The housing team puts a tremendous amount of effort into coordinating car, job, reporting time to be at the field, allergies and many other factors when placing a player with a family. We will take suggestions and requests but we can not guarantee a family a specific player. If a temporary player is assigned to your family and you do not take him you will be removed from the housing list.

Here is some important information to keep in mind when you decide to take a player for the summer: x It is important for families to realize that they are signing on to take a baseball player for the summer that could have a contract or possibly only a temporary contract. Do not ask us for a permanent player. Last year 13 temporary players made the team. x CCBL policy with regards to the number of players we can have on the team has changed. We will have 25 to 30 contracted players by the July CCBL deadline. We will no longer have an exact number of families or players. It is possible that a family will only have a player for part of the summer. x Team USA tryouts are in June. x It is just as likely to have a contracted player only be here 2 weeks as it is to have a temporary that stays the summer. x The last 2 summers we have had at least one family that does not have a player at the end of the season. Please prepare your family for this scenario. x Your family must be willing to take whatever player we choose to place in your home. x Please try to be available to take your player the first week of June. x If you have any vacation time planned please let us know so that we can make the proper arrangements to have the player live with another family while you are away. x We do have some temporary homes that take only temps for that first week before opening day. It is possible we could have as many as 30+ players here for the first week.

We always welcome comments and if you have any questions regarding placement please call or email anyone involved with housing and we will be happy to answer questions or resolve any issues.

I know it must be a tough job and you do everything you can to place the right player w/ the right family. That said, we are a bit confused. Not only did you give us a kid w/ no car but you gave us another pitcher! I told XXXX when he got home from baseball tonight, and his response was, "Bummer man". Frankly, my only reason for having a player is for XXXX. Having a position player after the last two years of pitchers was a lot of fun for him. I think his favorite thing is riding in the car w/ our player for the games that he bat boys. So this is somewhat of a double whammy for XXXX. Plus, he has informed me that 14 is to old to be a bat boy so he will be hanging up his uniform after this season. Anyhow Lisa, my intention is not to make your job harder, only to try and make MY little baseball boy enjoy his summer. If you think this boy won't mind being stuck out here in the boonies w/ no car, OK then. Maybe he'll like weeding! I can only hope. Thanks for all that you do, don't think that you're not appreciated. Put your feet up and have a cup of tea. That's what I'm doing. 7KHQVWDUWDOORYHUDJDLQWRPRUURZ:H OOQHYHUEHERUHGULJKW"´

4 Report Date and Playoffs

Thursday June 2nd is reporting date this year. Informal practice is Friday, June 3rd and the first formal practice is Saturday, June 4th. Welcome Picnic is on Friday, June 11th @ 6:00 pm. A schedule of all dates will be sent to all families closer to the start of the season. 8 out of 10 teams will again this year make the playoffs. It is more than likely the season will continue beyond August 4th. Playoffs begin Friday August 5th.

Volunteer Requirements

As part of your commitment to the team we are asking ALL families to volunteer once or twice during the season; many hands make for light work! Listed below are some of the areas where your help is needed: x Assist with Game Day in the office ± Every home game we need someone in the office behind home plate to help the interns and fans with questions, count money and make sure all runs smoothly. x Check in at Clinics ± We need someone to be in Centerville, Cotuit and Advanced Camp to check in children and collect any checks on Mondays, 8:45 -9:05 x Feed players between games ± We need volunteers to set up and feed the teams between the double header games. x Feed players after away games ± We need someone to pick up food for the players, coaches and bring it to the away game. Many times we need a cooler to keep the foods cold. x Pasta Potluck Meals after games ± we need people to volunteer to serve -4, set up - 4, clean up -4 and pick up the food from Chef Ralph -1. x Text players ± We need to contact the players about a change in practice, xcld clinic or game, collecting rent. Texting provides us a way to tell all fairly quickly. ± 2 people x Call families ± We need help contacting families about up coming events, changes x Collect rent ± On the weekend we collect rent from our temporary players. We need volunteers that can go early or stay after the game to assist with collecting rent. The money is then given to Lisa Theoharidis who will record and deposit the money. x *URFHU\6WRUH%-¶VUXQ ± We need volunteers to get sport drinks, water, fruit, bars for the double header games, drinks for the away games when we feed the players, and drinks for the pasta potluck dinners. Please keep the receipts to submit to housing and you will be reimbursed by the organization. x Assist with the store ± Every home game we need someone in the store to help the interns with customers/sales.

Other Information

On Fridays the home team will where Red Shirts to honor our men and women serving our country in the Military. We encourage our families and fans to also where red to show there support and solidarity with our Troops.

