The present novel takes tip the story of Mitchell Gant and the MiG-31 at precisely the point where its predecessor left them. One of the principal characters of the earlier novel was Yuri Andropov, then Chairman of the Soviet intelligence service and secret police, the KGB. Events have overtaken me, since that gentleman is now, following the demise of Leonid Brezhnev, the leader of the Soviet Union. For the sake of continuity, I have had to keep him in his former job. However, I shall always think of him, in company, no doubt, with millions of Soviet citizens, as the head of the most powerful and repressive secret police force the modern world has ever experienced. PART I The Pilot. I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice .

Craig Thomas, who has died from pneumonia aged 68, was at the forefront of the spy/adventure genre known as the techno-thriller, novels in which technology – usually cutting-edge military hardware extrapolated from current technological advances – is central to the plot. Thomas's 1977 novel Firefox featured the fictional MiG-31, an aircraft so advanced that it would immediately give the Russians the upper hand. At the time, the Russians had the MiG-25 Foxbat, the fastest reconnaissance bomber and interceptor in the air, with a top speed of Mach 2.8. Thomas's Firefox could achieve speeds of Mach 5, had stealth technology which made it invisible to radar and a guided missile system controlled by the pilot by thought alone.

Some great builds and works in progress by our members can be seen in members models, Stay Safe, Hang in there and .............. Keep on Building From the Front Office… Howdy, all! The April Zoom meeting will be held on 21 April: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81633790135?pwd=S1UwTVlaaU9tejEzZmNOZElza2FSdz09 Mike Roof will present a demonstration on rigging for us this month. Speaking with the library, they still have not opened up meeting rooms or re-started programs. I will continue to keep checking in with them from month to month to see when we might actually begin to meet in person again. I will also ask them if we might be able to hold a “tailgate meeting” in the front corner of their parking lot—as long as we do not cause traffic issues, I think it might be an alternative to the meeting room. I will let you know how that goes. Granted, with the famously hot Columbia summers getting big in the window, we won’t be able to do this every month, but it is a possibility. **** **** **** **** **** **** As far as the June show goes, everything is still progressing towards that date.
