Selichot: Selichot translates to forgiveness. In this service, in preparation for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we emphasize God’s merciful attributes as we open ourselves up for the process of repentance. As we turn to purify our hearts for the new year, we signify that desire by changing our Torah covers as well. Erev Rosh Hashanah: Join us on the Beth Israel Facebook page as we welcome in the year 5781! As we begin the Days of Awe, we will take time to reflect upon a turbulent year that has thrown us into a world full of uncertainty. While we work to improve ourselves and our community in these reflections, we seek refuge in a liturgy that blesses us in these difficult endeavors. Rabbi Rosen’s sermon for this service will explore a theological response to and a compassionate charge for a world turned upside down by the coronavirus. Rosh Hashanah Children’s Service: Rabbi Rosen and Rachel Glazer are teaming up once again to bring our families a sweet and fantastic New Year’s celebration. Join us on zoom for an hour full of song, reflection, and fun! Rosh Hashanah Morning Service: Join us on zoom for an interactive service where we will use the liturgy of the Shofar to explore how we reflect, repent, and renew ourselves for a sweet new year in this challenging world. We will be using parts of the morning service in Mishkan HaNefesh as well as supplemental materials. Rosh Hashanah Torah Service and Study: Join us on zoom as we discuss and debate the message of the Binding of Isaac in Genesis 22. This provocative passage raises questions on what it means to adhere to the Jewish tradition. We will begin with our rituals for taking the Torah out of the Ark in Mishkan HaNefesh before transitioning into study. Rosh Hashanah 2nd Morning Service: Join Rabbi Rosen on Facebook Live for a morning of meaningful worship. We will be using the morning service in Mishkan HaNefesh and reading from the creation story in Genesis 1. Rosh Hashanah Mindfulness and Meditation Session: Take a break from the intense High Holy Day liturgy for moments of peace and tranquility. Join us on zoom as we engage in personal exploration and look forward to creating a sweet new year! Memorial Service at Cemetery: Join us at Beth Israel Cemetery for a socially distanced memorial service. Copies of prayers will be available. Congregants are also encouraged to bring copies of the Yom Kippur Mishkan HaNefesh for access to memorial prayers in the Yizkor liturgy. Updates will be provided if any changes need to be made. Kol Nidre: Join us on Facebook Live as we seek powerful and compassionate presence for our Day of Atonement. As we stand before the Gates of Heaven, and seek forgiveness for our transgressions, we will reflect on the sacred duties we charge ourselves and each other. We will be using the Kol Nidre Service provided in Mishkan HaNefesh. Rabbi Rosen’s sermon for this service will focus on Jewish healing approaches to the many tensions we experience in our lives today. Yom Kippur Children’s Service: Rabbi Rosen and Rachel Glazer will be leading our families in meaningful reflection and community building. As the teachings and liturgy surrounding our Day of Atonement can be heavy for our younger learners, we hope to translate the difficult themes into a transformative experience for the whole family. Yom Kippur Morning Service: Join us on zoom for an interactive service, where we will use the liturgy of the Shofar to explore how we reflect, repent, and renew ourselves for a sweet new year in this challenging world. We will be using parts of the morning service in Mishkan HaNefesh as well as supplemental materials. Yom Kippur Torah Service and Study: Join us for an hour of exploration as we discuss and debate the message of Nitzavim in Deuteronomy 29-30. This passage compels us to take communal responsibility for our actions. We will raise questions on what it means to be true to ourselves and each other as we move towards self-improvement. Our service will begin with our rituals for taking the Torah out of the Ark in Mishkan HaNefesh before transitioning into study. Yom Kippur Special Study: Dr. James Bowley will be leading us in scholarly study on an exciting topic. We will announce the topic and distribute materials as soon as they are finalized. Yom Kippur Afternoon Service: Join BITY and Rabbi Rosen on zoom for a meaningful service leading up to the reading of Jonah. The reading of Jonah can be found in Mishkan HaNefesh. Yizkor: We will gather on zoom to remember those dear to our hearts who have passed in the recent year and whose memories are forever a blessing for us. For all those in periods of mourning and remembrance, we will open our hearts to you. We will use sections of the liturgy from Mishkan HaNefesh. Neilah: After an intense day of worship, reflection, and exploration, join us on zoom as we offer concluding thoughts and prayers, and look forward to affirming our commitment to improvement for the new year! We will use sections of the liturgy from Mishkan HaNefesh. Break the Fast: If you’re not too zoomed out, we hope you will join us at the conclusion of Neilah to say Motzi. We will also have the chance to offer toasts to each other for the new year and celebrate what we have been able to accomplish as a congregation during these virtual worship and study experiences. .