Children age 10-13 whose families are involved with the organization as a Host Family or Volunteers can be Bat Boys. If this is something your child would like to do and they can commit to the schedule and needs of the team please let us know and we will pass on your information to Bob Scotti who is the coordinator for Bat Boys.

Uniform

7KHSOD\HUVUHFHLYHVWULSHGSDQWVEHOWDQDZD\MHUVH\DKRPHMHUVH\DQGDUHGVXSSRUWWKHWURRS¶V jersey to be worn on Friday Home Games ± 4 this year to honor our Troops. These are not for them to keep. Please make sure your player leaves them behind when the season is over. 5 Laundry

It is necessary for the players to have access to the washer and dryer. They are given only one away and one home uniform. Because they play baseball 6 days a week they usually need to do their laundry every day or every other day. Please also note the Red Jersey can not go in the dryer!

3OHDVHWDNHWKHWLPHWRVKRZWKHSOD\HUKRZWRXVH\RXUPDFKLQHV6RPHIDPLOLHVZLOOFKRRVHWRGRWKHSOD\HU¶V laundry so that he is not doing laundry late at night or washing only 2 items at a time but you do not need to do their laundry!

Room and Board

It is required for all players to pay room and board during their stay while playing amateur baseball. If they do not pay room and board or any other expenses incurred during their stay they would be jeopardizing their NCAA eligibility. All non-payments of bills and expenses will be reported to the College Coach, Parents, the Baseball League and the NCAA.

Do not accept rent payment directly from your player. The Association is responsible for collecting SOD\HUV¶ rent payments. Families will be paid by the Association in 3 installments over the course of the summer. Those dates will be as follows: June 29, July 20 and 1 week after the last game. Please let us know if this is a problem for your family.

x Room and board for their stay in Cotuit is $810 for the regular season. An additional $90 will be added to cover playoffs bringing the total amount to $900. This amount is due upon arrival. The $90 will be paid to the families or given back to the players if we do not make it to the 1st round of playoffs. x Checks from the player need to be made payable to CAA or Cotuit Athletic Association. x Players that do not have a permanent contract will be allowed to pay $90 a week in advance on Saturday or Sunday. Once a permanent contract is given, the balance will need to be paid. x If a player is released or arrives late the Association will make adjustments to the amount of rent to be paid. x Please help us! We sometimes make mistakes with the amount to be collected from a player that arrives late or leaves early. Let us know if the amount does not seem accurate. x If a player has been released from the team for any reason they cannot stay with your family. They must leave within a reasonable amount of time 24-48 hours. x If for any reason they are not able to pay in full for room and board upon arrival, arrangements can be made with the General Manager and Residential Services. x If they do not pay their rent they can be benched or suspended.

Transportation

Some of the players coming this summer will not have a car. It is not the responsibility of the host family to drive the players to the field or their jobs. Other players are strategically placed so that they may pick up your player and take them to their job or field. Only the players that come with a car will be given a $25 stipend to help cover the cost of driving other players to clinic, jobs and the field starting the week of 6/14.

The team travels by bus to all away games. Only a host family or his parents are allowed to take their player home after the game with permission from the Coach.

All players that arrive with their own car are given a weekly stipend to help with the cost of gas.

At your discretion, if a family has an extra car you may allow your player to use the vehicle. But please note that players whose host family allows them to borrow a car are not reimbursed for gas. 6 Jobs

All the jobs but one this summer will be at one of our clinics, Centerville, Cotuit, Advanced or Softball. All players will be required to work this summer for a minimum of 10 days at one of clinics where needed. This will help us have flexibility. It will hopefully help to give a more positive experience for all involved. Please do not schedule to do something on an off day with your player until after 12pm! It is possible that he will need to work that day! In deciding to take a player you must support our policies for working clinics.

Guests and Other Players at Your Home

Your player is not allowed to have another player on the team sleep over under any circumstances without prior permission from Residential Services and the GM.

Set up your boundaries with the players bringing home friends and guests. They should not bring home one of their teammates or friends without prior permission from you. Be sensitive to other families trying to bond with WKHLUSOD\HU&KHFNZLWKWKHRWKHUIDPLO\EHIRUH\RXLQYLWH\RXUSOD\HU¶VWHDPPDWHIRUGLQQHURURXWRQWKH off day.

We request that you only house your player but the decision is yours. The players all talk to one another and it FDQPDNHLWGLIILFXOWIRURWKHUKRVWIDPLOLHVLIWKH\GRQRWKDYHWKHVSDFHLQWKHLUKRPHWRWDNHLQDSOD\HU¶V girlfriend or family. We can provide a list of local B&B and motels.

