It is hard to believe that another year has passed. There’s something at this time of the year about endings and beginnings. An old year has come to an end with its memories, and a new year will soon begin with its hope. Memories and hope being bound together with prayer and thanksgiving, all in the name of the One who loves us. There are moments in our life when we immerse ourselves in this mystery of the divine love - the love God has for us. When we open ourselves to it, this love brings healing of the past and trust for the future. It opens for us the possibility of forgiveness, God’s forgiveness for us, our forgiveness for others and also for ourselves. For me, advent is one of those times when, like Mary, I ponder the mystery of the divine love, the intervention of the creator in the history of man, the awesome fact that God loves me and extends that forgiveness, healing and hope to me. How Amazing is the Grace of God? In our little advent fellowship evenings, we have been looking at “making room”. Making room for the stranger, making room for what really matters, making room for God. I would invite you all to ponder these things in your heart. As you look forward into the new year, what really matters to you? As the old show “What’s my line” used to ask, is it animal, vegetable or mineral? How attached are you to things or people? Do you spend time getting to know God; do you make room for Him? When you talk about hope for the future, what does this hope look like? Is there a place in it for God? Do you think, what can God do for me, or do you think, what can I do for God? Are your New Year’s resolutions self-centred or God-centred? In 2 Corinthians 5 vs 17, we read , “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” The most important change we ever make in our lives is when we invite Christ into our lives, and the most important step we can take for the future is to walk with Him all the days of our life. Thank you for your many kindness’s and support over the past year, and again I wish you all a happy and blessed 2016. May the Lord bless you and keep you, May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you And give you Peace. With love in Christ, Carol Evening Services in January and February A reminder that, as indicated in last month’s magazine, we have permission from the Bishop to change our pattern of evening services from January 2016. That means there will be a service of Evening Prayer at 6.30pm on 3rd January as the first Sunday, but also, as this month has five Sundays, we will also have a Songs of Praise service at 6.30pm on 31st January. There will also be a service of Evening Prayer on February 7th, making three evening services through January and February. Fellowship Group Due to the holiday season, we will not meet for a Fellowship Group on the first Thursday in January. Therefore, our next meeting will be on the first Thursday in February (which is the 4th) on the theme of preparing for Lent. Clergy Holidays The Curate’s Sunday off after Christmas will be 3rd January and she will be off from 2nd -9th January inclusive. 4 Some ‘Thank Yous’ In the very busy lead up to Christmas, our parishioners continue to respond with great generosity to a variety of needs. We had a greater than ever array of gifts for the Family Appeal to deliver to Mossley Mill after our Toy Service on 13th December . They were particularly well received, as the Appeal had not had so much publicity this year and the response had been slow. Many thanks to all who contributed. Thanks also to all who are continuing to bring gifts for the food bank, run by Carnmoney Presbyterian Church. We have now maintained such giving over two years, and many local families continue to benefit. But there are also so many who work hard behind the scenes to make Christmas such a very special experience at Carnmoney Parish Church. We appreciate those who decorate the church so beautifully each year, as well as the organisation that goes into our wonderful worship services, particularly the family nativity service and the carols by candlelight that we all enjoy so much. Our thanks are due to all who put such time and effort into all our Christmas celebrations and activities. Revision of Register of Vestry Members. The Register of Vestry Members has to be revised annually during the month of February. This will be done before the Select Vestry meeting on Tuesday 2nd February and a notice to that effect will be placed on the door of the church for the Sundays preceding the review. The previous Register of Vestry Members will be available for inspection throughout January. If you are new to the parish in the last year and wish to be included on the Register, or have moved since the last revision of the Register, please obtain the appropriate registration form from the Church Wardens. The Register of Vestry Members is the list of those entitled to vote at the Annual Easter Vestry and is open to all subscribing members of the parish over the age of 18. The names of those who have passed away in the preceding year and those who have ceased subscribing to the parish for at least a year will also be removed during the revision of the Register. Prayers at Noon A reminder that we have suspended our Noon Day Prayers through the winter months and will review the situation in the spring. Select Vestry Please note that, as agreed by the Vestry previously, there will be NO Select Vestry meeting in January. Any urgent business will be dealt with, if required, by a short meeting after church.     