FINA WORLD SERIES: FIRST MEDALS CLAIMED ON DAY 1

24.04.2015, 19:48 Medals in the men’s and women’s 10m platform and 3m springboard synchro events SPORT were contested on the opening day of the FINA/NVC Diving World Series at the Aquatics Palace, Kazan.

First medals of the World Series were up for grabs in the 10m platform dives. China finished on the top step of the podium in both men's and women's medal events. The Chinese duet Aisen CHEN and beat Mexico's Ivan GARCIA and German SANCHEZ with German divers and ending up in third place. Russia's Victor MINIBAEV and Roman IZMAYLOV settled for the fifth place.

Results: 1. Aisen CHEN/Lin YUE (CHN) – 462.78 2. Ivan GARCIA/German SANCHEZ (MEX) – 433.65 3. Sascha KLEIN/Patrick HAUSDING (GER) – 433.02 … 5. Victor MINIBAEV/Roman IZMAYLOV (RUS) – 414.87.

Ruolin CHEN and Huixia LIU of China were unbeatable in the women's synchro event. Second place was claimed by Canadian divers Megan BENFEITO and Roseline FILION while the British synchronised diving duet Sarah BARROW and Tonia COUCH grabbed bronze. Yulia TIMOSHINA and Daria GOVOR of Russia came fourth.

Results: 1. Ruolin CHEN/Huixia LIU (CHN) – 338.88 2. Megan BENFEITO/Roseline FILION (CAN) – 316.11 3. Sarah BARROW/Tonia COUCH (GBR) – 312.54 4. Yulia TIMOSHINA/Daria GOVOR (RUS) – 285.36

The morning session's awarding ceremony was followed by the women's 3m synchro springboard. The Russian duet Kristina ILINYKH and Nadezhda BAZHINA added first medals to Team Russia's tally. They placed third finishing behind the Chinese and Canadian divers.

1. Minxia WU/Tingmao SHI (CHN) – 334.20 2. Jennifer ABEL/Pamela WARE (CAN) – 309.36 3. Kristina ILINYKH/Nadezhda BAZHINA (RUS) – 280.80

The struggle for gold medals was fierce in the men's event. The Chinese divers Yuan CAO and Kai QIN finished first scoring 14 points more than Russia's Evgeny ZAKHAROV and Ilia KUZNETSOV.

Results: 1. Yuan CAO and Kai QIN (CHN) – 458.61 2. Evgeny ZAKHAROV/Ilia KUZNETSOV (RUS) – 444.12 3. Jahir OCAMPO/Rommel PACHECO (MEX) – 422.58

Day 2 of the FINA Diving World Series will see divers compete for medals in the men's and women's 3m springboard individual and mixed synchro events. The competition takes place at the Aquatics Palace.
