With many competing in the same pool for the first time since Team USA topped the medal table with 33 Olympic medals in Rio last summer, 30-plus members of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team are expected to be in action in Indianapolis. Defending individual event Olympic champions expected to compete include Anthony Ervin (Valencia, Calif./SwimMAC Carolina), Lilly King (Evansville, Ind./Indiana University), Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md./Stanford Swimming), Simone Manuel (Sugar Land, Texas/Stanford Swimming) and Ryan Murphy (Jacksonville, Fla./California Aquatics). In total, more than 600 of the nation’s top swimmers – including the likes of fellow Olympic medalists Nathan Adrian (Bremerton, Wash./California Aquatics), Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics), Kathleen Baker (Winston-Salem, N.C./ SwimMAC Carolina) and Elizabeth Beisel (Saunderstown, R.I./Bluefish Swim Club) – are expected to swim in the five-day meet. Complete meet information is available online at usaswimming.org. The competition opens on Tuesday, June 27, and runs through Saturday, July 1. Prelims begin each day of competition at 9 a.m. EDT, followed by finals at 6 p.m. All-session, single-day and single-session tickets are on sale now at usaswimming.org. This meet serves as the qualifier for the U.S. team in the pool competition at the 2017 FINA World Championships, which runs from July 23-30 in Budapest, Hungary. The winner of each Olympic event will claim an automatic spot on the roster, and a complete team selection procedure is outlined at usaswimming.org. Outside of the Olympic Games, the FINA World championships are the sport’s largest international competition. Results at Phillips 66 Nationals also will qualify individuals for the U.S. rosters for the World University Games and FINA World Junior Championships – set for Aug. 23-28 in Indianapolis – later this summer. Twelve hours of television coverage from Phillips 66 Nationals will be aired by NBC Sports Group with nightly broadcasts on NBC Sports Network and Universal HD and four hours of coverage on NBC on July 1-2. A webcast of the meet also will be available on usaswimming.org. The Phillips 66 National Championships are part of the 2017 Team USA Summer Champions Series, presented by Comcast. The Champions Series showcases numerous Olympic sports throughout the season, highlighting the year-round quest of Team USA athletes to compete at the Olympic Games.
