Dear Kinetic Kids Family,

Kinetic Kids changes lives for the better. We provide children with special needs options for health, friendship, team and inclusion. After 19 years, we continue to fulfill the hearts of children with special needs and their families by getting them off the sidelines and into the game. Some people think we are sisters, and others just call us “TraceyKacey.” But our biggest commonality is our love of sports. Tracey grew up on the soccer fields while Kacey hit the courts. We both appreciate the impact sports had on our childhood as an avenue to unity, friendships, confidence and dreams fulfilled. TRACEY FONTENOT & KACEY WERNLI

volunteering for Kinetic Kids has brought joy, not only to kids with special needs and their families, but to them as well. “Seeing the kids come in on the first day and not knowing what to do with a basketball, then seeing them later make a basket and have them turn to you and their parents with such pride and joy,” said Michael. “You are I know I’m where happy…happy for the kids, I’m supposed to be! and happy for the parents.” — Joey Gdovin, Volunteer The 2019 Walk.Run.Roll raised $24,000 through record-breaking attendance. Our mission was truly in motion, as over 500 Kinetic Kids, sponsors and community members got active by walking, running and rolling on a chilly Saturday in January. The special needs community has a special place in the heart of Sabrina Ponce. Her older brother, Saul, had spina bifida. His condition confined him to a wheelchair, but Sabrina does not remember him complaining about his disability or his wheelchair, “To him that was just an accessory, and he didn’t let anything keep him from radiating love and joy.” So, when she needed a 400-hour internship to complete her undergraduate degree, Sabrina knew Kinetic Kids was the best fit for her, even though it meant moving from Corpus Christi to San Antonio.

The internship was a great experience, until it ended. Sabrina simply didn’t want to leave Kinetic Kids: “Once you start, you can’t continue without them. These kids grab your heart.” So, she transferred schools and volunteered while completing her occupational therapy degree.

Nearly 13 years after her brother’s passing, Sabrina remains committed to the special

needs community and to Kinetic Kids where she now serves as a program director. “This is somewhere the kids can be independent Once you start, and successful in sports they’re interested in,” you can’t continue said Sabrina. “My favorite part is the kids, but I love looking back at the parents because without them. their faces say it all, too. Some are teary eyed, These kids others are smiling with such joy in their face because they didn’t think it was possible. It’s a grab your heart! sweet reminder what Kinetic Kids is about.” — Sabrina Ponce, Program Director Ee, Seve Reoe Fa o Cle Seal Nee

Families of children with special needs in the San Antonio area can discover an extensive range of adaptive devices, accessories and support services at our Kinetic Kids EXPO.
