children aged 12 and under. Held in October each year under the picturesque pine trees of Edith Cowan University, Joondalup, the festival features a diverse program of interactive 20 workshops, art activities and entertainment. COMING UP Each year the Festival explores a unique Sunday theme that guides the programming 27 October 2019 and activations. Previous themes have 1.00pm – 5.00pm included ‘A Voyage to the Sea’ and Pines Picture Gardens ‘On Safari’. OPPORTUNITIES Arts Development Scheme Fund COMING UP The Arts Development Scheme is a fund designed to develop new audiences in the Round One closes Joondalup area.
