Page 1 what sets us apart? Patented “Uro-flex” Bushings Patented, free rotation design allows the inner sleeve to rotate. Because of this free rotational design, shear and torsional stress on the bushings are eliminated. Rubber bushings are bonded to both the outer and inner sleeve and when the arm rotates, the bushings material is twisted and contorted resulting in high stresses causing premature bushing failure. In addition, Urethane is a superior polymer which does not break down over time from exposure to petroleum products, acids, salts, or ozone that damage rubber. Urethane allows the suspension to flex in uneven terrain and cornering, yet it resists vehicle roll. High Pivot Point We engineer a higher pivot point into most of our pull arms to offer unmatched stability during cornering and while operating over uneven terrain. In addition, a high pivot point offers a drastic reduction in frame rail stress. In most cases, our pivot points are as much as 8” to 10” closer to the frame rail. Having the pivot point that close to the frame helps to eliminate most frame rail maintenance. Short Mounting Envelope Silent Drive offers some of the shortest mounting envelopes in the industry. Depending on the application, a Silent Drive suspension will often fit when other suspensions are too large. Under Arm Lift Most Silent Drive suspensions incorporate an “Under Arm” positive lift. In addition to quick lift response, an Under Arm lift offers superb driver comfort and reduced system maintenance. “Huck Bolted” Pivot Points Most Silent Drive suspensions incorporate “Huck Bolted” pull arm and axle seat bushings. “Huck Bolting” is recognized in the industry for its durability and lack of maintenance. Double Coil Spring Shocks All steerable Silent Drive suspensions incorporate double coil spring shocks for unsurpassed stability and driver control. Complete Mounting and Installation Kits Silent Drive has kits available for quick and easy installation. These kits include, but are not limited to, mounting hardware, air lines, valves, and brake fittings. Depending on the suspension, Silent Drive offers everything you need to do the complete installation. Totally Unitized Axle and Suspension Our suspensions and axles are totally unitized for reduced installation time. A unitized system includes a regulated inside-cab control panel, brake protection check valve, two quick release valves, standard brakes, wheels or hubs, drums, one lower cross member, and auto slack adjusters. IMPORTANT: If the suspension will be operated in the tag position, Silent Drive recommends not exceeding an axle spacing of 60 inches between the nearest drive axle and the lift axle. Contact Silent Drive before exceeding these limitations.

In the early ‘50s tag axles were gaining in popularity, but it soon became apparent that they lacked in traction. In an effort to address this problem, a company was started in 1953 in Sioux City, Iowa, producing large pulleys to be installed between the dual tires of the drive axle and tag axle. By connecting these pulleys with a large V-belt, the drive axle powered the tag axle.

Since the tag axle was powered by silent V-belts instead of noisy gears, the company was called Silent Drive. By the early ‘70s, Silent Drive’s suspension lifts were edging out V-belt drives in the marketplace, creating an opportunity to expand product lines, and soon required more space in the factory. In 1974, a new plant was built in Orange City, Iowa, and all operations were moved to this new location.

Since that time, Silent Drive has been the innovative leader in the suspension industry. We were the first to use automatic leaf spring-lifts in the suspension. Additionally, the professionals at Silent Drive pioneered the concept of unitizing the suspension to an axle for a complete, ready-to-install system. The underarm air spring lift concept was developed by the Silent Drive engineering team, and has been adopted by nearly every suspension manufacturer in the nation.

Silent Drive has grown from a regional manufacturer, supplying products primarily for the agricultural market, to an industry leader, manufacturing air suspensions for liftable tags and pushers, drive axle suspensions, as well as primary and auxiliary lift axles on trailers. Using state of the art technology like Pro-E and Finite Element Analysis for design and testing also allows us to provide custom built systems tailored to specific needs or applications.
