THORAK REGIONAL CEMETERY Headstone & Plaque Size Allocations

Memorial Installations

Prior to the installation of a memorial, a Memorial Permit is required and application forms are available from the Thorak Regional Cemetery, Litchfield Council, local stonemasons and Funeral Directors. A Memorial Permit fee applies.

Memorial Permit Applications must include the following information: . Grave Location . Deceased person’s name . Size of the memorial . Who will be installing the memorial (Memorials are required to be installed by a qualified contractor or Cemetery staff – fees apply)

Arrangements must be made with the Thorak Regional Cemetery Manager prior to delivery and placement of memorials.

Section A (including Muslim and Bahai Section)

This area consists of lawn covered graves with plaque or pillow style markers on a concrete base set into a well maintained lawn area. Headstones are not permitted in Section A including Muslim and Bahai Sections

Plaques only permitted and must not exceed 590mm length x 420mm wide: 590mm Length Granite Plaques must be a minimum of 30mm thick Slanting Plaques are to be a maximum of 150mm high at the highest point 420mm Plaques must be laid flat on a concrete base. wide

Section B / Garden of Angels B Section

This section allows for the installation of individual memorials of limited size. A concrete head beam is provided.

Section C / D / and Orthodox

Structures in excess of 1.5m in height require structural engineering prior to approval No memorial head beam is provided as differing size headstones require differing foundations and engineering requirements.

All headstones and monuments over 700mm High must be installed by a qualified Stonemason and must meet the minimum requirements in accordance with the Australian Standards for Headstone and Cemetery Monuments.

Gardens of Angels – A Section (children up to the age of 10 years)

Headstones are not permitted within the A Section of this area. Engraved granite or bronze plaques are permitted and must be laid flat. Vertical memorials, small statues of angels, birds, animals, teddy bears or toys are permitted to be firmly fixed to the stone, however must not exceed 750mm in height.

Bronze plaques or granite memorials must not exceed: 760 mm wide x 440 mm high x 18 mm thick.

Memorial Garden / Palm Garden / Niche Walls 1 & 2 / Courtyard of Tranquillity Rows 1 & 6

Headstones are not permitted within the Memorial, Palm Garden and Niche Wall areas. 150mm length Engraved bronze or stainless steel plaques are permitted. Raised or slanted plaques are not permitted. Cemetery Staff are responsible for applying all plaques in this section. 120mm Plaques must not exceed: 150 mm length x 120 mm wide. wide

Memorial Beam Section B & Courtyard of Tranquillity Rows 2,3,4 & 5 This section allows for the installation of individual headstones of a limited size or engraved bronze or stainless steel plaques. Cemetery staff are responsible for applying all plaques in this section. A concrete head beam is provided.

Headstone maximum size permitted: 300 mm high 300 mm wide 300 mm deep
