The immediate objectives cf thè mission vere to: (a) Review and assess the existing reports, documents, other information and data available with respect to local resources of gold, gemstones, coal, nickel, iron and gypsum; (b) Prepare specific project profiles for each of the above local mineral resources, reflecting their commercially exploitable potential for the consideration cf prospective investors; (c) Prepare a report evaluating the existing situation with respect to the commercially exploitable minerals in the country and recommending relevant projects for viable industrial investment. The experts conclude that, given the adequate development of water supplies, electric power stations and means of transportation, the United Republic of Tanzania has adeQuate mineral resources tc attain a fair degree of industrialization. Location of gold fields and mines ............................. nraoDUcnor During a.programming cission of the United Bâtions Industrial Development Organization (UKISC), the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania reQuested assistance in the establishment of an industrial base to ensure the naziaira utilization of local rav materials in order to increase the value added and to generate an income of foreign exchange. Specifically, assistance to the Ministry of Mater, Energy and Minerals in the execution of a pilot study reviewing the existing situation regarding commercially exploitable minerals was sought, and on 19 June 1961 URXDO approved the project "Pilot study on natural resources" (RP/URT/81/003). The execution of the pilot study was subcontracted to Polytechna, Chechoslovakia, and a tesm consisting of three geologists, Z. Hokr, A.V. Seifert (team leader) and J. SeZulka, was in the field from 26 January to 19 February 1982. The immediate objectives of the mission were to; (a) Review and assess the existing reports, documents, other information and data available with respect to local resources of gold, gemstones, coal, nickel, iron and gypsum; (b) Prepare specific project profiles for each of the above local mineral resources, reflecting their commercially exploitable
