The opening time of each checkpoint will be two hours in advance of the first expected walker. 2. Checkpoint Coordinators are expected to arrive at checkpoint one hour before the opening time, i.e., three hours ahead of the first expected walker. 3. Checkpoints will be closed according to the checkpoint closing time. Walkers who arrive after closure of checkpoints will be advised to drop out. Checkpoint Coordinators and 1 Safety Team will station and stand-by at the checkpoint until final walker(s) and Sweep Team pass the end of demarcation of preceding checkpoint. Once the Sweep Team arrive the point, they will notify the Command Centre and instruction will be given to the Checkpoint Coordinators to leave the Checkpoint. 4. After passing distance post M174 and leaving CP9, the route leaves the MacLehose Trail and travels 5 km along a country trail to the north coast of Tai Lam Chung Reservoir. The trail then turns right along a paved road towards Wong Nai Tun/Tai Tong and heads towards the Finish Point at Tai Tong Barbecue Area in Yuen Long, the marker posts of OTW175 – OTW195 will be set up by the Organiser for identification. It aims at comparing the reception reliability of two modes of frame header PN420 and PN945 at tidal fading areas in Hong Kong. In finite bandwidth of a current TV channel (8 MHz), use of PN420 instead of PN945 is a fastest method1 to contribute more bit-rate without involving extra transmission and reception facilities.

Ltd June 2003 1 The Historical Heritage of Ho Chung, Pak Kong, and Sha Kok Mei, Sai Kung The Early History of the Sai Kung Area In the Nanhan (907-971), Sung (972-1279 in the Hong Kong area), and Yuan (1280- 1367) periods, the Hong Kong area fell into the then County of Tung Kuan (東莞). Probably in the Nanhan period, the coastal areas of this County were divided into eight sub-districts, or To (都: see Map 1). The coast-lines of these eight To were controlled by two Imperial Monopolies: seven of them by the Imperial Salt Monopoly, and one by the Imperial Pearl Monopoly. The area of coast controlled by the Imperial Pearl Monopoly comprised approximately the coasts of today's Sai Kung, Sha Tin, Tai Po and North Districts, from Lei Yue Mun Point (鯉魚門) a little east of Kowloon City, to Mui Sha Tsim Point (梅沙尖), just east of Sha Tau Kok. The Imperial Pearl Monopoly had a major pearl-fishing centre and garrison at Tai Po, at least from Nanhan times. The area was, in these years, the second most prolific pearl-fishing ground (after the pearl-fishing area off Hainan) in China, and produced a significant percentage of the pearls used in the production of Court robes and vessels. Protection of the Pearl Monopoly's interests required that casual access to the pearl- fishing areas be heavily restricted. Theft of pearls by the pearl-fishers, their illicit sale to commoners, and their smuggling out of the pearl-fishing area were always serious risks, given the high value and tiny size of the pearls.
