“Out on the Wiley, windy moors we’d roll and fall in green.” Kate Bush has never been a conventional artist, but that has always been her trademark and the reason why her fans adore her. It is unsurprising then that she has created a buzz in the music world once again by announcing that she is to go on tour for only the second time in her career.

Kate Bush has had a phenomenal amount of success during her 35-year career with hits such as ‘Babooshka’ and ‘Running Up that Hill’. She has also received a Brit award and an Ivor Novello, as well as three Grammy nominations. Last year she was awarded a CBE by the Queen.

Bush’s original tour was back in 1979 at the very start of her career, following her very successful debut album , which featured Bush’s most famous song ‘Wuthering Heights’. But after those six weeks she never toured again, and was very rarely seen performing live, finding her own performance on Top of the Pops embarrassing. She even turned down an opportunity to perform at the 2012 Olympic closing ceremony.

So why has it taken Bush nearly 40 years to consider going on tour again? Bush’s The Tour of Life was seen as real spectacle by those who attended; full of wondrous special effects and fabulous costume changes (17 in total!). But the spectacle took its toll on Bush who was just 21 at the time. Bush has stated various reasons from exhaustion to wishing to concentrate on her family life, as well as nightmares of http://nouse.co.uk/2014/03/21/running-up-that-hill-again Archived 11 Dec 2018 07:49:03 Nouse Web Archives Kate Bush: Running up that hill again? The announcement is still a shock to her fans who have met the news with excitement managing to crash her website in hours.

So what do we know about Kate’s new tour entitled Before the Dawn? She will be playing 20 dates in August and September this year in the 5000-seat Hammersmith Apollo, London; a small venue but one close to Kate’s heart as it was the venue where she finished her original tour. It’s expected to be as theatrical and dramatic like her original tour, although Bush admits that she is unlikely to be dancing. As for her set list? Well speculation has already started on which of her massive discography Kate is likely to play, with many sources noting that with such a big backlog of songs that have never been performed live she is really spoilt for choice.

It goes without saying that tickets will sell out extremely quickly when they go on sale on March 28, leaving few to doubt the enduring popularity of Ms Bush and her distinctive melodies.
