The Dreaming - A themed adventure for D&D 5e andodm.tech From the house atop Thrushcross Grange comes a otherworldly terrifying howling. The good people of the Reedswood Valley are restless and exhausted, haunted each and Encounters every night as they see the ghostly face of a crying woman each and every night.

Running out of options, an adventuring party has been hired and sent to put a stop to Levels 2/3 this horrendous noise and return peace and quiet to the valley. - 3x Ice Mephits - 4x Wolves The Dreaming is a short story detailing the traumatic life of popular musician "Catherine Babooshka - Doppleganger Bramble" and her husband Deniel Appel. Each step of this adventure references a Kate Running Up That Hill - 3x Satyrs Bush classic, twisted to make poor Cathy's story just that little bit sadder. Wuthering Heights - Specter w/ 35HP

Things you need to know are: This is designed for 4 or 5 PCs between levels 2-5 (encounter list to the right). Levels 4/5 The whole "Kate Bush" theme is a loosely kept secret, don’t reveal it but reward any Cloudbusting - Air Elemental player who figures it out. Give Inspiration or allow them to succeed that section. Hounds of Love - Hell Hound + 2x Wolves Don’t sweat the transitions too much - the vibe is “ghost of christmas past, sequence Babooshka - Succubus of visions”. The focus is on Catherine's sob story, not the environment. Running Up That Hill - 2x Spined Devils I’m detail-light. Make stuff up and reward creativity. Be goofy and have fun. Wuthering Heights - Banshee

The party arrives in the grand old house of Thrushcross Grange, which has clearly fallen into disrepair. Have fun describing the stately home, go for an empty/spooky vibe. it's clearly haunted. They find many paintings throughout the halls that show: Catherine and Deniel in their prime Their children Bernert and Raven. Raven looks like one of the PCs. Catherine alone as an old woman in a black cowl. She's very sad. When the party finds Catherine’s bedchamber, they find her howling and sobbing as a banshee. She’s going to misrecognise one PC as “Raven” before touching them and sharing a series of visions with the party. If this takes more than 20 minutes, bring Cathy to them. She can be roaming the halls or the gardens, shriek and induce visions in the party.

Vision #1 - Cloudbusting - Combat - I just know that something good to going to happen In the prime of her life, teenage Cathy meets a dashing young Deniel for the first time at some fancy high-society party. They’re outside, about to have a romantic moment when the dark clouds above finally break unleashing ice monsters to fall below. Set the scene, make it lovey-dovey then roll Initiative. Deniel fights like a Veteran and defends Cathy, who finds this incredibly heroic and exciting.

Vision #2 - Hounds of Love - Social - I'll be two steps on the water Few months later, Cathy is sat on the side of a lake with her shoes off and talks to the party on approach. She’ll reveal that she’s due to travel across the water and meet Deniel but is too nervous to take the plunge (physically and emotionally). The party can persuade, coax, intimidate or bully her into going - run her like a silly teenage girl who takes her diary too seriously. If talking breaks down, combat is a back-up option - the hounds of love will turn up and chase her into the lake. If someone throws her shoes in the lake, Cathy will go and get them, realise she’s already wet and just keep going.

Vision #3 - Babooshka - Stealth - She couldn’t have made a worse move A middle-aged Cathy will run up to “Raven” distraught and begging for help, stating she’s been “so stupid and ruined everything”. Believing Deniel had lost interest in their relationship, Cathy has hired an Assassin to seduce and “test” him. Deniel & the Assassin are going out for dinner in one hour and she believes his life is in danger. They can take a short rest or they can "set the table". This is an excuse to sabotage a dinner date. They can ruin the food/drink, interfere with the couple’s dancing or whatever else the party think of. Any outright hostile action will cause the Assassin to attack Deniel and the party - Deniel isn't prepared, he's old, taken by surprise and fights like a Noble. It’s okay for Deniel to die - you can ham it up later.

Vision #4 - Running Up That Hill - Combat - If I only could, I’d make a deal with God Deniel has either died or left Cathy following the events of Babooshka. Overcome with guilt, Cathy makes a bargain with “something” to allow her to see him/swap places with him. To seal this pact, she needs to complete an impossible task - run down a road, up a hill and up the side of a building - naturally she asks "Raven" for help. In response, her devil patron has sent his subordinates to hinder her but the party can hold them off. The road/hill are 80ft long and the building is 40ft tall. Cathy has 40ft run/20ft climb speed, so it’ll take her four turns to reach the top. Cathy is not invulnerable, she has an AC of 12 and will faint if she takes six hits. If she is healed, that "undoes" one hit. The enemies will focus Cathy, so the party must heal/protect/help her make the climb. It's okay for Cathy to fail - you can ham it up later.

Vision #5 - Wuthering Heights - Social - Let me grab your soul away Back to reality. Cathy the spirit is crying, fresh from her failures/swapping places with Deniel/Deniel leaving again anyway. Revisiting this has filled her with rage and the wailing gets louder and louder. Her eyes are bloodshot red and she's about to hit meltdown. The party have some options - “Raven” can try to talk sense into Cathy. Illusions to look like Deniel could give closure. Creative roleplaying could always work. Failing that, Cathy lets out a horrendous wail and attacks the party. Go all out here, Cathy is full of vengeance and out for blood. Once Cathy’s spirit has been soothed, she is free to pass to the afterlife and the noise finally stops.
