FirenzeFirenze Neptunbrønden, Piazza della Signoria 75 Arkitektur og byggestilFirenze ved et palæ fra renæssancen I renæssancen blev der bygget mange herskabelige palæer i Toscana på grund af den rigdom, der opstod i de velhavende bankier- og købmandskredse. Lorenzo il Magnifico fremmede sågar bygge- riet heraf ved at tilbyde 40 års skattefrihed til dem, som byggede et palæ på en ubebygget grund. I perioden 1450-78 blev der i gennemsnit bygget et større palæ om året i Firenze. Renæssancepalæerne har flere arkitektoniske fællestræk: 1) Palæerne er ofte navngivet efter deres ejer/bygherre. 2) Facaderne er bygget af groft tilhuggede kvadersten (rustikamurværk), som giver bygningerne indtryk af styrke og stabilitet. 3) Bygningerne er normalt opført i tre etager, som er afgrænset tydeligt fra hinanden ved brug af forskellige firkantede sten (kvadersten). Stueetagen blev brugt til opbevaringsrum og værksted. Her er ofte et gitter foran vinduerne. Mellemetagen var det officielle modtagerum (piano nobile), mens den øverste etage blev brugt til selve beboelsen. 4) Øverst på bygningen er der et fremspringende fladtrykt tag, som rager et pænt stykke ud over muren (kransgesims med konsoller). 5) Indtil år 1500 var vinduerne ofte omkranset af en halvcirkelformet bue af et kileformet murværk (ex Palazzo Strozzi). Efter 1500 var buerne over vinduerne ofte formet som store trekanter (ex Bartolini- Salimbeni). 6) I palæets centrum findes der som regel en indergård med en over- dækket buegang (loggia) og en brønd i midten. Gården funge- rede som tilbagetrukket indgangsparti og var samtidig et sted, hvor man kunne opholde sig i svalende skygge om sommeren. Biforiumvinduer i P. Strozzi. -

Winter is also the season to travel into the hills for skiing and thermal baths, and immersing in the fashion events that take over the city centre. Or if you’d prefer to hide from the cold, then bundle up, light the fire (or a few candles), pour a nice glass of Chianti and snuggle in under a warm blanket. PITCHER & FLACCOMIO PICKS FOR JANUARY BEST EVENT FOR JANUARY: LA BEFANA VISITS DURING THE EPIPHANY January 6 On January 6, La Befana arrives in Florence and this is Italy's traditional day of gift giving. In the Christian tradition the name "Befana" is a popular version of the Greek term “Epiphany", which was the festivity following Christmas commemorating the visit of the Magi. According to the legend the three wise men on their journey were stopped by an old woman with a broom who asked them where they were going. They told her that they were following a star that would lead them to a newborn baby, and invited her to come along. But she replied that she was busy sweeping and cleaning and did not go. When she realised her mistake, her regret was so great that she continues to wander about Italy and on the Epiphany (January 6, when the Wise Men finally found the baby Jesus), begins rewarding good children and disappointing those who were bad. -

Curated by Stefania Ricci and Riccardo Spinelli, the exhibition will include prestigious works of art and documents from museums and private collections and will tell the intricate stories behind the palace and its residents, in captivating displays created by stage designer Maurizio Balò, thus sharing one of the most important buildings in the city’s urban landscape with Florence, Florentines and travellers.
