CENTRAL PARK SOUTH The City of Joondalup is excited to bring you the 2019-20 Arts and Cultural Guide containing the arts, events and cultural programs on offer for the year at various locations throughout the City. The City’s cultural program provides an opportunity for the community to access world-class events, exhibitions, workshops and programs across every art form. In 2018 the City conducted a cultural audit to determine the level and depth of existing arts and cultural practice, service and infrastructure in the City of Joondalup. More 3 than 600 residents responded to the survey highlighting a need for more workshops, spaces and networking opportunities. The City is proud to present an exciting mix of activities and events as a response to some of the feedback received. The City looks forward to working with you in 2020 to create a Cultural Plan to guide the future provision of Arts and Culture within the City of Joondalup. Each July, to coincide with this and in recognition of their significance, the City of Joondalup hosts a month-long program of activities highlighting Australian Indigenous cultures. COMING UP NAIDOC stands for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander NAIDOC program Day Observance Committee. Joondalup Festival Joondalup Festival is the spectacular finale to the City’s summer events season. It is the northern corridor’s largest and most significant community event – a three-day feast of arts and culture, taking place in and around the 1 Joondalup City Centre. 12 As the population of the northern COMING UP corridor increases, the Joondalup Festival continues to grow and develop. Joondalup Festival Each year the Festival program features 3 – 5 April 2020 a mix of international, national and local performances. Central Park Grand Boulevard In 2020 the Festival will transform Joondalup City Centre Joondalup City Centre into a larger than life playground and a vibrant hub of arts and cultural activity. Presenting bold work from all over the world, the Festival aims to encourage cultural exchange and community participation in the arts. 13

A total of 325 practitioners were identified through this survey and the City now has a live database of local artists. To continue to build this database the 15 City encourages you to reach out and be known! If we cannot see you, how do we plan for you? Connecting Creatives initiatives will be run throughout the year to keep artists, educators, training institutions, services, community and amateur groups connected. Community Choral Project COMING UP The Community Choral Project is a community arts project open to all Registrations open members of the community, who enjoy October 2019 singing. 18 Twilight Lantern Parade COMING UP Watched by a crowd of over 10,000 people as the sunsets, every year Teachers Lantern the parade gets bigger and better. The City of Joondalup is a local government area with City status in Perth, . With 17kms of pristine coastline, more than 300 parks and reserves, an award-winning marina, some of Perth’s best beaches and leading retail destinations, there is something for everyone in the City of Joondalup. 1 Cultural Sites

Luisini Winery The Luisini Winery site consists of the surviving 1929 Lakeway Drive, Kingsley concrete block with corrugated galvanised roof, winery building, other structures and features associated with Private the former operation of the winery, together with the remaining introduced vegetation, natural vegetation and landscape. The site is a listed heritage site and is managed by the National Trust.

Duffy House Also known colloquially as ‘Frederick Duffy House’ or 108 Duffy Terrace, Woodvale ‘Jack Duffy House’, this site located in Woodvale, comprising a single storey iron, brick and limestone City of Joondalup Venue Cottage (1911-1913), and a ruinous limestone Dairy Building (1925) sits in an open rural setting between Beenyup Swamp and Lake Goollelal. It has cultural heritage significance because it is representative of the development of the market gardening and dairying industries in Western Australia in the early 20th century and it retains much of its original open wetland setting within Yellagonga Regional Park. This is becoming less common in Western Australia due to increased urbanisation.

10 Whitford Nodes Hillarys Beach Park is being transformed into the Whitfords Nodes Health and Wellbeing Hub. Recently the Whitfords Avenue, Hillarys City has completed the first stage of construction. These works include a large shaded public playground for the enjoyment of children aged between two and 12 years old, undercover picnic settings, benches and barbecues, new tree planting, an improved irrigation system, drink fountains and universal access footpaths. The playground includes swings, combination and climbing units, nature play elements, sand play and all-abilities play.

Central Park Central Park contains nearly six hectares of remnant bushland and public parklands comprising well-lit 187 Grand Boulevard Joondalup pathways and paved areas, grassed open spaces, limestone walls, lakes and water features. A lengthy boardwalk runs along the end of the pond from Grand Boulevard to the North Metropolitan TAFE campus.

11 Exhibition Locations Many local art groups use local City-owned Community Facilities for their annual exhibitions or fetes to sell artwork. There are 35 venues available for hire throughout the City, providing a large choice for exhibitions or art events. The facilities range in size and functionality from small meeting rooms to large halls capable of catering for up to 300 people, and range in price from $22.00 to $58.00 per hour dependant on the facility of choice. In addition to the City's community facilities, there are many local surf lifesaving clubs and shopping precincts that could host an exhibition in vacant tenancies or have function rooms available for hire.
