FIRST ROTATION OF

Genesis 1:1-11 ...... In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth For the first time in North America, the 1st century CE handwritten text of Genesis that was discovered in Qumran will go on view to the public. The Biblical book describes the creation of man and woman, the Garden of Eden, the flood, ’s descent to and God’s promise of a future of greatness. The passage on view at TFI begins with Genesis 1:1-11 – perhaps the most well-known words in the history of the world “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Exodus 6:25–7:16 ...... I am the LORD; speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak to you

Joshua 7:12-15 ...... Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow

Isaiah 10:23-12:1 ...... The wolf shall live with the lamb the leopard shall lie down with the kid

Psalms 145:13-32 ...... Blessed be the LORD and blessed be his name forever and ever

Apocryphal Text ...... …he brings down to the deepest Sheol and brings up from the abyss Non-biblical Tobit recounts the story of an Israelite living in exile in the Assyrian capital of Nineveh. Before the discovery of Tobit manuscripts among the Dead Sea Scrolls, the text was assumed to have been composed between the first and third centuries CE. However, of the five copies found in Cave 4, one has been dated to 100 BCE pushing back the likely date of the tale’s composition considerably.

Damascus Document ... No one should wear perfumes to go out or come in on the Sabbath Non-biblical This scroll, dated to the end of the first century BCE, addresses a community that fled from Judea to the “land of Damascus” – which may actually mean Qumran, where the scrolls were found – regarding activities allowed on the Sabbath.

Commentary on Genesis 7:10–8:13 ...... Excerpts from the flood story and accompanying commentary.

Apocryphal Psalms ..... He has opened his eyes upon the oppressed and has heard the cry of the orphans The biblical book of Psalms contains 150 poems, but there were many more hymns and psalms in use in ancient . This scroll is an example of a psalm that follows the style of biblical psalms but is not found in the Hebrew .

Wisdom Literature ..... Blessed is the man to whom she has been given This scroll is one of several that are similar in theme and content to the biblical Wisdom literature of Proverbs and are classified as works of wisdom.
