  • 16Th FINA World Championships 2015 in Kazan
16th FINA World Championships July 24 - August 9, 2015 PATRICK HAUSDING: THE FINA WORLDS IS OUR LUCKY TICKET TO RIO 2016 24.07.2015, 15:53 Renowned German divers Sascha Klein and Patrick Hausding are the main SPORT candidates for gold. After the training session at the Aquatics Palace the athletes shared their thoughts about opponents and expressed their attitude towards the mixed duets. Germany had not made the podium approximately for 40 years up until Barcelona 2013 where their duet Sascha Klein and Patrick Hausding claimed gold medal in the 10m platform event. Two years in a row, at Shanghai 2011 and Barcelona 2013 Sasha Klein rounded out the podium in third in individual dives coming after US diver David Boudia and tireless Chinese athlete Qiu Bo. Patrick Hausding, who earned Beijing 2008 silver together with Sascha Klein, successfully performs in springboard and platform events. Their duet is an example of collaborative work of two mature independent athletes. The European Championships certainly prove that. – Who do you think is your main opponent? S.K.: As for the synchronised diving I guess athletes from China, Mexico, Cuba (all of them are definitely good at synchronised routine), Russia as well. As for Individual diving China, the USA, Russia, Ukraine. – What dives are you focusing on more right now? S.K.: On both of them. Synchronised diving is scheduled on Sunday, thus there will be a week left to get ready for the individual ones. – Once you’ve said your heart fills with joy when everyone wins except for Chinese athletes. P.H.: I am a pretty unbiased person.

During the six-day meet, 14 events as in men's and women's 1 and 3 meters springboard, 10m platform and synchro as well as the all-around and team competition will be contest among 350 divers. As the grand slam winner at the World Cup, the World Championships and the Olympic Games, Guo has no exception to show up at the national championships. She just completed a hat-trick of gold double at the newly-invented World Series by winning both women's 3m springboard and synchro in three stops. Guo, 26, currently the eldest women athlete in the Chinese diving history, said: "I need to vie for the Olympic berth from every trail, by my own performance, not by my previous reputation." Guo will compete in her favorite springboard, where she will face the challenges from her Olympic synchro partner Wu Minxia, world champion Li Ting and newcomer He Zi. Absent from the national contests for nearly one year, Hu Jia and Peng Bo, the gold medalists in the men's 10m platform and springboard at the Athens Olympic Games, will stage a strong comeback at Yantai. Other Olympic champions, including women's 10m platform synchro winners Li Ting and Lao Lishi and world champions Qin Kai, Lin Yue and Huo Liang will also show up at the national trial.

  • An Analysis of Chinese Olympic and Elite Sport Policy Discourse in The
An Analysis of Chinese Olympic and Elite Sport Policy Discourse in the Post-Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Era by Xiaoqian Hu A Doctoral Thesis Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of Doctoral of Philosophy of Loughborough University February 2015 © by Xiaoqian Hu 2015 i Abstract This thesis has sought to investigate the development of Chinese elite sport policy after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games through examining the evolution of the Chinese Olympic discourses and elite sport policy discourses with emphasis on the power and interests reflected and constructed within and by these discourses. This study adopts a Critical Discourse Analysis approach, (founded on Critical Realist premises). The discourse analysis protocol employed is modified from Fairclough’s (2005, 2009) framework, also known as Dialectical-Relational Approach, to examine the constitution and implementation of power at the meso and micro levels of relationships within Chinese elite sport. The analysis is based on archival material and semi-structured interviews. Rather than providing a detailed chronology of the Chinese Olympic movement and of Chinese elite sport, the analysis, divided into two main parts, starts with identifying critical periods as the start line of the analysis and points of division that separate these periods. The analysis of the pre-2008 era starts with the year 1993, in which the first Olympic bid by China failed and the second significant reforming policy of Chinese elite sport was published. This section of the thesis consists of an analytic description of the development of Chinese elite sport policy and the analysis of Chinese Olympic discourse and elite sport discourse before the 2008 Olympics.