Meals

It is the responsibility of the family to provide your player with 3 meals a day. You are not required to cook for them but you must have food available for them to heat up or cook themselves.

From experience I have always found it helpful to get a list of foods they like to eat so that I may make them comfortable in my home. Most of the players do not eat cold salads or anything green and if they do they are the minority not the majority!

The association will also try to give the families a night off by providing a meal for the players and family after a game. Please see event schedule for dates.

We encourage you to get together with other families for a barbeque or dinner after a game. All that we ask is not to provide alcohol to the players.

Health Club

Sportsite in Sandwich offers a $25 membership to the Kettleers for the summer and most of the players will take advantage of this great offer. As another option the YMCA will also give the players a reduced membership for $75. If your player is interested in the YMCA please have him contact residential services.

Curfew

The players have a curfew, weeknights Midnight, weekends 1:00am. Please help us enforce this policy for the benefit of the team and your family. If a player is not coming in at or around curfew we need to know about it. It is disrespectful to your family and nothing good happens after midnight. Please partner with us so that all may have a positive experience.

7 The following information on this page may be viewed by some as an unnecessary but because we have had problems in the past it has become necessary to state the obvious for liability purposes.

Alcohol and Substance Abuse

The Cotuit Athletic Association wants to provide a positive experience and a safe family environment for all players this summer. We do not want the players consuming alcohol. Most of the players coming this summer are under age 21. It is illegal in the State of to purchase or consume alcohol under the age of 21. If you allow the consumption of alcohol by any player in your home you are setting yourself up as well as the Association for liability charges in the event of an accident.

The use of legend drugs without a prescription is illegal and forbidden. The use of prescription drugs must be reported to the coach. All players are now subject to random drug testing by the NCAA during their stay here this summer.

The players sign a letter of commitment with the NCAA that they will not use any form of tobacco at practice or during any games. The CAA prohibits the use of any tobacco products within game fields, parks, clinics, or in homes of host families. If a player or coach is seen chewing tobacco by an the league fines the team and the player or coach is suspended.

Please help us enforce our policy. If a family is providing alcohol to players, or permitting consumption of alcohol by players, they will no longer be allowed to house for the Cotuit Kettleers.

Adult Behavior

The Association wants to provide a safe family environment for the player during his stay here this summer. It is against policy to allow any member of your family or guests to participate in the viewing or sharing of pornographic material or participate in any sexual activity with a baseball player living in your home or playing on the team.

Appropriate behavior at our Fields and Community Events

While at our field, at an away game or community event with player participation please be considerate of others. As a House Parent, you and your family are volunteers of the Cotuit Athletic Association and how you behave is a direct reflection on all of us. Please do not use abusive language, yell insults or throw items at the other team or umpires. It is okay to be frustrated but be respectful.

It is against the Law in the State of Massachusetts to consume alcohol at public facilities such as beaches, schools and parks. All Cape Cod Baseball Fields are public parks and the consumption of alcohol is against the law. If you are caught drinking at the field you will not only be asked to leave but it will also be reported to the authorities.

The provides a great opportunity as well as a challenge for the baseball players who arrive each spring. The CAA management and coaches are committed to assisting each player achieve their professional and personal goals. These goals would not be attainable without the dedication and support of our host families.

The Kettleers player and housing handbooks outlines your responsibilities, important information, the expectations of each party within the community, at home and on the field. It is imperative to the success of our organization that both parties understand their roles and responsibilities completely.

As stated in the handbooks, it is illegal in the State of Massachusetts to purchase or consume alcohol under the age of 21. Most of the players participating in the CCBL are between the ages of 18 and 23. Any underage player found to be using alcohol will be immediately suspended from the team and sent home at his own expense.

It is also illegal in the State of Massachusetts for any person to furnish alcoholic beverages to a person under the age of 21. Under the law suppl\LQJJLYLQJ³«SURYLGLQJWRRUDOORZLQJDSHUVRQ\HDUVRIDJHWRSRVVHVV DOFRKRORQWKHLUSUHPLVHVRUSURSHUW\´LVSURKLELWHG3OHDVHEHDGYLVHGWKDWWKLVODZZLOOEHVWULFWO\HQIRUFHGE\ CAA.

Therefore on behalf of my family we agree to follow the rules established in the handbooks set forth by the Cotuit Athletic Association, the rules of the NCAA and the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. If my family fails to follow these rules, I understand the player will be removed from my home and I will no longer be allowed to house for the Cotuit Kettleers and Cape Cod Baseball League.