The Boys’ Brigade East Antrim Battalion Executive Meeting Held on Monday 15th February 2016 at 8.00p.m. in Ballylinney Church Halls. (1st Ballylinney) Present: - Mr Drew Buchanan MBE, Reverend Alan McCann, Mr David Hoy, Mrs Margaret McAdoo Mrs Clare Hull and Mr Alan Miles. Apologies: - Dr John Cathcart, Mrs Lorraine Bell, Mr Colin Bell, Mr Andrew Wilson and Mr Philip Ross. Opening & Devotions: - Battalion President opened the meeting and welcomed everyone to Ballylinney. The opening Devotions were conducted by Reverend Alan McCann, Battalion Chaplain who read from Psalms Chapter 40 Verses 8-10. Minutes: - The minutes of the previous meeting of 2nd September 2015 had been circulated prior to the meeting via e-mail. These were agreed and proposed as accurate by Mrs Margaret McAdoo and seconded by Mr David Hoy. CONCERT Mr Drew Buchanan informed the Executive that to date 170 tickets had been sold for the forthcoming concert on Saturday 27th February 2016, involving Ballyclare Male Voice Choir and Major Sinclair Pipe Band. It was hoped that this would reach the 200 mark. It was agreed that the Executive would provide the supper, which would be sold on the evening. The Secretary is to send out an email requesting each Executive Member supply a minimum of four dozen tray bakes. EVERY DOOR CHALLENGE Mr Drew Buchanan gave an update on this venture, which was to visit every B.B. Company in Northern Ireland and have representatives from that Company meet the visitors, have a photograph taken and then hand over a cheque to the visitors. I send greetings in the name of the executive wishing all companies God’s blessing on whatever your plans are this session. At the start of our Golden Jubilee celebrations it’s only natural that we look back and give thanks for the work of those 50 years. To officers and boys, many who are now officers, we thank you for your contribution to the work of the Battalion in advancing Christ’s Kingdom among boys. 50 years ago in Northern Ireland the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association was founded. Myrina is launched from the Musgrave Yard slipway at Harland and Wolff, the first super tanker and largest ship built in the United Kingdom. Taoiseach Jack Lynch and Prime Minister of Northern Ireland Terence O’Neill meet for talks at Stormont. So as we look forward to celebrating 50 years, we are thankful to Donald Blair, who has been in Greenisland Boys’ Brigade for over 50 years, for agreeing to record the history of the Battalion in words and pictures. We will celebrate further with dinner on Thursday 27th April 2017 and we will hold our tri-annual AGM that night and we look forward to new talent coming through to fill the posts.

A programme of events including a Civic Reception at City Hall to mark the 125th Anniversary of The Boys Brigade in Ireland, the Annual General Meeting of The Boys' Brigade and a Sunday morning service is being organised. As this is the AGM of the Brigade I trust East Antrim Battalion will be well represented. I will be there so if you wish to record a vote you can do so via proxy. The Battalion has continued to function with less meetings but hopefully still communicating with officers via the website, quarterly newsletters and facebook. If you don’t receive this information like us on facebook and register your e-mail on the website. Please remember we still hold two meeting per session and you can find the dates below. The website continues to be our main communication tool and we have had over 1,000,000 hits in last year and averaging 2000 visitors a month. Please make sure you keep up to date by visiting the site regularly and if you are involved with competitions or events please email a report to [email protected] so that the site is kept up to date. In April we held a very successful quiz evening in Ballynure and that event replaced our AGM.

The Register is available for use by the public in the Commission’s office. Under the legislation, public authorities as specified by the Office of the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister are automatically treated as registered with the Commission. All other employers have a duty to register if they have more than 10 employees working 16 hours or more per week. Employers who meet the conditions for registration are given one month in which to apply for registration. This month begins from the end of the week in which the concern employed more than 10 employees in Northern Ireland. It is a criminal offence for such an employer not to apply for registration within this period. Persons who become employers in relation to a registered concern are also under a legal duty to apply to have their name and address entered on the Register within one month of becoming such an employer.
