Den 7 augusti kl. 20.00 får stockholmspubliken uppleva det legendariska Slayer på Stora Scen. Slayer bildades 1981 i Kalifornien och är med sina över 15 miljoner sålda album ett utav världens mest framgångsrika htrash metalband. Tillsammans med Anthrax, Megadeth och Metallica tillhör Slayer ”The Big Four of Thrash”. Deras musik beskrivs som brutal, bestraffande och vacker och den senaste skivan ”World Painted Blood” är inget undantag. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

Spiritually uncon trolled art: Exploring aesthetics of evil in contemporary music Robert Andersson 2011 Uppsats, magisternivå , 15 hp Religionsvetenskap Människa, natur och religionsprogrammet Handledare: Juan Carlos Gumucio Examinator: Peder Thalén Abstract This essay investigates interpretations of evil as expressed in contemporary music, focusing mainly on lyrics in contemporary popular music. The purpose is to analyze whether there is a certain aesthetic embracing of risk and innovation on display when discussing such subject matters, and to relate such aesthetic connotations to cultural and religious aspects. Lyrical interpretations of evil in a musical context appear to be existent in different forms and are in various ways attempts to integrate the existence of evil acts, as leading to suffering and pain, by incorporating such themes into lyrical material. There appears to be a possible aesthetic embraced when artists are advocating evil acts, however, not totally separable from the aesthetics of the extreme metal scene. Such forms of creative practice appear as reliant on the dialectic between historical perceptions of morality, modern society as globalized, segmented and restructured and the reoccurrence of religion in a secularized perspective. Themes regarding evil appear in this form of aesthetic in different ways to traditional discourse; making use of historical and contemporary images of evil and portraying them as desirable in various ways. In some instances such creative release is also linked to religious belief and practice, making the artistic performance equivalent of a transcendental event. Reubert Marques Pacheco1 RESUMO O heavy metal é um novo objeto de investigação historiográfica. Surgido na década de 1970, o heavy metal vem, ao longo destas últimas décadas recrutando legiões de fãs e colecionando polêmicas. Este artigo compõe as atividades de pesquisa desenvolvidas no mestrado da linha História e Cultura da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, onde buscamos entender dentro da dissertação uma parte do imaginário, a iconografia e as representações que remetem a certos tipos de sentimentos como o medo, o horror, trauma, insegurança e violência na contemporaneidade. Neste artigo propomos pensar sobre os usos das memórias traumáticas referentes ao Holocausto e as maneiras como este evento limite poderia ser representado. Para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho, utilizamos a musicalidade do metal extremo como uma forma de discutir sobre este tema pensando a seguinte questão: é possível representar um evento limite como o holocausto em uma música? Quais implicações morais, éticas e teóricas existem neste exercício representativo? Utilizamos como fonte para tal discussão a letra da música “Angel of Death” da banda de thrash metal norte-americana Slayer. Utilizamos como referencial teórico para pensar o rock e seus subgêneros, alguns autores que discutem sobre este tipo de musicalidade e subcultura. Pensamos a musicalidade metal dentro de uma sociedade contemporânea que passa por grandes transformações e para isso recorremos a Zygmunt Bauman para pensarmos esta fluidez das relações e os possíveis diálogos estabelecidos entre os músicos e a sociedade.

Slayer Feiern Release Von „Repentless“
Vergangenen Freitag präsentierte die Metalband Slayer ihr neues Album "Repentless" samt neuem Video. Video passend zur Veröffentlichung Slayer feiern Release von „Repentless“ 14. September 2015, Von: Redaktion, Foto(s): Nuclear Blast Records Slayer sind zurück – am vergangenen Freitag erschien das mittlerweile elfte Studioalbum „Repentless“ der Metal-Ikone. Zum Titeltrack hat das Quartett aus Kalifornien außerdem ein Video veröffentlicht, das in einem Gefängnis spielt und in dem einige prominente Schauspieler zu sehen sind. Sechs Jahre nach ihrem Grammy-nominierten Album „World Painted Blood“ melden sich Slayer mit ihrem neuen Album „Repentless“ zurück. Die insgesamt zwölf Tracks wurde von Terry Date produziert, die Aufnahmen starteten im März 2014. Bereits im April letzten Jahres präsentierten Slayer einen ersten Song namens „Implode“ und stellten diesen als Gratis-Download zur Verfügung. Zwischen September 2014 und Januar dieses Jahres setzte die Band rund um Frontmann Tom Araya die Aufnahmen des Albums in den Henson Studios in Los Angeles fort. Nun war es am vergangenen Freitag so weit und Slayer präsentierten ihren Fans das neue Werk – sowohl physisch als auch digital. Doch viele Fans waren sich schnell einig: Ganz oldschool sollte das Album auf CD gekauft werden. Kein Wunder: Slayer gründeten sich bereits 1981, dementsprechend gestaltet sich auch die Zielgruppe. Zum Titeltrack haben Slayer pünktlich zum Release außerdem ein Video veröffentlicht (Link siehe Infokasten). In diesem befinden sich die Bandmitglieder in einem Frauengefängnis in Los Angeles, in dem es zu Krawallen kommt. Unter den Schauspielern befinden sich bekannte Gesichter aus der 14.
